Tom Brennan - WHITHER GOEST JOE GIRARDI?

Tom Brennan - WHITHER GOEST JOE GIRARDI?

ANSWER: Probably where the money is. But maybe not.

He is a devout Christian and devoted family man, with deep roots in NY (I believe he lives in Purchase NY).

Maybe he'd want to stay close to home for family life stability, after so many years in the NY Metro area and...

Coach for the New York Metropolitans?

Probably quite far-fetched, because of the money, but he's already made a ton of it, and the Mets could use a fine catching coach, don't you think?  Bench coach, too.  And maybe, with his intimate knowledge of the Yankees, he could somehow help the Mets beat them too.

Doubt this job switch scenario, since it would be a career step back, but if he were interested in coaching, rather than managing elsewhere or going heavily into broadcasting, would you, the extremely knowledgeable, bouncing-off-walls Mets fanatic, be interested?

I never understand why these guys throw themselves right back into the fire.

Take a year off and let the market come to them.

God knows they can afford it.

He would be a great get but I don't see it happening.

Pass. The last thing a rookie mgr needs is a coach with long-term managing experience likely thirsting for his job.

We've got a catching coach who seems to have done good work with Travis and KP. What we need in a Bench Coach is someone who knows the NL. And preferably is familiar with the Mets players.

Enough with picking up leftovers from the Yankees scrap heap!

As a younger man, I heard the following advice, and always tried to keep it: "Always get the best and you'll never regret it". Girardi as a mentor for Calloway would be a home run. Get Tony Pena also, and it's a grand slam.

Gerardi is the anti-Collins in that he never allows excuses, holds players accountable, gives young players opportunity and brings them along, he uses relievers well without overusing them, and he always demands smart play.

The Mets brass should not worry about Glenn Sherlock as the catching coach. He didn't impress me at third or with the catchers. In 2016, the Mets did not have a catching coach! Hard to not improve on nothing! If the Mets add these two gentlemen as coaches, it will improve the team more than any free agent they can get.

Bill, with all due respect, I agree with Gus here.
