At first, the 2020 year for all professional sports looked
bleak. There was talk before that all sports would be cancelled for the rest of
their season. The concern was a scenario in which players and those connected
to the sport would be placed at risk.
If it was up to some
members of the media or fans their thinking was perhaps MLB should take the
whole summer off over the risk of someone catching the virus. Some felt that the
optimism for the baseball season to begin was running out and the sports world
would be able to manage the shutdown from the virus.
They knew there were
going to be many hurdles that baseball would have to jump over just to start
the season. They felt that the nation
would have to be taken care of and protected before they decide to play any
sport which is the utmost importance. Many people played it safe by spending much
time in their residence basically in quarantine.
There are looking at early July for the MLB season to begin
and once they do start, there is also the chance that a problem can occur if a
player tested positive on his team during the season while it was going on. MLB
sent the players union a 67-page document on health and safety protocols.
In other news, former Met and Yankee Bartolo Colon wants to
pitch for the Mets again. He likes pitching in NY and he thinks the Met fans
are the best. He felt that Mets team from
2014-16 was something special. He appreciated how his former teammates and the
whole franchise treated him. He turns 47 next week and his goal is to pitch one
more season, however Colon thinks it’s all about the pitchers coming up. He
feels that when you get older, teams no longer need your services.
If it was up to Colon he would like to retire with the Mets.
He last pitched in the majors with the Texas Rangers in 2018. If the Mets aren’t
interested, Colon wouldn’t be demanding, because he would welcome the opportunity
to play anywhere. Since Noah won’t pitch in 2020 perhaps the Mets should
consider signing him, however it remains to be seen if Brodie is willing to
give him a tryout. Since Colon didn’t land a big-league contract in 2019, he
knows it will be long shot.

Tony, Loved Bartolo's quote about the batting helmet: "And Mets fans are the best. In the beginning, when they laughed at me every time my helmet fell off, at first I felt uncomfortable. But when I saw how much the fans enjoyed it, I asked for a bigger batting helmet so that it would fall more because it was so much fun for them!"
Not having a minor league team will make it tougher for them to bring him back. He could have been in AAA getting reps and then brought up for a double header or emergency start. Maybe they can sign a one day contract with him, have him make one appearance and then retire. The fans would love it, Bartolo would love it, the TV executives would love it.
Yes, because pleasing the bottom line is more important than winning games, right? :)
I very seldom look back, especially when it comes to past Mets.
I thank Bartolo for his accomplishments as a Met but baseball is for the young.
I vote to move on.
Bartolommeo will bring the fan to their feet...except for no fans. Bart knows how to win...some kids don’t...but Spahn was 4-14 as a Met in sayonara time as I recall.
I could count on 4 hands the amount of failed oldies this team brought back from the dead.
Mack, but how many back from the dead remained in a persistent Met-etative state? Bart defied the odds beautifully.
Colon's quote about the helmet was funny, I remember that real well
Colon hung in there as he got older and he knew how to compete
