The Mets receive LHP Joey Lucchesi.
Endy Rodriguez Stats:
Endy Rodriguez, Catcher, Bats Both, Throws Right, DOB 5/26/2000, Signed by the New York Mets as an International free agent on July 2, 2018.
A switch hitting catcher with a .921 OPS while splitting time between the DSL 1 league and the Gulf Coast Mets. In total in 2019, 31 games, 2 HR, 14 RBI, .294 BA/.411 OBP/.510 SLG He played 15 games behind the plate, 9 in the outfield, 1 at 1st Base, the rest DH.
He caught 5 would be base stealers out of 16 attempts for a 31% average.
Mack had him as his #19 Prospect. He could get moved to another position in the future but the ability to catch and switch hit should help him advance.

Lucchesi did not have a good 2020, but fanned slightly more than a man per inning, and had an ERA more than .30 runs per 9 IP in 2018 and 2019. My guess is the Mets see him as their # 5 starter or their 6th starter.
Tom,
I think this trade is giving up lower level catching depth for MLB starting depth. This front office has been emphasizing K's in the pitchers they have acquired like Sam McWilliams and Trevor May. Now, as you pointed out, Lucchesi as well.
John, true. I would not be surprised if Lucchesi is our # 5 starter in 2021. At least until Thor returns.
Also, he is 2-10 lifetime against LAD and Arizona, 16-10 vs. everyone else. Dodgers are tough, obviously. He has pitched well vs. Rockies too. I can’t recall having seen him pitch but he isn’t Corey Oswald.
These are the types of trades I wanted Anderson to make the first time around. Small trades, giving up something small for something small that you need. The Mets needed to replace Kevin Smith as a MLB ready lefty and also get a lefty that makes Matz expendable.
Gus - At least they are making this move to prepare in advance and not, as they seemed to do over the last two years, when they were suddenly short handed.
