Mack - 2022 MLB Draft Scouting Report - RHP - Brock Porter

Brock Porter

Mack's spin -

As you can read below, Porter has all the tools to make him into a future star in this game.

Prep stat line so far -

52 games, 52 2/3 innings pitched, 81 strikeouts, 0.91 WHIP

I am told his Clemson commit is quite strong, but let's see what happens the day after his name is called out and the team that picked him comes a running...

I have him as my 6th RHP.

Brock Porter

I’m not sure I’ve seen a Brock Porter performance over the last 8 months that hasn’t been loud, and that didn’t change at PG National. Porter was the starter of a 9am game and came out sitting 95-96, topping out with 97.5 with a ton of ride. Showcased his present big league changeup that’s likely a 60 grade pitch at 77-79 with parachute type fade. Getting a near 20 mph velo difference from his fastball makes it play up even more. The Orchard Lake St. Mary’s product has shown a slider and curveball in the past but only flashed the quality 11/5 curveball in this outing. Porter shows some of the highest pitchability in the class and continues to make huge strides in overall command. Clemson commit has a real chance to be one of the best RHP in the class.

9. Washington Nationals: Brock Porter, RHP, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Mich.) HS

Porter dominated opposing hitters this spring to move him in the conversation as one of the top prep arms in the 2022 MLB draft. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound righty throws a mid-90s fastball that has touched 99 mph and features movement. His slider and curveball are quality-breaking pitches. He also shows a tremendous feel for his above-average changeup.

9. Brock Porter

Right-Handed Pitcher, Orchard Lake St. Marys

Porter is a cold-weather arm that brings plenty of heat to the table. The fastball has been clocked as high as 99 MPH, casually sitting 93-95 with plenty of riding life. All this as 17 years old. His best secondary is a changeup that's at least plus, though some evalutors already believe it projects plus-plus. He throws the cambio with serious conviction and parachute-like action in the upper-70’s; enormous separation from his heater. Metrically, it’s a strong offering showcasing optimal spin rates in the 1400 RPM range. He’s got an inconsistent, high-spin slider that can be truly wicked at its best, generally in the low-80s. He’s also got a curveball in the mid-70’s to round out a full arsenal. It’s a strong, athletic 6-foot-3 build with broad shoulders and and long levers. Three-quarters delivery with explosive arm speed. Porter continues to show improved command and control as the body matures. If Porter's command can keep up with his huge arsenal, he has a chance to headline the class. Porter’s college commitment belongs to Clemson.

Brock Porter, RHP, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s HS (MI)

I gotta show some love for my fellow Michigander, who also happens to be one of, if not thee, top high school pitcher coming into the 2022 draft at the moment. Porter’s fastball has been clocked at 99 mph, but usually rides in the mid-90s for most of the game. He’s got a plus-change up to go along with a decent curve. His slider needs some work, though. If he can keep his command in check and perfect his breaking stuff, he’ll headlining all pitchers in this class.

5-13-21 - PG

Brock Porter (Mich.)

6-4/205, R/R

Commitment: Clemson

PG Events: 22

Key Stats: 52 games, 52 2/3 innings pitched, 81 strikeouts, 0.91 WHIP

Short Story: Like Lesko, the fastball/changeup combination gives Porter two above average pitches that flash plus. His physical frame and clean arm make it easy to see him log high-level innings for a long time. For the power stuff, the Michigan native can pitch. Moving his fastball around and having zero fear to go to the off-speed when needed.

Big Moment: Undoubtably his 8 a.m. start at the 2020 WWBA World Championship. He reached 95 mph with the fastball and easily held low-90s over his five innings pitched. The breaking ball continued to gain MPHs and the Bugs Bunny changeup turned heads for all in attendance.

Bold Prediction: Given the reports of the velocity spike this spring, Porter comes into the summer with huge excitement. It will be fun to watch as he has proven, and nothing should change, that he holds premium stuff late in games. Allowing scouts to say, “sometimes scouting is easy.”

19. Brock Porter - RHP

Bio:

Height: 6-3

Weight: 190 lbs

Hits/Throws: R-R

Hometown: Milford, Michigan

School: Orchard Lake St. Mary's (MI)

Porter is a very projectable pitcher that hails from the same school as Schubart. Slender frame at 6'3", 190 pounds, he's got an explosive fastball that has sat 90-93 MPH this summer and touched 95 MPH at WWBA with spin rates reaching 2,500 RPM. Pairs it with an advanced change-up in the mid-70's that has great arm-side life and sink to it. There's two breaking balls that have added some power to them, as well.

11-27-20 - PG -

Porter pairs with outfielder Nolan Schubart at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Mich.) to form the 2022 class’s top teammate duo.  The right-hander has made big strides this summer and fall to make his pitching mechanics more consistent and better command his 91-95 mph fastball and mid-70s curveball.
