Mack - Draft Thoughts: Jud Fabian, Indiana Hoosiers, Will Frisch, Druw Jones, Tucker Toman

Where do you rank Jud Fabian currently on your board? 

                    Joe Doyle - 

As things currently stand, I’ve got a late first round grade on him, but much of that is projecting some of the swing-and-miss concerns dissipating in 2022. He was better toward the latter half of 2021, and he’ll need to carry that over into 2022 if he hopes to reach his draft ceiling. We’re still talking about a centerfielder with plus raw power and at least above average speed. If Fabian can display the power he showed in 2021 while getting that K-rate under, say, 22 percent, he’ll be in a lot better position come July 2022. He’ll still only be 21 years old for this years draft.

After reading this, and others that have him in around the same place, I keep Fabian as my #3  outfielder behind Elijah Greene and Drue Jones.

 

Indiana Hoosiers

 Moving down in the standings, the Hoosiers were another team that managed to sweep the Nittany Lions last season.

 In Bloomington, Indiana, the Hoosiers were able to win all four games and won by five runs in two of them. The Hoosiers finished tied for fourth place in the Big Ten last season with a 26-18 record.

 Despite losing two of its best hitters in Grant Richardson and Cole Barr to the MLB Draft, Indiana has a good amount of young players ready to fill their shoes.

 Sophomores Paul Toetz and Morgan Colopy both finished within the top five in batting average for the Hoosiers, as they both hit over .270 as freshmen. Senior Drew Ashley finished fifth on that list last season, giving the Hoosiers a better-than-average starting lineup.

 The rotation may be one of the bigger weaknesses with three Hoosier starters being selected in the MLB Draft, but with most of the bullpen and offense still around, the Hooisers could improve on their six-game winning streak against the Nittany Lions that dates back to 2019.

  

8-16-21 - Prospects Live - Pacific Northwest Prospects -

 WILL FRISCH

 RHP          Oregon State 

Frisch comes packed into a big, strong frame with strong shoulders and some barrel chest. He’s been up to 95 in Corvallis with a breaking ball that flashes plus from time to time. He'll be reasonably young in the 2022 class. He was fairly dominant in his first crack at college innings in 2020 and 2021. His 2.38 ERA over 51 innings last season was pretty impressive. Scouts want to see more swing-and-miss from the opposition, as well as the limitation of free passes. If he takes the next step forward in both of those categories in 2022, Frisch is the type of college performer and ultra-competitor who could pitch his way up into the first few rounds of the draft, similar to Andrew Moore in 2015 for the Beavers.

8-12-21 - Talking Chop - Georgia Prospects -

 Druw Jones, OF, Wesleyan HS -

 Yes he is the son of Braves legend Andruw Jones. Druw Jones is a potential five tool talent with power, speed, defense, and an arm. There are some questions about his ability to hit, though he has made some changes to his swing and seems to be progressing this summer. Druw is an exciting player to watch, though his stock will very much be determined by how well the hit tool plays over the course of the next year.

 8-5-21 - Prospects Live 

 Tucker Toman 3B

 Tucker Toman showed up to St. Pete as one of the top 3B prospects in the prep class and walked away from the week maintaining that. A switch hitter with big time bat speed and real potential from both sides of the plate, Toman showed an all fields approach in BP with easy pull side juice. In-game, the LSU commit kept the same approach with a loud base hit up the middle and ripping a double deep into the RF corner. Toman put together a really easy infield round with accuracy and carry on his above average arm strength across the diamond. It’s easy to project above average power and glove at 3B as he develops.
