DOMINIC HAMEL PITCHED WELL IN AAA
Mets led 11-0 last night until Danny Young gives up a 3 run Jack to Philly with 2 outs bottom 9 to make it an 11-3 final.
Three 3 run homers by Alvarez, Nimmo, and Darth Bader. Nice.
But Lindor after 2 hits came out of the game with a sore back. Hopefully he is ready today.
However, raising Lindor health concerns, Luisangel Acuna was just called up. The 22 year old got off to a cold start in cold Syracuse, going 22 for 98 through April. He has since hit .265, with a slightly over .300 OBP. Not much power, but 40 steals and a strong glove. 587 PAs.
We wish LA Acuna well. Welcome to a heated pennant race.
The last starting infielder besides Lindor that was pulled due to injury was Jeff McNeil, who won’t rejoin the team until at least the second round of the playoffs. Hopefully, Lindor’s injury will last hours, not weeks.
Quintana brilliant, climbs to .500. ERA drops to 3.91.

Hopefully, the Dodgers today start a guy with more of a "knack" for pitching.
Despite starting Gavin Crochet, the White Sox lost 2-0 to fall to 33-115.
To not lose 120, they'd have to go 10-4. To not lose 40, they'd have to go 8-6.
The Mets' 1962 record of 40-120 is about to be smashed.
Slumping Syracuse won 11-0 behind a welcome 5 scoreless IP from Dom Hamel. Gilbert hitless in the romp. Yolmer Sanchez (.220) had 4 RBIs. Syracuse is now a scintillating 13-33 in last 46.
Drew Gilbert reminds me of another minors hitter...wait, I figured it out!
Drew Gilbert in 198 at bats has a .194 average and 8 HRs.
Nolan McLean in 130 at bats had a .192 average and 8 HRs.
Both are "top prospects", but for different reasons.
With Acuna called up, Wyatt Young should slide in to play more. Could Jett get promoted for a taste of AAA? Syracuse does play another week longer than Binghamton, so why not get Jett more September at bats?
Moving on....
In a line up with drearily low batting averages, all in the .230s or less, Binghamton lost 6-3. Three of the 7 hits were by Stanley Consuegra, who climbed his AA BA to .199.
The highest Binghamton average was - you guessed it - Drake Osborn at .239. You guessed that, right?
You knew Osborn was their best hitter, right? Drake who?

Happy Saturday. Let's all chip in a few bucks so Lindor can get a nice back massage. We need him to play all 162, and then about 18 playoff games. He is, after all, the MVP.

Definitely not pinch hit material at this point
As for Hamel, he is going to have to show me much more consistency before I return to his camp
If I was Stearns, I would SP2 him (behind Sproat) next spring at AAA as emergency call-ups
Mack, interesting on Hamel....in the first inning, I was looking at Gameday for 2 minutes. Hame threw 3 four season fastballs. 91.7, 91.8. 92.8. If that is all he is throwing velocity-wise, let's stop criticizing Megill, because he throws a lot harder. I remember also in that mid-March minor league game, Hamel went two innings, got ripped a few times, hit 97 once or twice - but his fastball looked very straight. I just wonder if he will ever make it. Meanwhile, Bryan Woo, drafted about 3 rounds later, is already a successful MLB starter, with tremendous rise on his fastball. Sproat's struggles at AAA may have stalled his fast track to the big leagues - or not. But he probably could use similar time as Scott had in AAA this year to dominate AAA in early 2025.
I wonder if Eddie Alvarez's long Mets career will math Pablo Reyes' long Mets career. I imagine he could be squeezed here?

The year the Mets drafted Hamel and Vasil, and all those pitchers, velocity wasn’t their aim but rather spin and RPM’s was. MLB is adapting that now and pitchers throwing more breaking stuff, but you need the fastball to keep them honest.
I was saddened that they didn’t sign Rocker, but I have to agree with Mack. His shoulder was a mess, how do you know what he will recover to be?
We are Met fans and are always waiting for the other shoe to drop but last night it was on the Phils and that was sweet as is where we are in the pennant race and it just emphasizes that its a marathon not a sprint. We are also very much not used to things going right but I like it but please FL get back on the field quickly as that could be a disaster. David Sterns should get POBO of the year award nice job young man.
We picked the can’t miss catcher instead.

I saw a post where Lindor has 7.3 WAR, Ohtani just 6.6. Hopefully Lindor is healthy and can give us a hot last 2+ weeks and win that MVP
Allard is Phils pitcher. 2-0, but mostly a career minor leaguer who stunk in the minors most of the year. Mets hitters need to make him uncomfortable
Can this young man bunt? Several times this year all we needed was a successful bunt to win a game. This could be a weapon he could offer us in a tight race.
