Tom Brennan: Carson Benge? AJ Ewing, Too? I Just Pinched Myself

BENGE

A lot has gone wrong this year for the Mets.

Even the superlative Juan Soto missed a few weeks with a leg injury.

But a few things have gone oh-so-extremely RIGHT - namely:

1) Carson Benge

2) AJ Ewing

Carson had a really tough first 3 weeks but has been SENSATIONAL since.

 - He’s already had Carson City named after him.

 - And the Mets just used their top pick for a guy named CARSON Wiggins.

Ben Carson told me you don’t have to be a brain surgeon to love Carson Benge.

EWING

AJ is already outstanding.

 - Better NY sports talent than the great Patrick Ewing? You decide.

Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

But forget me, how do you feel about each of these two?

I’d rather hear how thrilled YOU are with them.

Could they be in the same class as Strawberry? Wright?

Better?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Love Love Love both these guys and adding in McLean and Scott is a bonus so this year is not a total loss. Lets hope were pinching ourselves soon about this years draft.

Robbins is a good one and will rise quickly. I expect him to open up THIS SEASON in St. Lucie, and debut in Brooklyn on OD 2027

Other than Soto, the top batting averages in the daily lineup are Benge, Ewing, and Young. What do you say to that, Polonco, Robert, Bichette, Semien??!

Mets lose a heartbreaker, after Thornton throws 7 scoreless innings search of his first win. Come on!

But Binghamton, Brooklyn, and Lucie won. Syracuse got sprinkles.

In Binghamton, Semien homered and Robert added two hits (and 3 Ks) in 6 PAs.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Benge, Ewing and McLean have had good rookie seasons. Benge and McClean were supposed to be front runners for ROY and bring back draft capital but are not even close to competing. Luxury tax Punishment makes us draft 10 spots down preventing us from getting top 10 talent. The most successful thing we could do this year is tank, fall to third worst record in baseball and have a shot at the number one( or at least top 6) 2027 draft prospect. 2027 should have a bunch of high end college pitching prospects

I love tanks. Let’s get a top pick. And hit a bullseye. The San Antonio Spurs have turned tanking info great success over the past 30+ years.

Not the best talent money can buy.

I hope so. I wonder why he slipped the way he did?
