Jakson Reetz, Alex Jackson, Jeremy Vasquez, Spencer Turnbull, Bradley Zimmer, Mac Marshall

5-11-14  -  Jakson Reetz, C/OF, Norris HS (NE) - Reetz can play all over the field, and he can also hit the ball all over the field. He has proved no match for Nebraska pitching as he is hitting .588/.734/1.275 over 22 games with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 10 stolen bases. He has also drawn 22 walks and has struck out six times. His versatility makes him intriguing because of all the options he has. As a pitcher, he can hit the low-90s to go with an upper-70s slider. He can play the outfield where his arm would play well, third base where the arm and bat would play well, but catcher may be his best position, and he has all the tools to stick there. He may not be facing the best competition but he has always performed well on the showcase scene and is an alumni of Team USA Baseball. He is a day one talent but his commitment to Nebraska could make him a tough sign as there are a lot of family ties to the school. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-high-school-players-rise-final-edition/42853#cZ17mE5vsjiSvU18.99

3-16-14 – Cubs Den – It appears that Alex Jackson has emerged as the top bat in the draft.  He has the best bat speed in the draft and a plus plus arm that could play at C, 3B, or the OF, though there are some that believe Jackson prefers the OF.  He is a good athlete who handle a corner spot and should easily have the power to carry the position offensively.  He's experienced for a prep player, having started the showcase circuit as a junior in high school.  The Cubs tend to prefer college bats, but if they do go for  a high school bat, it'd be a guy like Jackson who has been tracked extensively and has more  experience vs. top competition than most people his age. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2014/03/mlb-draft-update-arms-ahead-of-bats-early-on-but-questions-remain-at-the-top/

3-26-14 – TTF – 10 high school players on the rise — third edition – Jeremy Vasquez, OF/1B, Martin County HS (FL) - Vasquez made the list last week, and he makes it again after going 14-for-20 over his last six games with nine doubles and six walks. For the season, he is now hitting a silly .596/.683/.958 over 15 games with 12 doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 walks to just three strikeouts. At 6’-1” and 200 pounds, he generates a ton of power from the left side and has an advanced approach at the plate — rarely missing a pitch. There will be added pressure put on his bat if he is relegated to first base, but the bat is special and the power is legit. One of the youngest players in his class, the upside is even greater. Committed to Florida. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-high-school-players-rise-third-edition/42098#CmrUPUJfBWKiV2MO.99

3-20-14 – Spencer Turnbull, RHP, Alabama - A power arm, the 6’-3”, 220 pound right-hander can touch 98 mph with his fastball and he adds an upper-70s curveball that is inconsistent but has a lot of potential. He also has some minor mechanical issues that need refining, but the Cubs have shown the confidence in selecting players who have a lot of potential but just need some tweaks here and there. Over 29.2 innings this season, he has a 0.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 26 K/15 BB, holding opponents to a .141 batting average. He also has allowed just one extra-base hit all season. Playing in the SEC, he will be facing great competition the rest of the way, making it easier for scouts to get a read on him. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2014/03/mlb-draft-a-look-at-5-college-arms-for-the-2nd-round/

3-19-14 – TTF – Bradley Zimmer, OF, San Francisco (12) - Zimmer is another guy who just keeps impressing, showing off all five tools this season. Over his last six games, he is hitting .417 with two home runs and four stolen bases. He is now up to .403/.446/.636 over 18 games with four doubles, four home runs and eight stolen bases. At 6’-5”, the left-handed hitter is showing what scouts wanted to see this year — in-game power. With his athleticism, speed and plus arm, he should stick at center field and might be the best power/speed prospect in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-college-players-rise-week-5/41905#JeRjl1lAwHFUPJlv.99

3-17-14 – TTF – 10 High School Players On The Rise – Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA) - On March 14, Marshall struck out 10 to no walks over five no-hit innings. On the season, he now has 25 K/3 BB over 15 innings, allowing just five hits. One of the better southpaws in the 2014 MLB draft, Marshall’s fastball sits in the low/mid 90s, and he has worked hard on his delivery and command over the past year. His curveball also has plus potential. At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. Committed to LSU. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-high-school-players-rise-second-edition/41810#OfV5L7GbWgi2Xqtf.99

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Bradley Zimmer, Charlie White, Max Pentecost, Stuart Fairchild

2-3-14 – MaxPreps - Top 10 MLB Draft Prospects in high school - 1. Alex Jackson, Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) Probably the most consistent prospect on the list, Jackson has routinely been among the top three high school players in every mock draft. He could be the top position player chosen in the draft, although there's no guarantee that he will remain at catcher. Jackson's raw power includes 36 home runs at the high school level over three seasons. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/B41AzcsA90iOL5xwFL8T7Q/top-10-major-league-baseball-draft-high-school-prospects.htm

6'-5" LHH Bradley Zimmer now at .419/.471/.710 w/ 5 2B, 6 HR, 11 SB over 22 G. He's gonna end up going top-10, maybe 4th ...

3-6-14 – Nats GM -   Charlie White CF University of Maryland -  An intriguing prospect playing his college baseball near Nationals Park, White serves as Maryland’s leadoff hitter and center fielder for the second consecutive year in 2014.  A left-handed batter with excellent contact skills and a knack for reaching base, White lacks home run power which limits his upside professionally.  Defensively, White utilizes his blazing speed, solid baseball instincts, and average arm to be a dynamic center fielder.   Without much physical projection remaining, White will need to maximize his impressive speed, hit, and defensive tools to overcome his lack of power in his attempt to climb through the minor leagues. A redshirt junior, White was drafted in the 29th round last year by the Yankees, but should see a jump up draft boards this coming June.  White could be a nice Day 2 selection, especially for a somewhat budget conscious organization. http://natsgm.com/2014/03/06/scouting-the-2014-mlb-draft-early-march-edition/

3-5-14 – TTF - 10 college players on the rise — week 3  - Max Pentecost, C, Kennesaw State (13) - On Sunday against Jacksonville State, Pentecost showed what a special talent he is and how many ways he can impact a game. He went 0-for-4 but drew two walks, was hit by a pitch twice and added a sacrifice fly in a 17-inning marathon that Jacksonville State won 9-8. He also caught the whole game. Over 14 games, he is hitting .339/.414/.475 with five doubles and a home run. The power still hasn’t shown up as some expected, but he is showing an advanced approach at the plate, athleticism and the defensive abilities to stick behind the plate. A likely first-round pick and rising. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-week-3/41478#ilZqhEaASo2Kkjik.99

OF - Stuart Fairchild, Sr., Seattle Prep (Wash.) - The best power hitter in the region, Fairchild has continued to progress and his power has developed well since his junior season. Expect a big year from the speedy outfielder with the popeye sized forearms, as he has become one of the most offensively advanced players in the region.  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9561

4/22/14

Jeff Hoffman, Aramis Garcia, Skyler Ewing, Sean Reid-Foley, Alex Jackson

2-21-14 – Project Insider - Jeff Hoffman, RHP — East Carolina - Hoffman, who was solid yet unspectacular last Friday, will be tested versus a strong Virginia lineup that includes potential first-round pick Derek Fisher, as well as Day 2 and 3 prospects Mike Papi, Nick Howard, Branden Cogswell and Brandon Downes. Let’s see how well Fisher, a left-handed bat, can handle Hoffman, whose changeup needs work and is an offering he hasn’t used a lot just yet. Hoffman will use the fastball up in the zone to get swings and misses, however, so Fisher will need to lay off and force Hoffman to throw him strikes. This is a terrific test for Fisher, who is adept at using the left-center field gap. http://prospectinsider.com/draft-prospect-watch-hoffman-vs-fisher

3-25-14 – 5. Aramis Garcia, Florida International Height 6'2", Weight: 200 DOB: 1/12/1993 R/R - Big time riser, here is his bio, here is a riser article and here is BA raving.  He has plus arm strength, decent speed for a catcher, great intangible sixth tool, can communicate well with pitchers.  He might go pretty well.  The Cardinals drafted him before, and those guys are never wrong about anything.  And as the guy has great pop times that would stick in pro ball right now, they might just be right. http://www.yougottalikethesekids.com/2014/03/ten-catchers-in-2014-mlb-draft.html

2-27-14 – TTF - 10 college players on the rise - Skyler Ewing, 1B/C, Rice (NR) - The 6’-1”, 220 pound right-hander hit just .226/.347/.342 over 57 games as a sophomore. He did show a good approach at the plate, however, drawing 23 walks to 30 strikeouts. After making some adjustments to his swing, he was impressive at the Cape Cod League, hitting .287/.374/.496 over 34 games for Hyannis with 14 extra-base hits. He then led the team in nearly every offensive category this fall and was set for a big year. Through his first eight games, he has been a monster for the Owls. He has gone 16-for-33 (.485) with two doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI. He has drawn four walks to three strikeouts, showing a continued progression in his approach while being more aggressive at the plate. He is most likely relegated to first base, putting a lot of pressure on his bat to produce, although he can fill in at catcher if needed. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-college-players-rise-2/41299#ldBBF8hRKzmaiy5H.99

2-11-14 – PG/Florida HS Dream Team – P – Sean Reid-Foley, Sr. Sandalwood - Reid-Foley had a strong summer, throwing well at most of the major events this year. Of the six events he threw at this summer, he touched at least 93 mph at five of them, topping at 95 at the East Coast Pro. On top of the big velocity, the fastball shows heavy arm-side run action, and it is his off-speed that sets him apart from some of the other power arms in this year's class. He works his slider into the mid-80s, a true slider with late bite, and he also owns a fading changeup which he can bring in on righthanded hitters, a devastating pitch against hitters at this level. When everything is working, Reid-Foley dominates the opposition and gets many empty swings. http://perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9372

3-2-14 - I saw [Alex] Jackson in person twice this summer and way more than that on TV/video. With the everlasting caveat that I’m not a scout, I walked away each time surprised — well, surprised the first time and more confused thereafter — that everybody had hyped up his bat while downplaying his glove. Not doing the Charlie Contrarian shtick, but I was more impressed with his glove than I thought and not really wowed by the bat. It’s still a really impressive, first round quality stick, especially since I think he could stick at catcher, but not the Bryce Harper (not a comparison, just mentioning him as the most recent high profile catcher to outfielder conversion) kind of hit/power/approach combination that makes you want to rush him to the big leagues as a right fielder. I’d draft him with high confidence as a mid-first round pick — could rise to top ten, easily — as a catcher, obviously a little bit lower as an outfielder (where there’s way more competition in this draft class, both prep and college). Lots of rumblings that he wants to move to the outfield ASAP to speed up his developmental timeline. That’s a fun twist on the usual team-first approach to that kind of thing. http://baseballdraftreport.com/2014/02/27/emails/

Draft 14 – Michael Gettys, Aaron Nola, Alex Jackson, Derek Fisher, Nick Gordon

2-17-14 - Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB  -  Michael Gettys, if he convinces scouts he'll hit. @NoToryousone1: of top 15 #mlbDraft Prospects, who can make biggest jump based on what they show

3-25-14 – MLB Draft Insider Mock –  11  Aaron Nola         RHP        LSU        -  Let me be clear; Nola is still fighting an uphill battle as a guy who doesn’t have an out-pitch and who throws from that low of slot, but his command and feel for pitching have been as good as any pitcher in baseball. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/03/the-board-2014-volume-ii/

2-14-14 - The No. 1 player from the Southern part of the state is Alex Jackson a catcher/outfielder from Rancho Bernardo (Calif.). Jackson is a physical player, standing in at 6-foot-1, 225-pounds and is headed off to Oregon, if he doesn’t sign after the draft. At the Area Code workout last summer, Jackson showed his defensive skills from behind the plate, but it was in the outfield where you got an appreciated for his arm strength. At the plate, he has a good swing and solid approach. - See more at: http://www.studentsports.com/baseball/2014/02/13/alex-jackson-socals-no-1/#sthash.ZE8Fg86C.dpuf

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 13. San Diego Padres — Derek Fisher, OF, Virginia - The Padres always seem to need some offense in their system, and Fisher is one of the best all-around college players available. He made great strides last year in his approach at the plate dropping his strikeouts from 61 to 38 over roughly the same number of games. The 6’-3” right-hander is a great athlete with good speed on the base paths. Over 53 games as a sophomore, he hit .306 with 12 doubles, seven home runs, stole eight bases and had a .420 OBP/.505 SLG. He hit .333 in the Cape Cod League and drew 25 walks to just 19 strikeouts, again showing his improvement in his approach. I think a big year is coming. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

2-11-14 – PG/Florida HS Dream Team – UT – Nick Gordon, Sr. Olympia - Gordon has been in the national spotlight for some time and continues to show high level tools every time he steps on the field. The multi-position standout will stick at shortstop at the next level, thanks to his superb athleticism and smooth fielding actions, but he also has a strong feel with the bat from the left side. Gordon is also a top round talent on the mound, working comfortably with his fastball in the low-90s and also shows feel for a hammer breaking ball. He has the MLB bloodlines – his father is former big-league coser Tom “Flash” Gordon – but Gordon is his own player and has added noticeable muscle to his frame, helping to develop power and show all five tools at an elite level.  http://perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9372

4/1/14

Draft 14 – Sean Newcomb, Alex Jackson, Max Pentecost, Cole Tucker, Clay Casey

2-11-14 - Number 6 on the countdown is Hartford junior LHP Sean Newcomb. The Middleboro, Massachusetts native attended Middleboro High School where he went 9-0 with a 0.46 ERA and three saves as a senior in 58 innings pitched. As a freshman, he made nine starts while going 2-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched before suffering a season ending injury. His sophomore season saw him go 5-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts) while striking out 92 batters in only 72 innings pitched. He walked 37 batters while holding opponents to a .213 average. http://ht.ly/2DLX8Y

3-25-14 – MLB Draft Insider Mock – 06   Alex Jackson      C/OF      Rancho Bernardo HS (Calif.)  - Hey! A hitter! I’d say that no position players in the top five is just a case of the pitching being amazing, but, that’d be a lie. Jackson hasn’t been outstanding to start the year, but I think he has the most talent of any hitter — college or prep — in this year’s class. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/03/the-board-2014-volume-ii/

2-5-14 - Max Pentecost, C, Kennesaw State - If scouts believe Pentecost can stick behind the plate, he has an outside chance to go this high with a strong junior season. His offensive potential alone makes him a first round pick. He picked up MVP honors at the Cape Cod League after hitting .346 over 35 games with six home runs, 29 RBI and five stolen bases. He also drew 16 walks to 22 strikeouts, showing off a solid approach at the plate. The 6’-2”, 195 pound right-hander is a very good athlete who has been clocked at 6.8 in the 60. Over 57 games as a sophomore, he hit .302/.374/.410 with 14 doubles, three home runs and drew 22 walks to 27 strikeouts. More of a line-drive hitter right now, many believe more power is going to come. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-dark-horse-candidates-chicago-cubs-first-pick/41075#UeYBipV5rOuYd7xE.99

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 67. Atlanta Braves — Cole Tucker, SS, Mountain Pointe HS (AZ) - A switch-hitting shortstop with crazy hair who does everything well on a baseball field, the 6′-3″, 175 pound Tucker is long and rangy with good actions to remain at a premium position. He was a leader for the gold-medal winning U18 USA Team. At the plate, he makes good contact with a loose swing and projects to a top-of-the-order hitter with decent speed (6.8/60). Committed to Arizona. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 40 Clay Casey OF R/R 6-1 196 Desoto Central, Southhaven, Miss. Mississippi http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

3/26/14

Draft 14 – Touki Toussiant, KJ Harrison, Jacob Gatewood, Reese Cooley, Alex Jackson

2-5-14 - Touki Toussiant, RHP, Coral Springs HS (FL) - “Raw” would be the word that best describes Toussaint. His stuff is electric, but can also get erratic. His fastball can touch 98 mph with explosive life and his curveball is already a plus pitch — a mid-70s hammer that some consider the best in the class. He adds a lot of deception to his delivery, and at 6’-2”and 195 pounds, there is still room for projection. He also features a cutter, and his change-up, like most prepsters, is still developing. He is long, lean and athletic — something scouts love for further development. Committed to Vanderbilt. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-dark-horse-candidates-chicago-cubs-first-pick/41075#UeYBipV5rOuYd7xE.99

1-27-14 – BP - Positional Preview: High School Catchers - KJ Harrison | C/3B | Punahou (Honolulu, HI) | Commit: Oregon State  Height/Weight: 6-foot-1/195 pounds  B/T: R/R  Draft Day Age: 17y 10m  Harrison first impressed on the national stage in June at the Perfect Game National Showcase, displaying the foundation for an above-average future offensive profile and adequate actions behind the plate. Between June and October Harrison began to unlock his swing, showing better barrel acceleration and an ability to more consistently produce backspin and carry. His Jupiter showings with GBG Marucci were highlighted by several smoked balls, including a loud double and a home run. He doesn’t stand out defensively, but his actions are solid and he easily held his own throughout the summer. One of the youngest tier one prospects in the draft class, the Oregon State commit almost certainly has another big jump in development awaiting him in the near future. You may not have heard the name trumpeted yet, but it could be called loud and early come June. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22662

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 7. Philadelphia Phillies — Jacob Gatewood, SS/3B, Clovis HS (CA) - While the power is massive and obviously his calling card, the 6’-5” right-hander also has a plus arm and is athletic enough to hold down the hot corner. He may not steal many bases, but he won’t have to with the power he has. Another kid I saw at Wrigley, he was depositing balls out of the park with such ease, it’s scary to imagine him in a couple of years. He won basically all of the home run derbys over the summer and is a high-character kid. A future left side of J.P. Crawford and Gatewood should make Phillies fans very happy. Committed to USC. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 61 Reese Cooley OF R/R 6-1 197 Fleming Island, Orange Park, Fla. Chipola College http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

3-20-14 – Cubs Insider - • Alex Jackson, Rancho Bernardo High School (San Diego) catcher/outfielder: The farm system’s biggest weakness happens to be catcher, and this front office has so many connections in San Diego. Committed to the University of Oregon. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/mlb-draft-cubs-identifying-targets-no-4-overall-pick

3/16/14

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Nick Gordon, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Gareth Morgan

1-27-14 – BP - Positional Preview: High School Catchers - Alex Jackson | C/OF | Rancho Bernardo (San Diego, CA) | Commit: Oregon  Height/Weight: 6-foot-2/210 pounds  B/T: R/R  Draft Day Age: 18y 5m  Jackson boasts one of the best blends of offensive and defensive upside in the draft class, with a chance to hit for average and power while providing solid defense behind the dish and a strong catch-and-throw game. The Oregon commit routinely impressed in batting practice throughout the summer showcase circuit, with big pull side power generated through a leveraged swing. In-game the load can get a little deep, with the swing length causing some issues with velocity, but the bat-to-ball ability and bat speed give hope that the Oregon commit will figure things out as he continues to log reps against quality arms. Behind the plate Jackson moves well side-to-side with and shows an ability to impact the game with his arm, clocking pops as low as 1.77 for me over the summer and routinely sitting in the 1.85 to 1.95 range with low, level lines on his throws. There’s work to be done, no doubt, but the San Diego prepster has the body and athleticism to grow into a solid receiver and defender. Should a team desire to shift him to a corner to expedite offensive development, he is athletic enough to handle right field and possesses more than enough arm. Jackson was a worthy recipient of the first annual Baseball Prospectus Prospect of the Year Award last August as an impressive athlete with a chance to grow into an impact bat at a premium defensive position. He currently profiles as a solid top half of the first round talent. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22662

1-24-14 - Nick Gordon, son of former ballplayer Tom and brother of Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Dee, is one of the most exciting prospects in the upcoming draft largely because he is considered a top-15 prospect as both a pitcher and a position player. Like his brother Dee, Nick has a slight frame—standing at 6’2” and 170 pounds—but he projects to fill out more than his older brother. Also like his brother, Nick has outstanding speed, which helps him both on the bases and in the field. Currently, Nick is a shortstop as a position player, and there’s little reason to think he would have to move off the position. He has great range and an absolute cannon to go along with great hands. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1934895-4-prospects-the-new-york-mets-could-target-in-the-2014-mlb-draft/page/2

1-26-14 - Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB  - Turner overall, Bregman better bat. Bregman a pro 2B. @dhb38: diff classes but who's better Trea Turner or Alex Bregman? Both ss?

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 24. Detroit Tigers — Kyle Schwarber, C/1B, Indiana - The 6’-0”, 230 pound right-hander has tremendous power and is also one of the better hitters available in the 2014 MLB draft. His ability to remain behind the plate is still up for debate, but he wants to stay there and has been working hard on his defense. Over 61 games as a sophomore, he hit .366/.456/.647 with 10 doubles, 18 home runs and drew 42 walks to just 37 strikeouts. He then hit .308/.396/.436 over 21 games for the Collegiate National Team with 11 walks. We all saw the premium put on college bats in last year’s draft, and Schwarber should benefit from that this year. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 45 Gareth Morgan OF R/R 6-4 231 North Toronto (Ont.) Collegiate Uncommitted http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

3/14/14

Draft 14 – Derek Fisher, Carlos Rodon, Alex Jackson, Marcus Wilson

1-20-14 – PG Preseason College All-Americans – Outfield - Derek Fisher, Virginia - 2013 Stats: .293 AVG, 12 2B, 3 3B, 7 HR, 48 RBI, 28 BB, 40 SO, 8 SB - Fisher has yet to live up to his full potential, but all the pieces are there to accomplish that goal as a junior this spring. Fisher is a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, who has an impressive skill set, most notably very solid raw power. Fisher should excel at the plate with plenty of help around him in this year’s Virginia lineup. For now, the talented junior is ranked the nation’s No. 6 college prospect. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9294

1-23-14 - Jonathan Mayo ‏@JonathanMayoB3 - RT Where would Carlos Rodon, TToussaint and JGatewood rank? @jakgreenberg31 @jimcallisMLB Rodon top 5; Toussaint and Gatewood not yet #mlbpipeline

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 2. Miami Marlins — Alex Jackson, C/OF, Rancho Bernardo HS (CA) - With four picks in the top 42, I can see the Marlins gambling a bit here and going with the prep bat over a guy like Jeff Hoffman — whom many have going at this spot. One of the more polished prep players in the 2014 MLB draft, Jackson is a 6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander with excellent bat speed and tremendous power to all fields. While he has the goods to at least be given a shot behind the plate, most believe he will end up in a corner outfield spot where his plus arm and bat would play well. Committed to Oregon. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 24 Marcus Wilson OF R/R 6-2 176 Junipero Serra HS, Los Angeles Arizona State http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

2/21/14

Draft 14 – Cameron Varga, Alex Jackson, Monte Harrison, Alex Verdugo

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 47. Philadelphia Phillies — Cameron Varga, RHP, Cincinnati Hills Academy (OH) - A converted shortstop, the 6’-3”, 205 pound right-hander has established himself as one of the top prep arms in the 2014 MLB draft in a short time, thanks in part to a fastball that sits at 93-95 mph. With his lively arm and fluid delivery, there is still room for added velocity. He adds an upper-70s curveball with good depth and a solid upper-70s change-up. Considering he has only been pitching full time for two years, his progression has been scary. Committed to North Carolina. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-2/40753#ppGUqI6CbWFvzsPf.99

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  4- C Alex Jackson Rancho Bernardo HS (Oregon commit) 12/25/95- He comes from baseball rich HS Rancho Bernardo in So Cal and is very well known on the showcase scene. He has a very good arm and probably moves to RF as a pro. RH power is hard to find and this kid has it.  Showcased his arm at PG national with a 1.85 POP time and an easy swing, very lively bat. He was also clocked at 97 in the OF which would certainly be a plus arm out there. (Twins @ 5) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 25. Monte Harrison, OF, Lee’s Summit HS (MO) - A two-sport star, the 6’-2”, 200-pound right-hander may be a tough sign as he is one of the top wide receivers in the country and has a scholarship to play at Nebraska. On the diamond, he has plus speed (6.65/60), a plus arm (97 mph from the outfield) and has developed into a solid hitter, and his size suggests more power will come. Over 83 at-bats as a junior, he hit .457 with 12 doubles, three triples and six home runs. One of the more exciting players available with a ton of upside but football may get in the way. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 12 Alex Verdugo OF/LHP L/L 6-0 200 Sahuaro, Tucson, Ariz. Arizona State http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

Draft 14 – Luke Weaver, Brandon Finnegan, Alex Jackson, Shane Benes

1-3-14 – TTF Baseball - 17. Baltimore Orioles — Luke Weaver, RHP, Florida State - A 6’-2”, 180 pound right-hander, Weaver enjoyed an outstanding season for the Seminoles this year. Over 15 starts, he had a 2.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 119 K/19 BB over 98.1 innings. His 10.9 K/9 and 6.3 K/BB ratios show the kind of power/command pitcher he is. His fastball sits in the low/mid 90s and he adds a change-up that shows plus potential. There is still room for projection and added velocity as he fills out. Over 21 innings for Team USA, he had 17 K/5 BB.

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  39- LHP Brandon Finnegan TCU 4/14/93- The win total for a pitcher we all know is a terrible statistic to define how good a pitcher is. Certainly, that case is proven with Brandon who went 0-8 as a sophomore at TCU. The power lefty sits under 6’0 but routinely dials his fastball at 95 plus. Some see him as a game changing 2-pitch reliever but he certainly has the repertoire to be a SP if his change develops. But, if I had to project him out I would suggest his future is out of the bullpen. (Out of first round- Rockies selection)

11-21-13 – BA Top 100 High School Players - 2 Alex Jackson C/OF R/R 6-1 224 Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Calif. Oregon http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-high-school-top-100-with-commitments/

12-10-13 – TTF – Top 50 HS Players - 49. Shane Benes, SS, Westminster Christian Academy (MO) - The 6′-3″, 200-pound right-hander showed off his tremendous raw power in Jupiter by registering 108 mph on his exit velocity. His size may move him off short but he shows soft hands, enough range and an arm to at least make it interesting. Very good bloodlines as his dad, Andy Benes, was the first-overall pick by the Padres in the 1988 MLB draft and spent 14 seasons in the majors. Committed to Missouri. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99

12/26/13

Draft 14 – Nick Gordon, Alex Jackson, Sam Coonrod, Joey Pankake, JustinTwine

11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 2  -   Nicholas Gordon SS RHP 6-2 170 L R Olympia Windermere FL  Florida State FTB Chandler Team  -  Good athlete, really projects both ways, outstanding defensive SS stood out at WWBA, BCS and PG Nat., great bloodlines, up to 94 @ PG World, Very good at PG All American Game  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Alex Jackson (2014 C/OF Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler, 2014 SS), Jacob Gatewood (Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team) - Jackson and Gatewood are the type of alluring high ceiling prospects that cause some scouts to dream on their upside, and others to dwell on their present flaws. Their big reward potential comes with big risk, but both are the type of draft day gambles that can change the fortunes of a franchise. If either reaches their ceiling, they have a chance to become cornerstone players for whichever organization selects them. Despite being below average straight away runners, both are good athletes. Gatewood has good present defensive actions at shortstop and an above average arm, Jackson's plus-plus present arm is a weapon behind the plate and is also well suited for right field. The raw power for both players is tremendous and if all goes right they each have a chance to hit 30-plus home runs a year while manning premium defensive positions. Both strike out a lot even at this level and make infrequent contact, causing a lot of scouts to hesitate despite their gamechanging ceiling. These are the types of prospects that put a lot of pressure on scouting directors holding picks between fifth and fifteenth overall. They will be fun players to follow not only leading up to draft day, but throughout their development as professionals. Work ethic and desire to learn and improve will go a long way to determining whether these two will fail to overcome the challenges of pro ball, or go on to achieve superstardom and leave their mark in the Major Leagues. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 14. Sam Coonrod / RHP / Southern Illinois – Coonrod has touched 98 with his fastball and has shown an average breaking ball, though most I’ve talked to believe he’s a reliever at the next level unless his command improves considerably. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 48. Joey Pankake, ss/3b/rhp, South Carolina: Powerfully built infielder controls the strike zone and has plus raw power to fit the profile at third base. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Kodi Medeiros, Nick Burdi, Ti’Quan Forbes,Bryson Brigman

draft - alex jackson11-11-13 – PG HS Rankings – 3  -   Alex Jackson C OF, 3B 6-2 210 R R Rancho Bernardo Escondido CA  Oregon San Diego Show  -  Huge power, very good defensive catcher, Also play OF well. Has all the tools, outstanding at PG Nat. Games and Area Codes. Outstanding at PG National. PG All American  http://www.perfectgame.org/Rankings/Players/Default.aspx?gyear=2014&num=500

11-6-13 – Todd Gold – WWBA World Championship – Kodi Medeiros (2014 LHP, Ohio Warhawks) - Medeiros' start against Chandler Baseball was the main event of amateur baseball's main event. Hundreds of golf carts created a wall four plus rows deep behind the plate to get a glimpse at the 2014 class' most intrguiging prospect. The native of Hilo, a town of aprox. 45,000 on Hawaii's big island, was relatively unknown on the national scene prior to taking the mound at the PG National Showcase in June. His electric stuff took the scouting community by surprise and he continued to impress throughout the summer in one and two inning stints at the Area Code Games and PG All-American Classic. But with his small frame, unorthodox delivery and short track record there has been an ongoing debate amongst scouts as to whether he can maintain his high level stuff through the physical rigors of a role in the starting rotation. Simply put; there has never been a prospect quite like Medeiros. That fact should be viewed as a huge positive, though the lack of a viable comp does make him somewhat more difficult to evaluate. His fastball sits comfortably in the 90-92 range and has peaked as high as 95, but more than the velocity, his fastball features plus movement and life, seemingly accelerating after leaving his hand and darts hard to the arm side with sink. He has shown some feel for locating his fastball on the corners, which is impressive considering it's depth of run. His slider has plus bite and depth, but is a pitch that he's still developing feel for. This should come as no surprise given that very few catchers at this level are able to handle the pitch because of it's devastating late bite and huge depth. Subsequently, he is unable to use it with two strikes or a runner on third in game situations. With high-level catching, Medeiros will have an opportunity to develop better feel for using the pitch in-game situations and begin to realize the pitch's 80-grade potential. His changeup was inconsistent in his previous outings, flashing plus at the PG National before betraying him at the Area Code Games and in the PG All-American Classic. With that in mind he made a point to show it off in Jupiter and with very go od results, locating the first three for strikes. In Jupiter his changeup caused several ugly swings, and several of them were legitimate plus offerings, though he still has work to do to improve his consistency with it. His three inning outing was a Rorshach for scouts, as those who view him as a starter will point to his six pitch first inning and quality of changeup, while those who see a future in the bullpen will fixate on his velocity dipping to 88-90 in the third inning. Regardless of his future role, Medeiros is a special talent who has a chance to be among the best pitchers in baseball in that role, should he manage to stay healthy going forward and continue to develop. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9157

11-4-13 – MLB Draft Insider - Top 14 for ’14: College Pitchers - 12. Nick Burdi / RHP / Louisville — He’s strictly a reliever, but potentially a very good one with a fastball that has touched triple digits and a slider that will give right-handed hitters fits. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/11/top-14-for-14-college-pitchers/

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 39. Ti’Quan Forbes, ss, Columbia (Miss.) HS: Young and spindly, the three-sport Forbes is a premium athlete and plus runner who will need time to develop with the bat. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

Draft 14 – Ryan Avidano, Jacob Gatewood, Alex Jackson, Jeremiah Mohammed, Benito Santiago

draft - ryan avidano10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - Championship game starter LHP Ryan Avidano, 18, was named the event’s most valuable pitcher after throwing four scoreless innings and striking out seven versus three hits against the Burn, who entered the championship game undefeated and having scored nearly six runs a game. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Avidano has an extra-large frame, lanky build and long limbs. Avidano (Starr’s Mill High, Fatetteville, Ga.) has a deceptive delivery and mid-to-high-80s fastball. He threw his fastball for strikes and relied on his breaking ball-changeup combination, throwing offspeed pitches on nearly half of his pitches. . http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 2. Jacob Gatewood, SS, Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team (Clovis, Calif., HS/Southern California) -  6-foot-5, 190-pound athlete can put on a show in batting practice, needs more consistent game production. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 6. Alex Jackson, c/of, Rancho Bernardo HS, San Diego: Pairs plus power and arm strength with athleticism and a chance to stay behind the plate. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-27-13 – PG Showcase – RHP Jeremiah Muhammad (Coral Springs Christian Academy, Somerset, N.J.) intrigued with his 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame and quick arm in two innings of relief with the Atlanta Blue Jays. Muhammad, who hails from the Garden State but attends school in the Sunshine State, worked in the 87-90 range and was around the zone. He coupled his heater with an 11-5 shaped, 75-76 mph curveball that flashed two-plane bite. At this point, the righthander is raw, more of a thrower who could stand to improve his angle and rhythm, but Muhammad’s physicality and speed of his arm are certainly attention-grabbers. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/projectable-righties-rule-as-playoff-push-begins-in-jupiter/

Draft 14 – Evan Skoug, Nick Gordon, Kyle Schwarber, Alex Jackson, Slade Heggen

draft - evan skoug10-30-13 - Clint Longenecker/BA – WWBA World Championship - Although he was not a part of the championship squad, Reds Scout Team catcher Evan Skoug won the tournament’s most valuable player award by hitting .636/.800/1.000 with a double and a home run. The lefthanded-hitting Texas Christian commit from Libertyville (Ill.) High had eight walks against one strikeout. Skoug is a physical beast with a powerful lower half, sloped shoulders and strength throughout his large frame at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. He is a hard-nosed, high-intensity player with above-average raw power. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/evoshield-canes-win-perfect-game-wwba-world-championship/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 4. Nick Gordon, SS/RHP, Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Chandler (Olympia High, Orlando, Fla./Florida State)  Son of former All-Star Tom offers defensive ability, above-average speed and a low-90s fastball. http://ht.ly/qi5No

10-15-13 – Baseball America - 17. Kyle Schwarber, c/1b, Indiana: Physical lefthanded swing helps him hit for power and average; his best position is clearly the batter’s box. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-29-13 – Jim Callis – Top 10 World Wood Bat Association World Championship (WWBA) Jupiter, Fla - 1. Draft - michael conforto10-14-13 – Top ’14 College Hitters - 13. 9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 14. San Francisco Giants — Luke Weaver, RHP, Florida State  A 6’-2”, 180-pound right-hander, Weaver enjoyed an outstanding season for the Seminoles this year. 10-15-13 – Baseball America - 35. Dylan Cease, rhp, Milton (Ga.) HS: Athletic pitcher who produces easy velocity, with a fastball up to 97 mph; inconsistent breaking ball and command are knocks. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-draft-top-50-october-2013-carlos-rodon/

10-18-13 – Matt Garroich – Carlos Rodon is the best lefty in the country and, as it stands, the clear-cut favorite to go first overall. He is the ace of the N.C. State Wolfpack and has been since he came to campus. He will likely be the same on any team he pitches as long as he is healthy. On the same squad is one of the top college hitters, Trea Turner. He is an impressive athlete with 80 speed and solid defense at short while swinging the bat well enough to impact in the batters box as well. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/10/18/4851030/2014-mlb-draft-atlantic-region-college-discussion

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Bryan Dobzanski, Justus Sheffield, Michael Cederoth, Tyler Kolek

draft - alex jackson9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 11. Toronto Blue Jays* — Alex Jackson, C, Rancho Bernardo HS (CA)  The Blue Jays get this pick for failing to sign their 2013 first-round pick, Phil Bickford. Jackson, at 6’-2” and 210 pounds, has some of the best power in the entire 2014 MLB draft and the ball jumps off his bat differently than most due to his strong wrists and plus bat speed. While he has the tools to remain behind the plate, some feel he may be better suited for a corner outfield spot where his power and canon arm would play well. He hit .343/.479/.806 over 35 games as a junior with 14 home runs and 29 walks. Committed to Oregon.  http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 19.)LHP, Justus Sheffield, Tullahoma HS, Tullahoma TN, 5'11 180 L/L, saw him last year, seemed like the same guy but was within himself more for 5 innings, didn't rush as much as last year, fb velo same, 88-92, most were 88-89 with some life middle out vs RHH, sharp cb at times, not great command of it yet, but it has nasty action when he leads with elbow, all pitches from 3/4 slot, needs to stay compact in delivery, move to 1b is fair, work to be done still, good looking lefty for 2014 for sure, Vandy commit? Brother had arm blowout during 2013 season, Justus has had time to think and being a lefty, a premium spot out of HS, only has added value, plus he's got two solid average pitches and has improved his command over his 2012 performance. Still a bit eratic, but he's young and loves the game! http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects - 7. Michael Cederoth, rhp, San Diego State (Drafted: 2011, Diamondbacks -- 41st round) - The ultra-talented Cederoth is yet another prospect who could rise a few spots with a strong 2014 campaign. Cederoth, a striking 6-foot-6, 210-pounder, showed better command last season with 109 strikeouts and 48 walks, but could still use some advancements in that area of his game. Otherwise, Cederoth throws four pitches, his 95-101 fastball the showcased pitch. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9081

10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Tyler Kolek, RHP, Sheppard HS (TX) - High school arms are the riskiest of all 2014 MLB draft picks as they are usually far from a finished product and injuries are always a concern. Their bodies aren’t physically mature yet and there is a lot of projection involved when it comes to pitching. At 6’-6”, 245 pounds and the ability to hit triple digits on the radar gun, projection isn’t a concern with Kolek — he already is a man. Aside from his plus heater, he also has shown the makings of a plus slider but still needs to develop his offspeed stuff. He also runs a 4.8/40, showing great athleticism for his size. The Cubs are trying to build a sustainable farm system to be perennial contenders down the line. Kolek would be a kid who they could take their time developing and the finished product could be silly. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

10/22/13

Draft 14 – Alex Jackson, Josh Pennnington, Michael Kopech, Kyle Schwarber, Trae Turner

draft - alex jackson9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 5.)C, Alex Jackson, Rancho Bernardo HS, 6'2 200, R/R, strong, durable, has pop in his bat, needs mechanic work with approach as hitter, throws well from OF and behind dish, interesting to follow next 2 years, 2014, Rancho Bernardo HS, Ca, slimmed down from 220 and throws better and more fluid than he did in 2012. Quick power stroke with gaining discipline as a hitter, upside is there to have a productive pro career.  http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 64.Josh Pennington – RHP, Lower Cape May Regional (NJ) http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 16. Arizona Diamondbacks — Michael Kopech, RHP, Mount Pleasant HS (TX) - Another one of those loose arm, projectable right-handers, the 6’-4” Kopech has an electric fastball that can touch 93 mph and he has some deception to his delivery. His mechanics need some refining and he needs to command his secondary stuff better, but the size and stuff are already there. He was absolutely dominant at the Under Armour Game at Wrigley, showing off an explosive mid-90s fastball with late life and a nasty slider with hard bite. Had 129 K/33 BB over 80.1 innings as a junior. Quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects - 8. Kyle Schwarber, c, Indiana (Drafted: Never) - One of the chief architects of Indiana’s rise up the college baseball rankings last season, Schwarber is as good as it gets from an offensive standpoint. The bulky 6-foot, 230-pounder, is good enough behind the plate, but what sets him apart from other prospects are his offensive skills. Schwarber is a smart, pure hitter, who has impressive raw power and the ability to hit to all sides of the field.  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9081

10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Trea Turner, SS, North Carolina State - If the speedy right-hander is still available when the Cubs are on the clock, you could be reading about their future shortstop and leadoff man. At 6’-”1 and 170 pounds, Turner is the best base-stealer in the 2014 MLB draft and is also one of the best hitters. More than 56 games as a sophomore, he hit .368/.455/.553 with 30 stolen bases and drew 38 walks to just 30 strikeouts. He also hit seven home runs, showing developing power. As a freshman, he led the nation in stolen bases with 57 and was only thrown out four times. His unreal range, strong arm and instincts will allow him to remain at shortstop and, even though Javier Baez looks like he should remain at shortstop, you can never have enough shortstop prospects in your system. Plus, I think Turner would be able to handle centerfield or second base if needed. The Cubs have plenty of power hitters in their system. What they lack is leadoff-type guys who can get on, steal bases and set the table for the thumpers. Turner is that guy and a future lineup with Baez, Albert Almora, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and Turner make me giggle. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

10/20/13

Draft 14 – Michael Kopech, Alex Jackson, Austin DeCarr, Luis Ortiz, Nick Burdi

draft - michael kopech9-29-13 – XMLBScout – 18.)RHP, Michael Kopech, Mt Pleasant HS, Mt Pleasant TX, 6'2 1/2 185, lean frame with long arms and legs, gets good extension out front on his fb and breaking ball, command is good and should improve as he progresses into college and pro baseball, fb velo 88-93, most were 89-91 with tailing action down in the zone, most fb were true, cb with sharp 11/5 break, at times very good, other times flat and easy to read, flashed a few change ups with some deception, tends to slow upper body down on certain pitches he throws, correctible and definitely the type of young arm to watch in 2014, college may be in the picture but open to pro ball for sure. Upside unlimited, improved over the summer in each outing at National scene. http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/

10-9-13 – Early Pick for Cubs - Alex Jackson, C, Rancho Bernardo HS (CA) - Another position in which the Cubs lack depth is catcher. Jackson, a 6’-2”, 200 pound right-hander has the size, arm and footwork to remain behind the plate, although some question that and believe his offensive potential may land him in a corner outfield spot. He may have the best power in the prep class and the ball jumps off his bat differently than others. He knocked some moonshots of his own out of Wrigley and the sound his bat makes upon contact lets you know the power he possesses. He hit .343/.479/.806 over 35 games as a junior with 14 home runs and 29 walks. If he remains at catcher, his road to the big leagues will take longer then if he played in the outfield as learning the position takes time. Like Kolek, however, he could be worth the wait in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-early-targets-chicago-cubs-fourth-overall-pick/38723

9-11-13 - Sully’s 2014 Top 100 MLB HS Draft Prospects – 76.Austin DeCarr – RHP, Salisbury (MA) HS http://www.ninebaseball.org/Wordpress/sullys-2014-top-100-mlb-hs-draft-prospects/

9-30-13 – TTF Mock 2.0 - 27. Pittsburgh Pirates — Luis Ortiz, RHP, Sanger HS (CA) The 6’-3”, 220-pound right-hander will be almost 19 on draft day, making him one of the older players in his class. Because of this, his upside isn’t as high as others on this list. That said, his stuff is really good and his fastball sits in the 92-95 mph range. He adds a developing plus slider that sits in the mid-80s and his offspeed stuff is still in the developmental stages. He has great mound presence and feel for his pitches, and he also is a good athlete. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-2-0-draft-order-set/38280#5E3F5j1jWOgE69bJ.99

10-6-13 – Kendall Rogers/PG – College Prospects -  9. Nick Burdi, rhp, Louisville (Drafted: 2011, Twins -- 24th round) - Speaking of dominant arms, the 2013 Perfect Game College All-American has a bright future ahead both as a college junior and at the professional level. Burdi has an unreal arm with a fastball anywhere from 96-100, a plus slider in the upper
80s, low 90s and a changeup that continues to improve. Burdi is somewhat of a gamble putting him this high, this early. For instance, just one college reliever has been selected in the top 10 picks in the past five MLB drafts -- Stanford's Drew Storen, who went to the Washington Nationals in 2009. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9081

Draft 14 - Luis Ortiz, Joe Sottolano, Alex Verdugo, Alex Jackson, Michael Kopech

draft - luis ortiz8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 4. Luis Ortiz, rhp, Sanger (Calif.) High/San Diego Show - The 6-foot, 223-pound Ortiz has been one of the most consistent arms this summer. Working from the stretch with an easy delivery and three-quarter arm slot, Ortiz sat 91-94 mph, filling up the strike zone in two quick innings. The Fresno State commit has a mid-80s slider that flashes plus, low-80s changeup and has started integrating a curveball into his repertoire. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

9-24-13 - College Baseball Daily has learned that Army has fired Joe Sottolano for a “pattern of behavior” according to a press release from the academy. Sottolano had been coaching at West Point since 1992 becoming the head coach in 2000. He has a career record of 391-286-5 in his 13 years as the head coach. http://ht.ly/2AaneQ

9-21-13 –  Alex Verdugo came out swinging in his first at-bat, showing his strength and excellent bat speed by hitting a triple to the right-centerfield gap on his first swing of the tournament. A lefthanded hitter and pitcher, Verdugo squared up the ball his next two at-bats with deep fly outs outs to left field. On his last trip to the plate, in the bottom of the sixth, the left fielder was positioned nearly on the warning track, clearly aware of Verdugo's power and why he is ranked as the 20th best prospect in the 2014 class. .  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9017

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 5 – Brewers – C Alex Jackson – Rando Bernardo (CA) HS – We can talk all day about what a great catcher Jackson is, but this a future corner outfielder in the making. He probably will rate out as an average outfielder, but he does have a ++ arm that will work well out there. But, you’re drafting this guy for his bat. Is one of the top projected power hitters of the draft.

Draft 14 – Jeff Hoffman, Alex Jackson, Zane Gray, Max Pentacost, Ryan Castellani

draft - jeff hoffman9-27-13 - Jim Callis - The 2014 Draft is a solid group that impresses scouts more than the 2012 and 2013 talent pools. College pitching is always a prized commodity, and there's plenty behind Rodon, starting with right-handers Jeff Hoffman (East Carolina) and Tyler Beede (Vanderbilt). There's more velocity this year in the high school ranks, with righty Tyler Kolek (Shepherd, Texas, HS) leading the way with a consistent upper-90s fastball. The pitchers stand out more than the position players, though there are plenty of intriguing bats. Catcher/outfielder Alex Jackson (Rancho Bernardo HS, San Diego) and shortstop Jacob Gatewood (Clovis, Calif., HS) offer plenty of power, while Trea Turner (North Carolina State) has uncommon speed and is a rare collegian who should be able to play shortstop in the Majors. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130927&content_id=61864804&c_id=

8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 3. Alex Jackson, c, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Calif./San Diego Show - After standing out as an underclassman at the Tournament of Stars, Area Code Games and Under Armour All-America Game last summer, Jackson is one of the most famous players in the class. At 6-foot-1, 224-pounds, Jackson has a strong build with muscular legs and a wide back. The Oregon commit has above-average bat speed and feel to hit, although he has a deeper load and more of a bat wrap than he used to, lengthening his swing. Jackson has plus raw power. He has one of the strongest arms in the class, a plus weapon capable of pop times in the low-1.80 range. Jackson is more athletic than most catchers and runs well for the position. He has gotten some time in the outfield and could profile as a right fielder. Jackson will likely be the sixth first-rounder in the last 20 drafts out of Rancho Bernardo, a powerhouse program that produced Hank Blalock and Cole Hamels. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

9-21-13 – The name Zane Gray is recognizable to most well-read people and Big Island Baseball righthanded pitcher of the same name isn’t the first player of that name I’ve come across. This Gray threw three shutout innings Friday afternoon, striking out seven hitters with a fastball that topped out at 86 mph, a hard spinning 73 mph curveball to go with a long, loose arm action that projects well. .  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9017  9-21-13 –  Zane Gray  is a projectable right handed pitcher from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii who topped at 86 mph with his fastball and sat 82-84 with the pitch. He has a quick, long arm with good downhill on his pitches, including his fastball which showed occasional arm side run. .  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9017

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 30 – C Max Pentacost – Kennesaw State – Players earn their summer stripes in different ways and Pentacost earned his at the Cape Cod Games. He dominated offensively and was also named the Perfect Game College Summer Player of the Year. You can’t do better than that.
