B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

In the first matchup between Connecticut and
Binghamton this season, the B-Mets scored two runs in their
final inning at the plate to win 4-2. Righty Dylan Owen went a
season-long 6.1 innings giving up two runs on nine hits to get
a no-decision. In the top of the ninth, Jose Coronado doubled
off Joe Paterson to open the rally. After Paterson hit Josh
Thole, Lucas Duda strode to the plate looking to bunt. On the
first pitch he bunted at, Defenders’ catcher Jackson Williams
fired in behind Coronado at second, who promptly broke for
third and stole the base. Shortstop Brandon Crawford’s throw
to third went errant allowing Coronado to score the go-ahead
run. Ruben Tejada added the final run on the inning on a
sacrifice fly to right. Roy Merritt, who threw a scoreless eighth,
picked up his first win and Julio De La Cruz notched his fourth
save getting out of a bases-loaded no-outs jam in the ninth
unscathed.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Jose Sanchez will make
his eighth start of the season this evening at Dodd Stadium.
After a rough start to the year, Sanchez has calmed down and
gone at least five innings in each of his last four starts. Last
time out, May 15, he threw 5.2 innings at home against Trenton
but gave up three runs to take the loss. He balked twice in
the start, including balking the winning run in from third. He
had balked just one other time in his entire career entering
the outing. For the year, he is 1-4 with a 6.00 ERA. This is his
third straight season in a B-Mets uniform.

RHP Tim Alderson will make his third start of the year for Connecticut
tonight. His last start, May 16, was shortened to just
an inning due to rain, which suspended the game after an
inning. He no-hit New Hampshire for 6.2 innings May 10 at
MerchantsAuto.com Stadium with 10 strikeouts in his first AA
start. Alderson opened the season with San Jose (High-A)
going 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 26 innings. He is considered the
fourth-best prospect in the Giants organization by Baseball
America. The 20-year old righty was the 22nd overall pick in
the 2007 draft.

WINNING LATE:

The B-Mets have won three of their last five
games in their last at-bat. Last night, Binghamton plated two
runs in the ninth off Joe Paterson, who had yet to give up an
earned run in 2009, to win 4-2. The B-Mets won two games in
their last homestand in walk-off fashion against Trenton and
have won four of five overall.

Buffalo (AAA), Jose Coronado has gone 6-12 at the plate including
