Fail Whale:
link - Twitter, one of the biggest social networking sites on the web, decided to take a not so subtle jab at the New York Mets last night using their "fail whale" graphic. For those of you unfamiliar with the fail whale, when Twitter gets overloaded the site displays a graphic featuring a whale being carried by birds. Fans of the site have dubbed this the "fail whale". Last night, however, the site decided that the whale was not an appropriate enough symbol of failure so last night, when Twitter was over capacity, users were treated to this graphic:
Jeff Francoeur:
link - At least Jeff Francoeur still has his sense of humor. After learning he wasn’t in the Mets ‘ lineup against the Phillies, the rightfielder held a 30-minute closed-door meeting with Jerry Manuel Sunday morning, and both men left laughing. Manuel had said Saturday that Francoeur was going to platoon with Fernando Martinez , but Francoeur held out hope for a reprieve after hitting his second game-winning homer in a week Saturday night – the only two wins the Mets had in a six-game trip to Atlanta and Philadelphia. Francoeur wasn’t able to talk his way into the lineup, but he did get some assurance that he’ll play against more than just lefties.
Ruben Tejada:
link - Ruben Tejada, INF, Grade C+: .279/.326/.344 in 64 games in Triple-A, .212/.297/.250 in 35 major league games. Very young at age 20 and I still think he can develop.
Cory Vaughn:
8-7 from: - link - Vaughn leads the league in home runs (12) and RBI (43) and is on pace to shatter Brooklyn's single-season franchise highs in those categories (13 and 46, respectively). Vaughn also leads the league in slugging percentage (.574), ranks second in total bases (101), and third in runs scored (35). Vaughn is batting .313 (56-for-179) with seven doubles, three triples, and nine stolen bases. Cory -- a 21-year-old native of Elk Grove, CA is the son of former major league slugger Greg Vaughn, and was selected by the Mets in the 4th round of the 2010 June First-Year Player Draft, out of San Diego State University (CA), where he played for head coach, and Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis:
link - Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OF, Grade C+: .292/.340/.515, 16 homers, 13 steals, 30 walks, 92 strikeouts in 390 at-bats in Double-A. Solid across the board, main worry is high strikeout rate.
