D1 Game Notes
• The Los Angeles Times reported that pitcher Lucas Giolito was making “extraordinary progress” in rehabilitating his damaged elbow. There even is talk that he will be throwing “real soon”. I hope the people around him aren’t trying to rush him back before the high school season comes to an end. It would be a shame to see a seven figure arm go out the window.
• Congrats to South Carolina Coach Ray Tanner, who won his 1,100th Gamecock game Tuesday against Furman.
• Karsten Whitson will start next Tuesday for Frlodia.
• Samford pitcher Lex Rutledge was once considered a lock for a first round pick in 2012, but he seems to have fallen on hard times. Rutledge has pitched in nine games this season, giving up 12 earned runs in 8.0 innings pitched (13.50 ERA). He has struck out 12, but also walked nine other batters.
