Mets Option INF Josh Satin
Reassign RHP Fernando Cabrera and
INF Omar Quintanilla to minor league camp
March 23, 2012 –The New York Mets today announced that they have optioned INF JOSH SATIN and reassigned RHP FERNANDO CABRERA and INF OMAR QUINTANILLA to minor league camp.
Satin, 27, played 38 games with the Bisons last year and hit .317 (46-145) with a home run and 16RBI. He was the Mets’ 2011 Sterling Organizational Player of the Year and an Eastern League mid-season and postseason All-Star. Satin began the year with Double-A Binghamton and hit .325 (110-338) with 35 doubles, 11 home runs and 60RBI in 94 games before his July promotion to the Bisons.
Cabrera, 30, spent last season with Triple-A Sacramento and was 4-3 with a 2.71ERA and nine saves in 53 appearances (63.0IP, 73K). The reliever pitched 79 games with the Bisons from 2004-2006 and was 11-4 with a 2.65ERA and eight saves. Cabrera’s 173 strikeouts in only 135.2 innings are the most by any Bisons relief pitcher in the modern era.
Quintanilla, 30, was signed by the Mets as a minor league free agent on January 3, 2012. He played 51 games with Triple-A Round Rock in 2011 and hit .298 (62-208) with five home runs and 25RBI. He also spent 11 games with the Texas Rangers and had one hit in 22 at-bats.
