LAST GAME: Despite a strong Double-A debut on the mound from RHP Jacob DeGrom, the B-Met bats were shut down in a 1-0 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs. Xander Bogaerts led off the fourth inning with a bloop double down the right field line after DeGrom had given up just one hit through the first three innings. Two batters later, Tony Thomas brought him home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. That was the only blemish given up by DeGrom, and he left the game after eight innings. Brandon Workman was also dealing for Portland; he threw seven shutout innings, gave up four hits, and struck out nine B-Mets. Binghamton’s biggest threat came in the eighth after Portland looked to Chris Martin for relief. The B-Mets put runners on first-and-third with one out, but Danny Muno and Wilfredo Tovar both struck out to end the threat. Martin remained in the game for the ninth, and retired Binghamton in order to record the save.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Tyler Pill makes his third start of the season for Binghamton. In his last start, he received a no-decision against New Hampshire after giving up five runs on 10 hits in four innings on the mound. Pill was tagged with the loss in his first start of the season. He gave up five runs on five hits in five innings on the road against the Akron Aeros. Last season, he went a combined 9-5 between Savannah and St. Lucie. Pill was ranked the #25 prospect in the Mets organization by Baseball America prior to the 2013 season. He was drafted by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State Fullerton.

NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Ryan Tepera makes his third start of the season with New Hampshire. He has won both of his starts so far, including a game against Binghamton in his last outing. In that game, Tepera went six innings, gave up an unearned run, and yielded just three hits. He also got the win against Trenton in his first start of 2013 when he gave up three runs in five innings. He spent the majority of 2012 in New Hampshire , and posted a 7-3 record with a 4.84 ERA in 15 starts. In his only start against the B-Mets, he threw 5.2 innings and gave up one run to earn the win. He was drafted in the 19th round of the 2009 draft by the Blue Jays out of Sam Houston State.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT: After being promoted from St. Lucie, Jacob DeGrom was stellar in his Double-A debut. He gave up one run on three hits and struck out eight in eight full innings on the hill. His 8.0 innings pitched is a season high from Binghamton starters. Before being promoted to Binghamton, DeGrom was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts with St. Lucie.

SHUT OUT: The B-Mets were held scoreless for the first time all season in last night’s 1-0 defeat to Portland. This was the first time they have been shut out since 8/18/12 v RIC. In 2012, Binghamton was shut out 10 times.

MORE SOLID DEFENSE: Binghamton played their seventh game without an error in 2013. The B-Mets have committed the least amount of errors in the league (11), and five of them came 4/7 @ AKR. In games where Binghamton doesn’t make an error, they are 4-3.

CECILIANI ENDS SLUMP: After Darrell Ceciliani was hitless in his first six games at NYSEG Stadium this year, he went 2-for-4 with two singles in last night’s loss. This season he has a .186 batting average, and leads the B-Mets with four multi-hit games.

CHURCH STRONG OUT OF THE ‘PEN: In his last three outings in the bullpen, he has thrown 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball, and has given up only two hits. He struck out a season-high three hitters 4/15 vs POR, and struck out two more last night.
