LAST GAME: Major League rehabber Travis d’Arnaud launched a tie-breaking two-run homer in the third to power the Binghamton Mets to a 3-1 win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Sunday at NYSEG Stadium. Angel Cuan allowed one run over five innings to earn his first career Double-A victory. Kevin Plawecki notched his 22nd RBI in the month of May with a run-producing single in the first. Three B-Mets relievers combined for four shutout innings of relief. Cody Satterwhite struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to claim his second save of the season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Darin Gorski makes his team-leading ninth start of the season and first against the Rock Cats. Gorski suffered a loss in his most recent start versus the Sea Dogs on Tuesday, May 20 at Hadlock Field. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over five innings in a 2-1 B-Mets defeat. The loss snapped Gorski’s six-game unbeaten streak. The southpaw was selected in the 7th round of the 2009 draft by the Mets out of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
NEW BRITAIN STARTER: RHP Virgil Vasquez takes the hill for his sixth start of the season. The California native started on Thursday, May 22 against the Flying Squirrels. He tossed two scoreless innings before the game was suspended due to rain. Vasquez was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 draft by the Tigers out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has spent time in the Pirates, Rays and Angels organizations.
ON REHAB: New York Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud caught five innings on Sunday in his first rehab game with the B-Mets. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with a game-deciding two-run homer in the third inning.
HE MAY NEVER STOP: B-Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki hit .250 in April with three doubles. He collected three RBI and posted a .304 slugging percentage. The Indiana native has flipped the switch in May with a .388 batting average, eight doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI. Over 20 games, he’s compiled a .628 slugging percentage and hit safely in all but three contests.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Binghamton Mets collected their fifth-straight win at NYSEG Stadium on Sunday night. They have won seven of their last eight home games, kicking their record in Binghamton to 17-9, the second most victories in the Eastern League.
REYNOLDS’ STREAK SNAPPED: Matt Reynolds’ 11-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-for-2 night on Sunday. He hit .452 during the stretch.
SERIES WIN: Sunday’s victory secured Binghamton’s seventh series win of the season. They bid for their first four-game series sweep since they took all four against the Portland Sea Dogs at NYSEG Stadium in April 2012.
BULLPEN BOSSES: In the last nine games, the B-Mets bullpen has combined to allow just four runs over 24.0 innings. The bullpen has compiled a 1.50 ERA, struck out 28 and walked just four during the stretch. Three B-Mets relievers combined for four scoreless innings on Sunday.
SERIES FINALE SUCCESS: Excluding their one-game series versus Portland in April, the B-Mets have gone 10-3 in the final game of a series this season.
MONDAY BLUES: Binghamton is just 1-5 on Mondays this season, with their only win coming against the Sea Dogs in the first game of a doubleheader last week at Hadlock Field.
