2021 Draft - Mets Pick #5-142 - RHP - Christian Scott - UPDATE - New Info + Mack's spin

Christian Scott

RHP        6-4        180        Florida

Mack's spin -

Scott had a very impressive year for one of the top schools in baseball. He had to produce these kind of numbers against SEC teams all year.

I had him as the 19th RHP on my board and the top reliever as well.

A solid pick.

Hopefully, he will be the reliever that Ryley Gilliam never became.

2021 stat line - 26-appearances,

7-13-21 - Florida Rivals. - 4-2, 3.06, 1.04, 53-IP, 51-K, 9-BB

Scott was a key piece of the Gators' bullpen in 2021. The third-year righty led the team with 26 appearances and posted a 3.06 ERA over 53 innings of work. Scott finished with a 4-2 record while striking out 51 batters to just 9 walks. His .230 batting average against was second on the team to Jack Leftwich with pitchers who threw at least 20 innings.

Overall, Scott made 55 appearances including five starts over three seasons in Gainesville. During that time, he accumulated a 12-5 record to go with a 3.72 ERA and three saves. Scott struck out 111 batters over 121 career frames for the Gators.

The third-year sophomore had a solid campaign in 2021, appearing in 26 games while maintaining a 3.00 ERA and an impressive 1.02 WHIP over 53 innings, striking out 51 batters while walking just nine.

Ranked No. 90 in Baseball America's Preseason Top 100 2021 MLB Draft College Prospects list. Paced the Gators with 26 appearances (one start) on the mound. Finished with a 4-2 record, two saves, a 3.00 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP over 54 innings pitched. Struck out a career-high 51 batters on the season.

Christian Scott is a 2018 RHP/1B with a 6-4 177 lb. frame from Parkland, FL who attends Calvary Christian Academy. Long and lean athletic build, very projectable physically, high waist. Nice delivery with good tempo, 3/4's arm slot, deep arm action through the ball, works downhill well. Fastball up to 94, maintained velocity well and was working up to 94 the whole outing, gets good running life through the zone. Light change up with the proper slot and release and some fading action. Curveball and slider have tight spin and some sharpness, more slider oriented in the games. Has all the pitches to refine and is around the zone while working mostly arm side. Very projectable young pitcher with a very live arm

With a strong start to his season (2-2. 1.69 ERA, 37.1 IP, 26 H, 5 BB. 34 SO) the 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander has been climbing draft boards with the current buzz around the 4th-5th rounds. Against Tennessee the third-year sophomore made two appearances in the three-game set. On Friday his stuff was flat and off-location as he hit bats. The harder he threw it, the harder the Vols hit it. He was pegged with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in two innings pitched. However, Scott bounced back and earned the W on Sunday, allowing just one hit over 4.2 innings and striking out six. In both games he worked his fastball in the 93-95 mph range (2150-2250 rpm spin rate), but on average he threw with a half-tick higher velo on Sunday. He also tightened his breaking balls and mixed more low-80s sliders with his 85-87 mph cutter (2500-2600 rpm), as opposed to going mainly cutter on Friday. The pitches are very similar, but the slider has more angle/depth and movement. He also did a better job of locating the pitch down and away from his arm side. With a durable body type, a repeatable delivery, good arm action and a developing changeup (threw two in the low-80s) Scott has many traits that give him a chance to start at the pro level. In that regard he is similar to past Gators Dane Dunning and Shaun Anderson who were used mainly out of the bullpen during their junior draft season of 2016, but have been used mostly in starting roles during their pro career to date.

I will comment on today in morning post but I don't like the Mets draft this year.

Sort of the "let's pay Rocker love fest "

Scott K rate seems a little low. Let's get him signed and get him rolling.
