Mack's spin -
Okay... another starter and this one knows how to win a game.
You can't have enough hard throwing southpaws and hopefully our team of experts can get Nathan's ERA in check.
At worst, an affiliate rotation filler.
At best...

A stocky bodied lefty standing 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Lavender can pump it up to 92 with arm strength and high effort. He throws with more control than command and will show some feel to spin a mid-70s slurve. Although he missed the 2020 season with injury, he had a stellar freshman campaign in 2019 with 37 strikeouts in 28.2 IP out of the Illinois bullpen.
7-13-21 - daily illini -
In the 14th round with the 412th pick, the New York Mets selected Illinois pitcher Nathan Lavender. The Hudson, Illinois native achieved a 1-2 record with a 4.08 ERA and 37 strikeouts during his freshman year. After missing the 2020 shortened season with an injury, Lavender came back the next year and made his mark.
During the 2021 season, the left-handed pitcher played in 13 games as both a starter and reliever. In Lavender’s nine starts, he had a 7-2 record with a 4.11 ERA and 79 strikeouts, and he was the first Illinois pitcher to start a season off 5-0 since John Kravertz in 2015.
He picked up Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards at the end of the season while leading the Illini’s pitching staff in wins and strikeouts.
