Through Friday, Mark Vientos is lagging his two competitor counterparts, Baty and Mauricio, because Mark is missing the mark.
"The mark" being lower Ks.
This year and last in AAA, he has hit well enough - about .280/.365/.530 - but he has also fanned a far-too-high 138 times in 113 games.
He had a fine spring training - except he fanned 21 times in 58 plate appearances. And 12 times in 41 appearances with the Mets last year.
Too high.
More and more, I think he will be left back by the Mets, bypassed by Baty and Mauricio, until he fixes that problem.
Great power - he just needs better rate of contact.
Easier said than done? Seems so.
Someone needs to coach him better in that regard, somehow.
Because those major league hurlers?
Unlike AAA pitchers, they can REALLY strike guys out.

I have said for 2 years that Vientos' game is too one dimensional. Nothing I've seen since then has changed my mind here.
Trade chip? Pittsburgh? Part of a blockbuster for Ohtani?
Vientos is his own worst enemy. Not to be too harsh.
If you get all As and Bs in school, and one D, the D tells you that needs fixing. His Ks = a D. It is time for him to fix it , or just become a better version of Travis Taijeron.
I’d have to think the high K rate cuts his trade value by at least half.
Wilmer Flores is what he can be if he fixes the K issue.
In my book, yes.
No position,too many Ks. Can he hit 26-30 hrs and be a DH?

5 for 6 today, 2 doubles and a homerun, with only one strikeout. Guess he read our comments. He's a DH and can spell Alonso once and a while. We need him up
Look up mark Reynolds power and strike out numbers in majors and minors. Lots of power lots of strike outs. We can afford the tradeoff at the DHS position

Look, the Mets are having a lovefest for Francsico Alvarez. He clearly isn't ready quite yet, but will be in a bit after he plays more down in Syracuse.
The "Three Amigos" namely Brett Baty (now up thankfully), Ronnie Mauricio (a pure power bat who unlike the DH here now, can also hit for a really solid BA), and Mark Vientos who had a huge weekend.
So why not send Vogelbach and Escobar down with Alvarez?

This is a sterling opportunity for Jim and I think his is ready for this. Time always tell, but I'd bet on him doing really well. You see, there really isn't a reason for any of us to be crying in our beer over the 2023 NYM bullpen. It is in capable hands with multiple alternatives existing.
To me, it's just getting ready starter lefty Lucchesi, and then young lefty reliever Walker. Then, it will have it all.

I like taking the reasonable other risk, have some guts. I would instead save a bundle of hooplamia and get someone with ultimate promise who is younger.

Then you have more greatness in your rotate, and a longer future. It isn't always about "right now" and other teams big buck stars. To me, it's more about team building, aiming for a true dynasty.
