In Focus - Brandon Sproat - YESTERDAY

Thomas Nestico         @TJStats

Brandon Sproat fired off a decent outing in AAA today, tossing 4.0 IP with 1 ER

Sproat faced a LHH heavy lineup so he leaned heavily on his 4-Seam and changeup. He still is back to his upper 90s velocity, so that will be something to monitor

Mack  -

This was better.

Sure it was only four innings, and it did take 58 pitches (35 strikes) to get there, but Sproat only game up one run which will let him sleep well when he gets home.

I am a little concerned with the velo. His 4-seamer (28 thrown out of 62) averaged at 94.8. The sinker (8 out of 62) averaged 95.2. Not only was the velo down but the whiff rate was nothing to write about.

However,I’ll take it as a second start well before it warms up.

YESTERDAY -

Jesse Winker hit a tying two-run triple in the eighth inning and Francisco Lindor hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth as the New York Mets rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night.

The Mets were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position when Winker lofted a 1-2 knuckle curveball from left-hander Brendon Little to right field. The ball carried over the head of George Springer, who crashed into the wall face-first trying to field the ball as Lindor and Juan Soto scored to forge a 2-2 tie.

The St. Lucie Mets rallied back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Jupiter Hammerheads 6-5 in front of a crowd of 3,600 at Clover Park on Saturday night.

The Hammerheads jumped out to a 5-0 lead before making their second out. A couple of errors and walks started the Jupiter first inning rally and Jesus Hernandez hit a one-out, two-run single off reliever Cristofer Gomez to put the Hammerheads up 5-0. Hernandez’s single would be the final Jupiter hit of the game.

The Mets offense responded immediately with a four-run bottom of the first inning. Trace Willhoite ripped a two-run double and two batters later Trey Snyder belted a two-run homer, the first of his career, to make it a 5-4 game.

Mets pitching dominated innings 2-9. The combination of Gomez, Frank Elissalt, Hunter Hodges and Hoss Brewer combined for hitless baseball and 13 strikeouts over the final eight frames. The Mets totaled 16 strikeouts on the night.

Don't sleep on Ronald Hernandez, currently ranked as the Mets #27 prospect per Pipeline.

First full season in High-A. He's been a consistent hitter at every level since coming to the Mets in 2023.

With a dominant start from top prospect Brandon Sproat and their best offensive output of the season, the Syracuse Mets took down the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 7-4, on a blustery Saturday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.

After a scoreless first inning, the Syracuse (3-4) offense caught fire in the bottom of the second. After Luke Ritter walked and Gilberto Celestino doubled, Luis De Los Santos drove in the pair with a two-run double to the wall in right-center field to make it 2-0. The Mets grew their lead to 3-0 with an RBI single from Rowdey Jordan, his first career triple-A hit. With Jordan at second and Donovan Walton at first after a walk, José Azocar smacked a three-run homer to extend the Syracuse lead to 6-0.

Bases loaded for Jacob Reimer.  Bases cleared by Jacob Reimer.

Long Island's own Nick Roselli collects his first hit of the season - a two-RBI double

The hitters didn't get to have ALL the fun. Four Cyclones pitchers combined to strike out 15 Blue Rocks on Saturday afternoon's 15-1 win for the 'Clones.

Ernest Dove         @ernestdove

Could be the year that 3B Jacob Reimer re introduces himself to Mets minor league fans.

Dont look now Danny Young but Anthony Gose i believe now has 3 scoreless appearances to start his milb season for Syracuse Mets

Brooklyn Cyclones         @BKCyclones

Chris Suero gets Brooklyn back to even in the bottom of the first with this wind-aided double to score Jacob Reimer.

Ronald Hernandez chases home a pair with a two-RBI knock to give Brooklyn a 3-1 lead after one inning here at Maimonides Park.

Mets Analytics       @MetsAnalytics

Mets average bat speed vs. squared up rate this season.

Soto might be the bat control king of MLB

Pete has picked up bat speed vs last season’s 75.2 and is raking

Tiny sample, but Baty is swinger a faster bat and making better contact than last year

Torrens early

The Rhymer, Jack Reimer, is off to an explosive start. Watch out, sleeping Mark Vientos.

Mack Ade said...

Does Vientos have options?

He better because he sucks what happened? Yogi Berra: its getting late early. Wink man comes through and will we ever get better at hitting with runners in scoring position? I love the Yankees "hit lab" and I don't know if they even have one so you have to be the "judge" of that.

Mack Ade said...

Yanks... judge of that... you're starting to sound like Tom

Mauricio could replace Vientos.

Sproat just called me: his hypothermia from last night is now passed. Remember, he is a Florida lad.

Good morning all. Tom, thank you for all the content, and it’s good to see you commenting here this morning. Hope you stick around here with us in the cheap seats. Watching these guys (not) hitting and looking terrible most of the night, I was thinking that after 6 weeks in Florida, then opening the season indoors, and then back in Florida, and a mild day for the home opener, 44 degrees must’ve felt more like 20 degrees for these guys gripping a bat. I know… that’s what the money’s for, but still it’s hard to hit when your hands are freezing. So glad we re-signed Winker. Guy’s a professional hitter with a clutch gene and he belongs here.

I live in Central NY. It wasn't "blustery" here, it was miserable. 42 degrees, rainy and windy. NOT baseball weather
