Draft 14 – Trea Turner, Bryce Montes De Oca, Tyler Beede, Adam Plutko, Jack Flaherty

6-10-13 -  Trea Turner, SS, North Carolina State - Turner is the most dynamic player in the country.  He came to national attention with his great baserunning and speed, but has shown that there is much more to his game.  He should be one of the first players selected in 2014. LINK

6-13-13  -  29. Texas Rangers — Bryce Montes De Oca, RHP, Lawrence HS (MO) - This one is all about upside. At 6’-8” and 265 pounds, the right-hander can run his fastball up to 95 mph with ease. Add in the fact that it his release point is probably halfway to home plate, it is near impossible to pick it up as a hitter. His secondary stuff is still developing and he is still learning to pitch but it’s hard to pass on a kid with his size and arm strength. LINK

6-17-13  -  2. Tyler Beede, RHP, Vanderbilt - Perkin said Beede (6-foot-4, 215), who declined to sign after Toronto drafted him in the first round in 2011, may benefit like Stanford's Mark Appel, the No. 1 overall pick last week whose stock improved after being drafted previously and turning down first-round money. Beede is "a smooth righty with top of the rotation stuff," Perkin said, noting "a 90-to-94 mph fastball that peaks at 95, a harsh 78-to-80 curve and a fall-off-the-table 82-to-84 changeup." LINK

Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG  @KendallRogersPG: Adam Plutko wins most valuable player .... Deserved! UCLA

6-26-13  -  The Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News both pegged Jack Flaherty as their All-Area Player of the Year. Just this week, Cal-Hi Sports selected Flaherty as its state player of the year, marking one of the few times in the publication's long history that it has chosen a junior as the state's top player. This week, MaxPreps names Flaherty as its National Player of the Year, beating out such talented seniors as Clint Frazier of Loganville (Ga.), Rob Kaminsky of St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) and Tyler Danish of Durant (Plant City, Fla.). Draft 13 – Adam Plutko, Brian Navarreto, Kris Bryant, Mark Appel, Akeem Bostick

Adam Plutko, RHP, UCLA - Over his last three starts, the 6’-3” right-hander has tossed 21 scoreless innings, allowing just eight hits. He has also struck out 22 to eight walks over that span. Over 10 starts, he now has a 2.34 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 53 K/18 BB over 65.1 innings. He features an 88-92 mph fastball, a low-80s change that looks plus at times and an upper-70s curveball with nice tailing action.  link

Brian Navarreto, Arlington Country Day HS (FL) - Playing for the same high school as Cubs top prospect Javier Baez, the 6’-4”, 220-pound Navarreto also shares the same fiery personality. A very good defensive catcher, Navarreto has a lot of offensive potential due to his size. He has a very strong, accurate arm with a quick release and has great footwork behind the plate due to his above-average athleticism — he has been clocked at 6.88 in the 60. He hit .512 as a junior with 16 doubles and 12 home runs, showing raw power from the right side. Not as polished as Okey or Martinez, he may have the higher ceiling of the two, but there may be some make up concerns as he recently punched a player in the face during a bench-clearing brawl. Committed to Jacksonville. link

With each retelling, the tale of Kris Bryant’s mammoth home run becomes more Ruthian and Bunyanesque. The ball either cleared the 80-foot light tower in left field at the University of San Diego’s Fowler Park, or was at least even with them before sailing deep into the drizzly, foggy night, probably landing on the football practice field down the hill. Whether it went 500 or 600 feet depends, again, on who was speaking. link

Mark Appel (RHP, Stanford University) - Information: 6’5″, 215 pounds, turns 22 in July, previously selected 1st round (8th overall) by Pirates in 2012 and 15th round by Tigers in 2009. 2013 Stats: 7-3, 1.49 ERA, 10.6 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, and 4 CG in 10 starts and 78.2 IP = Scouting Overview: Appel took a huge risk last summer, declining $3.8MM from the Pittsburgh Pirates after they selected him 8th overall to return to Stanford for his senior season. Appel had been a favorite to go first overall to the Astros last year, but they had instead decided on shortstop Carlos Correa, sending Appel into free-fall thanks to his bonus demands. Bud Selig finally called his name when the Pirates’ selection came around, but Appel refused to accept anything less than the $4.8MM Correa received and he could not agree to terms with Pittsburgh link

Akeem Bostick has plenty of options when it comes to the next step in his athletic career.  The West Florence pitcher draws a large number of Major League scouts every time he takes the hill for the Knights.  With the MLB Amateur Draft coming up this June, Bostick has all the bases covered when it comes to options.  Bostick is expected to be a high selection in the draft link

Draft 13 – Rob Kaminsky, Akeem Bostick, Bobby Wahl, Mark Appel, Adam Plutko

Rob Kaminsky, St. Joseph HS (NJ) - Kaminsky hasn’t had a lot of opportunities this season to show off what he can do — such is the life of a baseball player in the northeast. He has, however, made the best of his three starts, including tossing a no-hitter on April 2, the seventh of his career. He now has 38 strikeouts and has allowed just five hits over 19 innings. He features a low/mid-90s fastball and a plus curveball that some have called the best they have ever seen at the prep level. He also adds an upper-70s change-up that has plus potential. He has a lot of deception in his delivery, which is a testament to his seven no-hitters.  link

Akeem Bostick is a 6’5 185lb RHP from South Carolina. He plays for West Florence as not only a baseball player but as a top WR as well. Here’s a rather unique fun fact he’s also committed to 2 schools Georgia Southern the former home of recent 2012 Draftee Victor Roache of the Brewers and Spartenburg Methodist College which would be a Junior College. Why more prospects don’t do this is beyond me personally and I’m sure there’s a very logical reason to do it and not to do it but for me to have every single door available come draft day is a great idea. He can go to school for 1 year or get a degree from Southern as well as play football and baseball. It’s a great negotiation tactic come draft day and all business aside it really does offer you the chance to take any avenue you feel is best which is always what I’d recommend. link

RHP Bobby Wahl w/ a great outing, striking out eight, allowing 3 H in a CG shutout road win over Tennessee

RHP Mark Appel struck out six, walked two and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 6 2/3 IP in a 4-3 win over Arizona

UCLA RHP Adam Plutko struck out eight and tossed seven shutout innings on the road in a 1-0 win over Oregon. Pretty impressive outing.

2013 Draft-Notes - Jeremy Wei, Michael Kornacker, Adam Plutko, GLSCL

Jeremy Wei, RHP, Westerville South HS, Class of 2013 - 6-foot-5, 205-pound right-handed pitching prospect. Shows quick arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Shows some effort to his delivery. With his size and arm speed, he shows some projectability. His fastball sits at 83-84 mph. His curveball stays at 66-67 mph with gradual 11/5 break. Shows good command and depth to the pitch. Changeup sits at 75 mph and also uses a 71-73 mph cutter. http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/OH/Player-Analysis-from-Ohio-Top-Prospect-Showcase-on-717-8621950347#.UBVav60DlGI.twitter

2013 RHP Drew Moyer up to 90 mph for the Diamond Devils in their first game of PG Tourney

Michael Kornacker, RHP/2B, St. Laurence HS - Kornacker is an athletically built 6-foot-4, 180-pound athlete who has the potential to be a legitimate two-way player at the next level. Just as he does at St. Laurence HS, Kornacker will showcase his middle infield and pitching abilities for Team Illinois at the Midwest Future Games this weekend at the University of Illinois. Kornacker, who is currently ranked No. 5 in Illinois' Class of 2014, has been a big-time run producer for St. Laurence since his freshman year. Playing against the best competition in the state, Kornacker batted .383 as a freshman and earned second-team Chicago Catholic Blue Conference honors while playing a solid second base.  -  more… http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/IL/Midwest-Future-Games-Spotlight-Michael-Kornacker-3064759821#.UBhgjwMRIWc.twitter

Player:  Adam Plutko -  Position:  RHP    School:  UCLA   Date of Birth:  10/3/1991   Height/Weight:  6’3/195   Bats/Throws:  R/R   2013 Class:  Junior   Previously Drafted:  2010, 6th Rd, Houston  Scouting Report: I may have heard as wide a range of opinions on Adam Plutko as any other 2013 draft prospect… much more… http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2012/07/31/2013-mlb-draft-profile-adam-plutko/

A five-run second inning gave the Licking County Settlers a 5-2 lead over the Lake Erie Monarchs and they never looked back, winning 10-4 to move on to the next round of the playoffs, a best of three series against the Lima Locos. Lake Erie had the first lead of the game when David Vandercook crossed home on an Eric Jacobson sacrifice fly to center. Tim Quiery followed that up with an RBI double to bring around Austin Williams for a brief 2-0 lead. http://www.collegesummerbaseball.net/2012/08/settlers-top-monarchs-10-4-move-on-to.html

2013 Draft-Notes – Adam Plutko, Zach Stoner, Nick Dalesandro

On the less spectacular side, UCLA right-hander Adam Plutko really struggled to command anything, and the mechanics have digressed since his prep days. I thought Plutko would be a potential first-rounder when he chose school in 2010, but that decision doesn’t seem to have paid off at this point. - http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2012/07/thoughts-from-the-prospect-classic/

1B: Zach Stoner, Rockford Boylan HS - The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Stoner possessed perhaps the state’s purest left-handed swing. His athleticism and ability to hit for power from the left side led him to being selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. Stoner signed shortly after the draft, foregoing his scholarship to Southern Illinois University. http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/IL/PBR-2012-All-State-Teams-released-2356974108#.T_fCBkz4LU0.twitter

Perfect Game USA‏ - Chris Oakley (NJ) dominant 5 innings tonight. 10 K's 0 ER's and up to 94 mph. Robert Tyler (GA) also up to 94 in the game

Once again, Nick Dalesandro heads a talented group of prospects in the Class of 2015 updated and expanded rankings. Dalesandro made an impact as a freshman for Joliet Catholic Academy in many different capacities. He excels in several different positions, but on the mound he has a chance to be special. After Dalesandro, the list of prospects isn’t from the typical powerhouse programs. In fact, players hail from schools that have never had a ranked prospect in eight years.  For example, Westmont SS/RHP Charlie Donovan, who is the No. 2-ranked prospect, and Elmwood Park RHP Joe Uvelli, who is the No. 3-ranked player. http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/IL/Updated-Class-of-2015-Player-Rankings-3625198704#.T_sRieMhcYM.twitter

Chad Whitmer, RHP Penn HS (IN), commits to Southern Illinois

Royals Sign 16-Year-Old Venezuelan Pitchers Julio Pinto, Junior Reyes

Kendal Rogers - LHP Carlos Rodon K'ed 4 and allowed 3 R in 6 IP for USABaseball in Cuba win… UNC 2013 commit Wood Myers and LSU 2013 commit Jake Fraley having great weeks... UCLA 2013 commit and rising RHP Dustin Driver, topped out at 93 on Monday for the Marucci Elite squad. Very good-looking arm…

Bobby Wahl‏ - What an experience it's been in Cuba. I'll remember it for the rest of my life! Had an amazing stay! Back 2 America in the AM

Peter Gammons‏ - The hyperbole of college junior pitchers saying they'll go back to school rather than accept $3-4M sounds like the hum of an air conditioner
