Cory Brownsten:
4-12 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/big-east-players-of-the-week-11 - Pittsburgh senior catcher Cory Brownsten was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after a dominant week at and behind the plate. Brownsten hit .562 (9-for-16) with one triple, one double, seven RBI and five runs scored in four games for the Panthers last week. In the BIG EAST series win over No. 9/7 Louisville, the senior hit .583 (7-for-12), including a 3-for-4 clip with three RBI in the finale on April 11. The catcher was also flawless on the field, boasting a 1.000 fielding percentage over the four-game week. In his second season at Pittsburgh, this marks Brownsten’s first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.
Logan Verrett:
4-12 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/phillips-66-big-12-baseball-weekly-awards-3 - Logan Verrett (Baylor) has been selected the Pitcher of the Week for games of April 5-11. PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Logan Verrett, Baylor, RHP, So., 6-2, 180, Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen - Verrett turned in one of the best performances in Baylor Ballpark history with a complete-game four-hitter against Texas A&M on Saturday. He posted 13 strikeouts, a venue record. Each of the last 12 strikeouts were swinging, and he issued just two walks. Verrett surrendered just two hits through the first seven innings, and did not allow a runner to advance past second base until consecutive doubles in the eighth ended his shutout bid. He finished the game as strong as he started, striking out the first two and the last two batters of the game. Verrett’s 13 strikeouts were the most by a Bear hurler in a regular season game since Jason Jennings struck out 14 against Kansas in 1999. The Corpus Christi, Texas-righty retired at least one batter in every inning but the eighth, yet never struck out the side. Verrett pitched a full two innings longer than his previous career best of 7.0 innings, helping to save the BU bullpen for Sunday’s series finale.
Laurn Randell:
4-12 from: http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/southland-conference-players-of-the-week-7 - Texas State outfielder Laurn Randell has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week. Randell led Texas State’s offensive attack this weekend, batting .733 in four games and helping Texas State to a 3-1 week. The senior from Austin, Texas (McCallum), went 1-for-4 at Baylor, but shined in the Bobcats’ three-game sweep of Central Arkansas. He went 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs in the opening game of the series and fell a double shy of the cycle because he stretched out his second triple on the day. Randell also notched his first home run of the season in the 14-2 run-rule win to be named Hitter of the Day in Baseball America’s Around the Nation Blog. Randell remained perfect at the plate reaching base each time, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. He closed out the series with a 3-for-4 effort, including his third homer of the series. Against the Bears, Randell batted .909 with a 2.091 slugging percentage and a .938 on-base percentage, while adding one outfield assist and a pair of stolen bases.
Jonathan Dziedzic:
4-12 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/southland-conference-players-of-the-week-7 - Lamar left-handed pitcher Jonathan Dziedzic has been named one of the Southland Co-Pitchers of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Dziedzic struck out a career-high 13 batters in a 9-2 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday. The previous high for the freshman from Humble, Texas (Atascocita), was 10 against North Dakota State on Feb. 27. Before turning the reins over the Cardinal bullpen for the final inning, he struck out the side in the eighth inning. He allowed six hits and only one of the two runs he allowed was earned. Dziedzic is now 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA this season. He improved his season strikeout total to 59, third best in the Southland.
Mike Denhardt
4-12 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/acc-players-of-the-week-21 - Boston College’s Mike Dennhardt (2011) earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Boston College’s Dennhardt threw the first complete game shutout of his career in the Eagles’ series opener against Maryland on Saturday. Dennhardt was dominant on the mound in the first game of a doubleheader, scattering six hits and striking out five while walking two as Boston College posted a 4-0 victory. Dennhardt, a sophomore from Oradell, N.J., threw 108 pitches on the day and 76 of them were strikes. Dennhardt finished the game strong, retiring 12 of the last 13 batters – including 10 in a row – from the sixth to ninth innings.
