Ex-Mets: - Octavio Dotel, Ivan Maldonado, Salomon Manriquez, Karim Garcia... and Scott Kazmir

Octavio Dotel:

See a theme with the early NL Waiver players emerging? Dotel, like Madson and Lindstrom, is a currently under owned closer, at least according to Yahoo, where he's only owned in 44 percent of leagues. Dotel landed with an ideal team in terms of where he could provide the most fantasy value when he signed with the Pirates to be their end-game stopper. The key to Dotel's success this year, other than remaining in Pittsburgh where he can close all year, is going to be maintaining a tolerable BB/9, ideally at or under 4.00. Dotel has always been a FB pitcher with an elite K/9, so if he's able to limit the free passes, and with it the damage inflicted when some of his FB's leave the yard, he can be a top-20 closer this year. If he's able to get lucky with his HR/FB rate, he may be able to even crack the top 15 closers this season. The biggest concern for Dotel owners should be that the Pirates flip him for prospects at the deadline. Otherwise, Dotel is a relatively safe closer option who is vastly undervalued and underowned. - hardballtimes

Ivan Maldonado:

The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of pitcher Ivan Maldonado.Maldonado joins the flock having played eight seasons of professional baseball. The 29-year old spent last season in the Mexican League, posting a 2-2 record and a 4.26 ERA in 17 appearances. During the previous seven seasons, he was a member of the New York Mets organization, reaching as high as Triple-A New Orleans in 2008 and 2009. The right-hander’s best season came in 2006 with Double-A Binghamton. In a career-high 48 games, he compiled a 2.51 ERA along with three saves and 57 strikeouts in 61 innings. For his career, the New York native has a 25-23 record with a 4.46 ERA in 377 and one-third innings pitched. Maldonado was originally drafted by the Mets in the 18th round of the 2002 amateur entry draft. -

Salomon Manriquez:

The York Revolution inked former major league catcher Salomon Manriquez. Manriquez was an Atlantic League All-Star last season after batting .311 for the Newark Bears. His average finished sixth best in the league, tops among catchers, and stood as high as .367 on July 12. In addition to serving as the Bears’ starting catcher, Manriquez saw time at first base, left field, right field, and designated hitter. He had spent the previous three seasons at Double-A with the Nationals, Rangers, and Mets, and was signed after attending the Revs’ open tryout on Saturday, April 3.

Karim Garcia:

Karim Garcia provided the other bit of fireworks, going 7 for 7 with one homerun, six RBIs and two stolen bases, but it wasn’t enough for his Lotte Giants to get a win. The Hanhwa Eagles beat them 15-14 in 12 innings. There were a total of 51 hits in the game.  -

Scott Kazmir:

Scott Kazmir (shoulder) is tentatively scheduled to make his 2010 major league debut Thursday against the Yankees. Kazmir went 6 1/3 innings in a rehab start Friday at Single-A. "He came out really strong and he feels good today," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia. "He'll throw a bullpen in a couple of days and depending on that, he should be OK to start in New York." The lefty is worthy of ownership in most leagues. - rotoworld
