After losing to the Indians behind a six run tenth inning last night, the Herd fell again to the Indians in extras by losing 7-3 at Coca-Cola Field in 12 innings. The Indians scored their four runs off of Bisons pitcher Adam Pettyjohn after no team was able to score on Pettyjohn in the previous seven games. The loss now drops the Herd's record to 4-4 in games that go beyond nine innings...
After Bisons starting pitcher Tobi Stoner got through the following three innings with ease following the first, he ran into some trouble in the sixth. A leadoff single from second baseman Jim Negrych and Pearce reaching base on a throwing error from Mike Cervenak put Stoner in a jam.
Third baseman Brian Myrow singled to drive home Negrych and center fielder Brandon Moss singled to right to send Pearce home to make the score 3-1. Stoner then walked shortstop Argenis Diaz to load the bases. After Stoner loaded the base paths he was taken out of the game and relieved by Mike O'Connor. O'Connor got the Herd out of the inning by striking up the next two batters to end the inning. Stoner provided the Herd with a solid start in his five and a third innings of work. Through those innings Stoner gave up seven hits and three runs, two of them being earned. The starter also struck out seven, his second highest total for the season. Stoner got it done at the plate as well. In the fifth the right hander singled to third and was driven home by a single from shortstop Justin Turner.
BISONS NOTES: After going 3-5 during their eight game home stand, the Herd will hit the road for the next eight games. They will head to Gwinnett for a four game series with the Braves and follow it up with another four game set against the Charlotte Knights. The Bisons will have Dylan Owen start off the road trip when he takes on Braves pitcher Tim Gustafson (6-4, 5.30 ERA) tomorrow night.
