Area players with no college eligibility left — West Florida Tech/UWF graduate Kevin Johnson (20th round, Los Angeles Angels), Tate/South Alabama graduate Brandon Brown (22nd round, New York Mets) and Tate/Mississippi State grad Jet Butler (26th round, Mets) have all signed.
Johnson, a right-handed pitcher, has been in Arizona at the Angels' extended spring training since Saturday and will be sent to Orem, Utah, to play on the Angels' advanced rookie league club on Friday.
"It's been a blast, just meeting all kinds of different guys," said Johnson, who threw the first no-hitter in UWF history this past season. "We're all just having fun, hanging out."
According to Seibert, Butler has reported to Brooklyn and will begin playing second base with the Cyclones in the New York-Penn League. Brown is in Port St. Lucie for three days of training before heading to Kingsport, Tenn., to play shortstop in the Appalachian League.
