Top 114 RHP in 2011 Draft - 8-19 Revised Rankings

1. Gerrit Cole – UCLA – 6-4, 220, summer 2009: played for USA team: 4-0, 1.06, 46-G, 34.0-IP… .104 OBA…

11-1-9: www.baseballamerica.com: rated the number one prospect on the US National team

1-9-10 from www.jjscouting.com: - Gerrit Cole: This 6-4 220 right-handed pitcher from UCLA has already made a big impact on the baseball world. Already being a first round pick by the Yankees in 2008, Cole should have repeated success in 2011, only having his name called a lot earlier in the first round. With a heavy fastball around the low-to-mid 90's, reaching the upper 90's and good secondary pitches, Cole should have a nice follow up year to his freshman year, in which he went 4-8. But don't let his record fool you, as UCLA had a down year as a team last year, but Cole's other stats were great. Posting a 3.49 ERA while striking out 104 and only walking 38 in 85 innings last spring helped propel him to Team USA. Once getting down to North Carolina with the team, Cole didn't slow up, goign 4-0 with a 1.06 ERA, striking out 46 and walking 10 in 34 innings. And one of the most impressive stats from his summer ball, might have been the opponents batting average, hitting a meager .106.

3/8 from: http://baseballdraftreport.com - SO RHP Gerrit Cole (UCLA) and SO RHP Trevor Bauer (UCLA) were both awesome this weekend against Nebraska. How awesome? So glad you asked. Cole put up the following line: 7 IP 2 H 1 ER 0 BB 9 K; Bauer’s numbers looked more like this: 6.2 IP 6 H 1 ER 2 BB 10 K. Just like last week, however, I’m as excited about a little thing that occurred in Cole’s start than I am about the entirety of his performance. Well, that may actually be a stretch, but I was impressed by his fourth inning showing all the same:

3-9-10 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/03/09/uclas-cole-gets-2010-usa-baseball-team-trials-invite - – Sophomore right-hander Gerrit Cole has been invited to the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Trials, as announced Monday by USA Baseball. Cole went 4-0 with a 1.06 ERA for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in the summer of 2009. Cole has gone 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA through three starts this season, collecting 26 strikeouts and two walks in 18.0 innings. The native of Santa Ana, Calif., has limited the opposition to a .117 batting average in three games. In UCLA baseball history, only two Bruins – Troy Glaus (1995-96) and Josh Karp (1999-2000) – have competed for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in multiple years. Last summer, Cole led the Team USA in strikeouts (46) and innings pitched (34.0) en route to leading the USA National Team to the 2009 World Baseball Challenge Championship in Prince George, British Columbia (Canada).

3-13-10 from: http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/03/13/foleys-friday-thoughts: - There was also two more great pitching lines on Friday evening with Gerrit Cole dominating Texas AM Corpus-Christi and Mario Hollands beating Northern Illinois. Cole pitched 7.2 innings while allowing only five hits and giving up two runs (one earned) while striking out 15 batters as the UCLA Bruins picked up a 11-3 victory.

2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - Gerrit Cole at this point is the cream of the 2011 draft crop, rivaled only by Rendon as the favorite to go first overall. His stuff is comparable to that of Verlander’s from the ’04 draft, as is his inconsistent command at a similar stage in their careers.

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP Gerrit Cole (UCLA) throws in the upper 90s and has led a surprising UCLA team, ranked No. 2, to a 23-2 record thus far. Despite some recent control problems, Cole is 6-0, 2.49 with 61 K’s in 43 innings.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - Gerrit Cole, UCLA, 2.92 FIP, 11.63 K/9, 4.17 BB/9. - The diamond of this class is Cole, which probably kills Yankees fans after he spurned the Bombers in the 2008 draft. Cole appeared to have a deal after New York took him in the first round, but he had a late change of heart, and wanted to experience college. UCLA head coach John Savage is also one of the renowned pitching instructors in the nation. Cole has made significant strides under Savage to get his fastball under command and to add a changeup to an arsenal good enough to succeed with two pitches. He’s regularly 95-97 mph, touches 99 often, and has shown occasionally plus movement in the past. His slider is inconsistently fantastic, and at 85-87 mph, it’s coming at a hitter hard.

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Gerrit Cole, UCLA, 6'4 215, saw as an OF in 2008 during TOS, then saw a start and he was up to 94 that day with raw mechanics and is talked about being in top 5 for 2011.

6-14-10 from: - http://prospectinsider.com/360mock.php - 2011 Mock Draft - 3 Seattle Gerrit Cole, RHP -- UCLA

6-14-10: Named to 3rd Team NCBWA 2010 All-America Team - Gerrit Cole – 10-3, 3.25

6-15-10 from: - http://www.deepleagues.com/?p=1830 – 2011 Mock Draft - 3. Houston Astros Gerrit Cole P, UCLA

6-22 from: - http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/MLB_Draft#ixzz0rbHx9KkjThrough six innings tonight, UCLA's Gerrit Cole was nigh unhittable against TCU. Mixing a 97-mph sinking fastball with a hellish slider averaging 87 to 88, Cole induced popup after popup and struck out nine Horned Frogs. Cole got out of the seventh and worked a scoreless eighth before leaving after 122 pitches (79 strikes). He finished with 13 strikeouts. The eight innings matched his season high. –

7-3 from: - http://milbprospects.blogspot.com/2010/07/early-version-of-top-50-prospects-for.html - Top 50 - 3 Gerrit Cole , RHP , UCLA

7-4 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_trialroster_07042010.html - Cole listed at a powerful 6-4/220 … Cole runs his fastball up to 98 mph, sitting 94-97, and backs it up with a mid-80s slider, upper-80s cutter and mid-80s straight change. On the season, Cole finished tied for 5th overall among D-I arms with 138 total strikeouts through regional play (he finished the season in Omaha with 154 total SO), and 12th overall with 11.50 SO/9. Owning some of the best pure stuff in college baseball, the UCLA ace still struggles with command and falls into bouts of wildness, resulting in a 4.08 BB/9.

http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=3 - Gerritt Cole threw almost 2 IP yesterday and he was on his game as far as late life on fb, up to 97 a few pitches, dropped his angle slot a few times and got very good movement, I have not seen him do that before. Clubs need to watch the number of pitches this guy throws the rest of the year with the work load he's coming off of and will continue to have through the fall and next spring, this guy will be in the top 5 taken in the 1st round barring any unforeseen circumstances.

7-22 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/21/gerrit-cole-leads-team-usa-to-4-1-win-over-japan - Gerrit Cole (UCLA) worked six innings allowing one run and striking out seven as Team USA defeated Japan 4-1 Wednesday night at Rosenblatt Stadium in a friendly international game. With the win the Collegiate National Team (CNT) improves to 8-0 on the summer. Cole (1-0) was impressive from the outset retiring nine of his first 10 batters with three strikeouts and allowed just one extra base hit on

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Gerrit Cole - RHSP So. Univ. of Calif. - Los Angeles - Trials Notes: Cole was only scheduled to throw one inning over the trials -- the first inning on Sunday's concluding scrimmage -- but after setting down the first three batters he faced in fewer than ten pitches, he was instructed to "stay out there and throw to a few more." Though he wasn't at his peak velocity, the big UCLA ace still dialed up to a few 95 and 96 mph fastballs, and showed an 85 and 86 mph slider. He has the best pure power stuff on the staff, with only Sonny Gray coming close to matching his killer FB/SL combo. He also shows some feel for an upper-80s change-up and will mix in a cut fastball a few mphs faster than his slider with similar angle but later, tighter bite.

7-25: - www.fanhouse.com: - Fanhouse Top 70 Prospects - 3. Gerrit Cole, RHP, UCLA

7-28 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/27/team-usa-defeats-chinese-taipei-6-3 - The Collegiate National Team (CNT) snap its two-game skid against Chinese-Taipei Tuesday with a 6-3 victory at Hsinchuang Field. Gerrit Cole (UCLA) posted his second win of the season after working a pre-determined four innings. Cole (2-0) allowed one run (unearned) on two hits with four punch outs and a pair of walks. Matt Barnes (Connecticut) also went four frames surrendering two runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Cal State Fullerton’s Noe Ramirez notched his team-leading fourth save tossing a perfect ninth with a strikeout.

2. Sonny Gray

1-9-10 from www.jjscouting.com: - Sonny Gray: Sonny Gray is a competitor out of the University of Vanderbilt. By scouts standards Gray would be "undersized", standing at 5'11, but that doesn't matter, as he goes out there an competes. The right-handed pitcher was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 27th round and slipped so far due to such a strong commitment to Vanderbilt. If not, Gray wouldn't have lasted past the second round in 2008, most likely not even past the first round. Like Cole, Sonny had a strong freshman campaign, with which he followed it up with a superb summer circuit. At Vanderbilt, he went 5-1 with a 4.30 ERA, recording 5 saves and striking out 72 and walking only 20 in 58 2/3 innings. Not impressing you? Gray then went on to do equally great things with Team USA, going 3-1 in 24 innnings pitched, with a miniscual .75 ERA, averaging 1 strike out an inning and only walking 8. Another elite pitcher, that will have his name called early come 2011.

2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - While Cole possesses the best pure arm in the nation in any class, Vanderbilt sophomore teammates Sonny Gray and Jack Armstrong, also teammates on the 2007 Aflac All-American team, offer a more intimidating one-two punch. Gray’s arm may rival Cole’s, even though Gray continues to be scrutinized for his less than ideal 5-foot-11 frame. He, too, lights up radar guns and offers an equally neutralizing breaking pitch. He joined Cole on the Team USA squad last summer, where both may return this coming summer to help cement their status as premium, first-round picks for the following year’s draft.

5-29-10 from: - http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/MLB_Draft - Sonny Gray is like most top pitching prospects who have played for Vanderbilt in recent years, but also very different. A sophomore righty who is eligible for the 2011 draft, Gray has the same sort of drive and work ethic as the four Commodore hurlers -- Jeremy Sowers, David Price, Casey Weathers and Mike Minor -- drafted in the first round since 2004. But the main difference is in his arm -- his fastball can hit 95 mph. “We’ve had some good armed right-handers, but maybe not quite at that level,” Vanderbilt pitching coach Derek Johnson said. At first glance, Gray does not look like a power pitcher. He stands 5-11, weighs 195 pounds and has a youthful visage. But on the mound, he works his fastball from 92-95 mph to both sides of the plate, and keeps hitters off balance with a curveball and a changeup

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - RHSP - The rest of the top tier: I have to start with Vanderbilt ace Sonny Gray (3.28 FIP), who is just a tick behind Cole, Purke and Jungmann, mostly due to the bias about his slight build. But Gray is just as consistently 93-96, and his power curveball is more developed than either of the right-handers ranked ahead of him. Due to the 5-11 build and lack of a third pitch, though, some have Gray earmarked for the bullpen …

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Sonny Gray, Vanderbilt, 5'9 180, quick quick arm, will run it up there, from 90-94, occasionally 95-96, he has to keep the ball in on RHH and down and away. Breaking ball explodes when he's in rhythym, other times very readable. Competes and wants it!!

7-4 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_trialroster_07042010.html - Gray is a mere 5-11/195, but the power arsenal each boasts is equally impressive... Gray sits 93-96 mph with his fastball, pairing it with a second plus offering in his low-80s slider, which can climb as high as 85 mph. His off-speed is an 80-82 change with some depth. Gray racked-up 113 SO in 108.7 IP and a 9.65 SO/9, good for 21st and 68th overall, respectively, through conference tournament play. The primary knock on the Commodore power arm is his smallish frame, which leads some to believe he will ultimately land in the pen. His quality arsenal could play out of the rotation or pen with Team USA, and he logged innings in both capacities last summer.

July 7, 2010 - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100707&content_id=12054480&vkey=news_usab&gid= - Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) toed the rubber for the Blue to start the contest working 3 2/3 innings where he allowed two runs (both earned) on three this with four punch outs and two strikeouts.

Gray (1-0) retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced issuing a walk to the third batter of the game on is way to a nine-strikeout performance

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Sonny Gray RHSP So. Vanderbilt Univ.- Trials Notes: Gray was one of two of the 39 players at the Trials that I did not get to see in person, as he threw right before my arrival and did not throw a second time. Word from other evaluators was that Gray was his "usual self", and I can give you some notes on what I consider to be his "usual self", based on my viewings this Spring and last Summer with the USA CNT. Gray is generally 93-96 with a lively fastball and mixes-in a low-80s slider that flashes plus with hard late action and good tilt. His off-speed is inconsistent, vacillating between below average to a tick above. He gets fade and some drop, but can sometimes slow his arm speed -- the velo delta between his CH and FB can range from 14 to 9 mph. The biggest "knock" on Gray is his size, or more accurately his height. While the Vandy ace stands sub-6-foot, he has a strong build and is put together well. He throws with some effort, but his arm action is solid and he repeats well. Detractors place him in the pen as pro, but he will almost certainly log significant time in a rotation to begin his Minor League career, either way. Only Cole has better raw stuff on the squad.

7-30-10 from: - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100730&content_id=12802124&vkey=recap_usab - Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) struck out a career-best 14 batters setting a new USA FISU single-game record as the Collegiate National Team (CNT) used the 15-run rule after five innings to record its first win at the V FISU World University Championships Friday afternoon over Sri Lanka, 15-0 at Utsumi Shimaoka Ball Park. Gray was unhittable through 3 1/3 inning retiring 10 in a row, nine by strikeout, before Theekshana Gammanpila singled down the right field line on a ball that hit first base and popped over the head of Nick Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton). In all the right-hander allowed just two runners to reach base, one was on a wild pitch strikeout) and faced two over the minimum through five innings (17 hitters) notching his second win of the summer tour. With his 14-strikeout performance, Gray also tied a CNT single-game record for punch outs joining Jason Jennings (7/1/98) and B.J. Wallace (7/20/02) in the record books.

8-5 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/08/05/team-usa-defeats-japan-to-advance-to-fisu-championship-game/#more-28750 - Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) scattered three hits over seven innings as USA defeated host team Japan 4-2 in semi-final action at the V FISU World University Baseball Championships inside Yokohama Stadium Thursday night. With the win, USA (16-2) will make its fourth-straight appearance in the FISU gold medal game when they square off against Cuba on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 5 a.m. (EST). Gray, who improved to 3-0 on the summer, allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six to push his summer total to 37 punch outs. The right-hander surrendered a run in each of the first two innings before settling down where he allowed just four base runners of the next five innings, two of those reaching second base.

8-6-10 from: - http://projectprospect.com/article/2010/08/05/summer-college-baseball-update - Perhaps the best performance this summer belongs to Vanderbilt righty Sonny Gray (pictured above). Spending his summer with Team USA, Gray stood tall in a very deep group of hurlers for the Collegiate National Team. Through just 17 innings so far, Gray has yet to allow a run, or an extra base hit for that matter. He has struck out 31 of the 58 batters he's faced (53.4%) while walking two. Gray gets knocked some for his size - he's listed at 6-feet tall, which seems rather generous - but has a mid-90's fastball and devastating curveball to go along with a usable changeup. Gray generates a lot of power from a small frame, and the effort in his delivery is obvious. Effort in a delivery is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it's controlled. Gray's motion is fairly efficient, save for his late hand break. Gray removes the ball from his glove a little late in his delivery which causes a timing problem. However, Gray's raw stuff as well as his production match up with anyone in the 2011 draft class. His upside is as a true ace, with a reasonable downside of a high-leverage reliever.

8-12 from: - http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=11729 - The U.S. embarrassed Sri Lanka 15-0 before the mercy rule was instituted in the fifth inning. Sonny Gray struck out 14 of Sri Lanka’s 17 batters, allowing only one hit and surrendering no walks. In his second start, Gray shut down Japan’s national team, scattering two runs (one earned), three hits and two walks over seven innings. This is characteristic of Gray, who ties for the team lead with three wins, leads the team with 37 strikeouts, 0.50 WHIP and an ERA of 0.38. Even by comparison to his nearly equally dominant teammates (10 of the 11 pitchers have earned run averages under 2.70, and over half allow less than a run per nine innings) Gray has been the team ace.

3. Taylor Jungmann

1-9-10 from www.jjscouting.com: - Taylor Jungmann: A right-handed pitcher from the University of Texas, Jungmann is not used to losing. In his four years of varsity baseball during high school, he complied 4 total losses and continued the trend into the spring semester of his freshman year. The 6'6 195 Longhorn complied a line of 11-3, 2.00 era, 101 K, 35 BB in 94 2/3 innings. This led him to becoming a Louisville Slugger Pre-season All-American for the upcoming 2010 season. With his mid 90's fastball, Taylor is sure to improve his previous draft status, 24th round by the Angels in 2008, and become one of the elite pitchers in the 2011 draft class

2-11-10 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - Staying on the theme of tall, projectable power arms, Texas’ Taylor Jungmann had a freshman season matched by few in the nation. On a loaded Longhorns’ staff, Jungmann may be good enough to earn Friday starting honors this coming year. He led Texas in both wins (11) and ERA (2.00) a year ago, and has a rare combination of size, stuff and command.

3/8 from: http://baseballdraftreport.com - As good as Wall was, SO RHP Taylor Jungmann of Texas was just a little bit better. And I really mean just a little bit, as the two pitchers put up startlingly similar lines. Jungmann got one more out (pitching 7.2 innings), allowed one less hit and one less run, walked one better less, and, just to keep up the theme here, actually threw one more total pitch (115 to 114). To add on to the craziness, each pitcher threw exactly 65 strikes. Weird night. Anyway, Jungmann’s final line: 7.2 IP 4 H 1 ER 2 BB 8 K

3-15-10 from http://pnrscouting.com/rankings_2010_houstoncollegeclassic.html - Top 10 Players (2011 Draft Class) - Taylor Jungmann, RHP, Univ. of Texas - Explosive offerings out of an easy arm action and packaged in a durable, projectable frame; low-90s fastball, low-80s power curve and a filthy change with breaking ball caliber depth to the arm-side produced a neat line of 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB and 8 SO while facing just four over the minimum.

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP Taylor Jungmann (Texas) survived an outing at Texas Tech with gusting 50 mph winds, and has posted a 3-1, 2.94 record with 61 K’s in 49 innings. His raw stuff is just a small notch behind Cole’s.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - Taylor Jungmann, Texas, 3.79 FIP, 9.78 K/9, 3.20 BB/9 - While Gerrit Cole is the best pitcher in this draft class, it would have been unfair to sink Jungmann into the article, as he’s a likely top ten overall pick next year, too. There was a great article detailing Jungmann’s arsenal at Prospect Insider this spring: 92-96 mph with the fastball (he’s touched 99 in the past), power 80 mph breaking ball, and a developing “screw-change”. He has the perfect pitcher’s build, and under Augie Garrido at Texas, the best experience that three years in college can buy.

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Taylor Jungmann, Texas, 6'6 200, rangy and smooth, starting to wear down a bit down the stretch, but showed 95 fb against Neb on a windy day this early spring, also two breaking balls with varying velocity that are solid out pitches.

6-14-10: Named to 3rd Team NCBWA 2010 All-America Team - Taylor Jungmann – 8-3, 2.03

http://diamondscapescouting.com/articles_aflacallamerican2010_10playerstowatch_08152010.html - RHP, Broken Arrow HS (Okl.) -- Bradley is one of the more imposing arms on the slate at Aflac, standing at 6-4/215 and producing easy low-90s fastball velocity. His breaker is a hard low-80s offering with tight spin, which he throws with confidence. Like Derek "Bubba" Starling (who participated in Under Armour's All-America Game this weekend), much of the excitement surrounding Bradley stems from the fact that his attention has been divided between baseball and football, and big growth could come in short order should he decide to focus on the mound. Also like Starling, the talented Oklahoma two-sport standout is highly touted as a quarterback -- he'll be playing college ball (baseball and football) in-state should he forgo professional baseball next summer.

8-18-10 from: - http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-2010-aflac-all-american-baseball-classic - The only other pitcher to work more than a single inning, right-hander Archie Bradley (Broken Arrow, Okla.), retired the side in order in the fifth and sixth, fanning four in the process. Bradley, who has committed to play football (quarterback) and baseball at Oklahoma, featured a fastball in the low-90s and didn't allow any solid contact.

7-27-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=98 - Dillon Maples, 3B/RHP, Pinecrest (NC) HS - I’m going to buck “the word on the street” and say Maples is a better hitting/third base prospect than pitching. Granted, I probably watched Maples’ worst outing on day one of the Tournament of Stars, but I think his athleticism comes out much better at the hot corner than it does on the mound. Maples has arm-strength, but a stiff delivery and on that day he was very wild. Maples has a position player’s body, an aggressively powerful righthanded bat, and a chance to become a big league starting 3B in my estimation. Not many low-mid-90s guys get moved off the mound, but I’d at least consider it with Maples.

http://diamondscapescouting.com/articles_aflacallamerican2010_10playerstowatch_08152010.html - RHP, Pinecrest HS (N.C.) -- Maples shows low-90s velocity with his fastball and was clocked as high as 95 mph earlier this summer. He has a small arm circle and quick release, causing the ball to jump at hitters -- a formidable hurdle considering the already plus velocity. Maples's best secondary offering may be his mid-70s curve that comes with two-plane action. He'll also drop a low-80s off-speed. Though there is not a ton of physical projection left, some clean-up with his motion that could potentially lead to more velo. Committed to UNC.

7. Trevor Bauer – UCLA – 2009: 9-3, 2.99, 92-K, 105.1-IP

12-20-09: named to 3rd team 2010 NCBWA AA team

1-9-10 from www.jjscouting.com: - Trevor Bauer: The youngest player on the collegiate side of things, Bauer is entering his sophomore year as a 19 year old pitcher. Graduating high school early to play for UCLA, like Levi Michael did with UNC, Bauer showed no nerves of pitching against the older competition. Compiling a 9-3 mark with a 2.99 ERA, Bauer did a lot of work pitching in 105 1/3 innings, recording 92 k's and only 27 walks, while also picking up 2 saves. His performance his freshman year resulted in the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year Award by the Collegegiate Baseball Newspaper. Like Gray and Cole, the 6'1 175 RHP took his game to Team USA this past summer, where his numbers were good in his 17 innings of work.

2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - Fellow ’11 draft-eligible righty Trevor Bauer will follow Cole in the weekend rotation this spring at UCLA, and while he doesn’t throw as hard, he sits in the low-90s and offers better command and overall repertoire. Those two, along with junior lefty Rob Rasmussen, form one of the better weekend rotations in the nation.

3-14-10 from http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/03/14/quick-thoughts-from-saturday/#more-24380 - Trevor Bauer of UCLA picked up where Gerrit Cole left off on Friday night by striking out 15 batters on Saturday against Mississippi State in eight innings. Bauer’s record improves to 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched.

3-21 from: - http://www.uclabruins.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/032010aac.html - The No. 12 UCLA baseball team improved its record to 15-0 by defeating Oral Roberts, 12-2, in the second contest of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Right-hander Trevor Bauer (2011) improved to 4-0, limiting the visiting Golden Eagles to one run and five hits in eight innings. Bauer struck out nine and walked just one in helping UCLA extend its win streak to 15 games, the program's longest win streak on record. The Bruins are off to its best start in any season in the modern era (dating to 1955).

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP Trevor Bauer (UCLA): Cole and potential 2010 first-rounders Dan Klein and Rob Rasmussen seem to get most of the attention at UCLA, but the 6-1, 175-pound Bauer could well be the team’s best pitcher in terms of his combination of stuff and pitchability. The amazing thing is that Bauer skipped his senior year in high school and should just be a freshman now. He’s 5-1, 2.28 this spring with 59 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 45 innings.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - I’ll just go ahead and quote Baseball America’s West Coast scout Dave Perkin, who filed the most recent scouting report on UCLA second fiddle Trevor Bauer: “He fires an explosive 92-94 fastball, adds an excellent 81-82 change, and sprinkles in a 76 curve now and then. Bauer’s best pitch is his 84 slider, already a plus big league pitch and a portion of his arsenal that is blatantly unfair to college hitters.” I can speak to the strength of his change-up after a televised start earlier this spring.

-

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP Matt Barnes (Connecticut): The 6-4, 205-pound Barnes could well find himself lumped with righthanders like Cole and Jungmann over the next year. He has excellent command of mid-90s type stuff and has been overmatching hitters all spring (5-0, 2.10, 34 IP/6 BB/35 K).

5-10 -10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/10/big-east-players-of-the-week-13/#more-26203 - Connecticut righthanded pitcher Matt Barnes and West Virginia third baseman Grant Buckner are the winners of the BIG EAST’s weekly baseball honors for the week-ending May 9.Barnes threw the first complete-game shutout of his career in a 14-0 win against Cincinnati on May 8, improving to 7-0 on the season. He allowed two hits and struck out eight batters, while walking one against 29 batters faced. Against BIG EAST opponents this season, the righthander owns a 2.17 ERA, ranking second in the conference. Overall, Barnes holds an ERA of 2.49 with a team-high 64 strikeouts. This is his first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor.

6-28 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/06/27/anthony-ranaudo-matt-barnes-dazzle-but-should-sox-pay-ranaudo - Results don't always match the stuff and vice versa, but in this particular case there was no discrepancy. Barnes was filthy from the very first pitch of the game. He worked at 93-96 mph with his fastball, reaching 97 twice on my gun. For most of the game, he was steadily at 94-95 mph. And, while his secondary stuff was certainly there, it was his fastball that really set the tone. It showed big, late life and bored up and in on right-handed hitters all night long. Share When he was getting ahead in the count, his fastball was close to unhittable up and out of the zone. On top of that exploding fastball, the bad news for hitters was that he had his secondary pitches working as well. While his secondary pitches do not grade as highly as his fastball, he was able to consistently spot his breaking ball both for strikes and down out of the zone when he needed to. He threw some of his breaking balls at 74-77 mph with more of a curveball break, but more effective for him, was a harder, sharper two-plane breaking ball with a slider break at 78-81 mph. Barnes showed the ability to throw both breaking balls to the front door and back door to righty hitters, and coming off his plus fastball, there were a lot of paralyzed hitters taking called third strikes. Couple that with the quality changeup he flashed at 83-85 mph, an easy delivery and, at least to me, this is a top-15 talent heading into the 2011 draft.

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Matt Barnes - RHSP So. Univ. of Connecticut - Trials Notes: Barnes backed-up his early-Cape performance with two solid outings over the Trials week. His arm action is a little on the long side -- getting the ball out early and hooks it behind him, showing it to first -- but he repeats his slot fairly well and generates plus velocity through excellent arm speed (that arm speed also helps him to keep a solid tempo and clean release. His fastball is a low-90s offering that he can get downhill out of his 3/4 slot and he commands it fairly well. Barnes shows a true curve with solid bite and depth and a slider with solid late action and some tilt. Both are potential average or better offerings, and his change-up could end-up the best of his secondaries, coming with some deception and good fade. The Huskies righty gets good extension and does an admirable job repeating his slot with each of his four offerings and is a potential 1st Round arm in next year's draft if he continues to progress through the Summer/Spring.

7-25: - www.fanhouse.com: - Fanhouse Top 70 Prospects - 5. Matt Barnes, RHP, UConn

8-4 from: - link - Matt Barnes, RHP, UConn/Wareham. Barnes was one of the few premium college arms in this draft class to play on the Cape, spending two weeks there before heading to the Team USA trials. He'll hit 96 mph and work just below it with three off-speed pitches, including a potential out pitch in his curve and an improving changeup. His arm works well out front, and he showed the ability to get hitters out with his fastball. He's in the discussion with Sonny Gray and Gerrit Cole as the top college pitcher in the 2011 draft.

8-6-10 from: - link - Matt Barnes has also showed very well this summer. After striking out just 21.8% of batters faced for the Huskies, Barnes K'ed 25.3% in the Cape and 37.7% for Team USA. The 6-foot-4 right-hander, features an outstanding fastball that sits 93-95 MPH with tremendous sink. While his curveball and changeup have flashed potential, Barnes' off-speed stuff is still behind his outstanding fastball. If he shows improvement with the off-speed stuff, as some scouts believe he will, he could be one of the first college arms taken next June.

I like pitchers to show dominance and I didn't see that here. Pure arm strength though, yes!

8-11-10 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com - Dylan Davis (Redmond, WA), threw 92-94 in his only inning of work. His heater was the fastest of the evening. It appeared as if he only threw one other pitch, a short slider that Baseball America tabs at 83-84. The smallish righthander, generously listed at 6-0, 200 pounds, gave up two runs (one earned) on Thursday but bounced back to toss two scoreless innings on Sunday. An Aflac selection, Davis has committed to Oregon State.

8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - 3. Dylan Davis, rhp, Redmond (Wash.) HS - Strong and compact at 6 feet and 200 pounds, Davis does not have a projectable frame but he does possess a power arm. He hammers the strike zone with a 92-94 mph fastball and his raw velocity was second only to Giolito. “Davis has very good velo,” Saberhagen said. “He needs to spot his fastball better. He got hit a little bit in one game because he left the fastball up and out over the plate.”

8-13-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=122 - RHP Dylan Davis is a power armed 6'0" right-hander and he once again showed his 92-94 mph heater. What was different today was that he showed and effectively used both a slider (80-81 mph) and a curveball (75 mph). I didn't see those pitches the other day and thought he was a one trick pony. Davis' slider has a chance to be a plus future pitch and grades out pretty close to average (MLB) already, with small tight late break and good spin. His curveball also had good spin.

11-17-9 from www.collegebaseballblog.com: - named the 64th top college player for the 2010 season.

4-12-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/phillips-66-big-12-baseball-weekly-awards-3 - Logan Verrett (Baylor) has been selected the Pitcher of the Week for games of April 5-11. PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Logan Verrett, Baylor, RHP, So., 6-2, 180, Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen - Verrett turned in one of the best performances in Baylor Ballpark history with a complete-game four-hitter against Texas A&M on Saturday. He posted 13 strikeouts, a venue record. Each of the last 12 strikeouts were swinging, and he issued just two walks. Verrett surrendered just two hits through the first seven innings, and did not allow a runner to advance past second base until consecutive doubles in the eighth ended his shutout bid. He finished the game as strong as he started, striking out the first two and the last two batters of the game. Verrett’s 13 strikeouts were the most by a Bear hurler in a regular season game since Jason Jennings struck out 14 against Kansas in 1999. The Corpus Christi, Texas-righty retired at least one batter in every inning but the eighth, yet never struck out the side. Verrett pitched a full two innings longer than his previous career best of 7.0 innings, helping to save the BU bullpen for Sunday’s series finale.

7-3 from: - http://www.rightfieldfog.com - •Chatham’s Logan Verrett (Baylor) was on a pitch count last night, but if he hadn’t been, we might have had the second no-hitter in three days. As it was, Verrett pitched seven innings of no-hit ball before giving way to the bullpen. He struck out four and got the win as Chatham topped Hyannis 5-1.

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • Logan Verrett, RHP, Baylor -- Verrett has gotten rave reviews from scouts thus far on the Cape but it was a struggle for him on Wednesday night. He struggled with his command and topped out at just 91 mph with his fastball. His arm works well and he has an athletic frame so I believe there's a lot more there than he showed on this night. He also mixed in a changeup at 77-79 but mostly was forced to use his fastball as he consistently worked from behind in the count. Although he showed good two-seam life on the fastball he was consistently missing in the middle of the plate.

15. Alex Meyer - Kentucky

2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - Alex Meyer – RHP – Kentucky - Now listed at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, Meyer has the size and stuff that could draw comparisons to Jeff Niemann. Meyer has always thrown hard, and has the body size and looseness in his arm to maintain his velocity deep into ballgames. He was challenged as a freshman by being immediately inserted into the Wildcats’ weekend starting staff, and that experience should allow him to take a significant step forward this year.

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - Not every college player in the 2011 draft class has performed to expectations this spring. Here are five that may need to pick up their pace to preserve their high standing: - RHP Alex Meyer (Kentucky): As PG scout/writer Pat Ebert wrote about earlier this week (http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2243) Meyer still has top-half-of-the-first-round stuff. He’s a late bloomer who is still growing into his 6-9, 220-pound body, but scouts will be looking increasingly for improved performance (4-2, 7.64, 65 base runners in 35 IP) before June 2011.

4-14-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/14/alex-meyer-out-for-3-4-weeks/#more-25386 - Kentucky standout sophomore right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will be out for an estimated three to four weeks, it was announced by UK head coach Gary Henderson Wednesday morning. A 6-foot-9, 220-pounder, Meyer leads the team with 52 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched, functioning as UK’s Sunday starter throughout the season. A native of Greensburg, Ind., Meyer (4-2, 7.30 ERA) has made eight starts and appeared in nine games for UK in 2010. Over his two-year career, Meyer has struck out 132 in 100.1 innings, allowing 99 hits.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - No one will beat Kentucky’s Alex “Bubba” Meyer (4.28 FIP) in the size department, weighing in at 6-foot-9 and at least 220 pounds. But Meyer was a mess this season (7.06 ERA, 6.35 BB/9), an Anthony Ranaudo-like season. However, given his size and a fastball that touches 97 (better raw stuff than Ranaudo), it won’t take much to get him in the first round next year …

Ramirez tossed eight innings in the 8-0 victory against the Broncos. He allowed just one hit in the last six innings, a two-out double in the seventh. Ramirez threw just 93 pitches, 72 for strikes, and fanned 11 batters. He faced just three men over the minimum before yielding to the bullpen in the ninth inning. Ramirez won his third straight decision and lowered his ERA to 2.84. He has not lost in his last nine starts, winning eight of them

7-15 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/14/team-usa-defeats-korea-3-0-with-a-combined-no-hitter - The sophomore pitching trio of Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt), Kyle Winkler (Texas Christian) and Noe Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton) struck out 13 batters and combined to toss a no-hitter in the Collegiate National Teams 3-0 win Wednesday night over Korea. Noe Ramirez shut the door on the Korean’s picking up the save after striking out the side in the ninth.

7-18 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/7/17/1574115/all-questions-answered#comments - As for Ramirez, he’s the type of guy that projects best as a #3/4 starter because of relatively solid stuff rather than above-average stuff. If he adds some strength, he could go in the middle of the first round, but he’s more of a late first to supplemental first round arm to me.

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Noe Ramirez RHSP So. Calif. St. Univ. - Fullerton - Trials Notes: Noe Ramirez lacks high-end velocity but thus far has made-up for it with good deception and solid command of three quality offerings. He has a thin lean build and doesn't project to add a great deal more mass as he matures, and his arm angle is a 3/4 to low-3/4 slot. Ramirez utilizes a drop and drive delivery with some coil in his core, keeping the ball well hidden and helping his below-average velocity to jump on hitters. He was mid- to upper-80s with good late run and some bore with his heater and generally commanded it effectively. His slider was upper-70s with solid shape and worked well as a freeze pitch, coming out of the same slot as the fastball. Ramirez also dropped several impressive change-ups that showed some fade and tumble. His raw stuff doesn't match-up with the likes of Cole, Barnes, Gray and Winkler, but he is comfortable with all three offerings and mixes them effectively. He could be valuable as a multi-inning reliever or spot starter as needed.

17. Jack Armstrong, Jr.

1-9-10 from www.jjscouting.com: - Jack Armstrong Jr.: Gray's teammate at Vanderbilt, Armstrong didn't pitch much this past spring, only 7 2/3 innings, but did record 8 strikeouts. Then this past summer, as a member of the Wareham Gatemen of the CCBL, Jack went 4-1 wit ha 2.57 ERA, averaging almost a strikeout an inning and only walking 18 in 35 innings pitched. While filling out his 6'6 frame since high school, now up to 226lbs, Armstrong has seen his velocity jump, now sitting consistantly in the low 90's and found himself pitching in Fenway, as a member of the Cape Cod All Star team. Look for Armstrong to get more innings this year and for him to prove himself as a top of the line prospect.

Stature isn’t a problem for the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Armstrong, whose stuff began to catch up with his size last summer on the Cape. Armstrong impresses me the most in that his command is what caught my attention the most the first time I was able to see him pitch, and at that point in time he topped out in the upper-80s. Now throwing in the mid-to-upper 90s, he looks to carry his success from the Cape to his sophomore campaign, and if that success continues he could push his name into the discussion for the first overall pick in 2011.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - Baseball America ranked Jack Armstrong (4.88 FIP) as the best from his draft class in the Cape Cod League last year, but he failed to build on the momentum this spring. But Ross is an impressive athlete with good hands and fluid defensive actions to go with a smooth righthanded swing. Ross’s 6’3”, 180 lb frame looks like it belongs wherever you want to put it in just about any sport. His loose arm and low-90s fastball are inviting, but I’d at least keep an eye on him as a hitter going into his senior year.

8-16-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#storyjump - Hudson Boyd, RHP, Bishop Verot HS (Fla.) - Committed to Florida, Boyd is physically maxed at six-foot-two and 235 pounds. But, he’s just as powerful as his frame suggests. His fastball sat consistently at a very heavy 92-93 mph with very good command of the pitch and a sharp 11-5 slider that he likes to back door lefties with that sat at 79-81. Boyd also showed a good feel for an 80-83 mph change-up, as well. With two above-average pitches and a good feel for a change as well as overall command, Boyd is without a doubt one of the most polished pitchers in the 2011 high school ranks.

8-16-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=130 - Hudson Boyd, RHP, Bishop Verot HS (FL)- Boyd worked the bottom half of the first inning. He has the makings of three potential plus pitches. His fastball sat 92-93, and he has good command on his power curve. He caught John David Crowe Jr. looking at his curve to end the inning.

20. Tyler Beede - RHP Lawrence Academy Auburn MA

6-25 from: - http://www.baseballrumormill.com - The Tournament of Stars - a showcase event for USA Baseball held every June in North Carolina - is designed to be a forum to compile an 18-and-under team to represent the United States in the IBAF 18U World Championships this July. Keith Law from espn.com recently filed two reports from the event. Here are some highlights from Keith's reports. - •RHP Tyler Beede and LHP Phillip Pfeifer are both first round material, but could be hard to pull away from their Vanderbilt commitment. The pitchers are a contrast in style with Pfeiffer being raw, but with potential and Beede being the more polished of the pair.

His change-up flashes above-average with fade and dive, sitting in the 78-79 range and coming with solid arm speed. Beede's breaker is a mid-70s downer curve with solid shape. He can bury the pitch or use it as a freeze pitch after setting it up with the fastball. He could be a tough sign come next summer considering his strong commitment to Vanderbilt.

21. Kyle Winkler -

1-7-10: invited to join Team USA in July 10 - Kyle Winkler-RHP-TCU - This is the second invite for Winkler as he participated in the 2009 trials last summer. Winkler completed a successful freshman season, tying for the team lead with seven victories. In 17 appearances, he made 14 starts and posted a 7-1 record to go along with a 4.15 ERA. In 73 2/3 innings pitched, the righty tallied 48 strikeouts. He was named to the Mountain West Conference All-Tournament team and the Fort Worth All-Regional Team. TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle on Winkler: “This is a great honor for Kyle and our program,” Schlossnagle said. “Representing your country is one of the greatest honors one can receive in amateur baseball and Kyle was very close to making the team last year. I’m sure he will represent TCU at the highest level when the trials begin this summer.”

3-15-10 from http://pnrscouting.com/rankings_2010_houstoncollegeclassic.html - Top 10 Players (2011 Draft Class) - Kyle Winkler, RHP, Texas Christian Univ. - Yet another potential Day 1 arm, Winkler mixed a low-90s fastball with a low-80s change and a mid-70s downer curve; biggest problem area continues to be control and command over the course of his starts, allowing more to reach by walk than by hit (5:4) over his 6.1 IP.

5-24-10 from: - http://www.themwc.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/052410aab.html - TCU sophomore Kyle Winkler have been named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week. Winkler, a native of Sugar Land, Texas, tossed seven scoreless innings in helping TCU to a 12-0 non-conference shutout of Cal State Bakersfield last Friday. The sophomore righthander fanned seven batters without a walk and surrendered just four hits, only one of which went for extra bases. He retired 18 of the last 19 batters he faced, including the final 10.

7-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/10/team-usa-collegiate-national-team-trials-game-4-recap - Kyle Winkler (Texas Christian), Madison Boer (Oregon) and Nick Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton) combined to throw a one-hitter as the Red team took Game 4 of the Collegiate National Team (CNT) Trials in easy fashion Friday night 7-1 at the National Training Complex (NTC). Winkler picked up the win after tossing three perfect innings with three punch outs, while Boer fanned three over two innings of hitless work.

Winkler relieved Gray in the seventh retiring six of the seven batters he faced.

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Kyle Winkler RHSP So. Texas Christian Univ. - Trials Notes: Winkler matched the fastball velocity he showed down in Houston at the College Classic this past March, regularly ranging 90-92 mph, with several 93s and one evaluator registering a 94. The biggest improvement from the Spring, however, has been with his breaking ball, which has climbed into the mid-80s and hitting as high as 88 mph on Friday. It boasts very hard, late break and works well as both a freeze/backdoor pitch or as a chase offering. Most impressive is his ability to set it up with his fastball, working down against lefties and then burying the slider and working up-in against righties and freezing them with a slider on the inside half. His change-up has climbed a little, as well, to the 82-84 mph range, as opposed to 80-82 in March, but Winkler is still feeling for it. He throws from a high-3/4 slot, getting downhill on his fastball and tilt on his slider (which can get close to a "downer" at times). He looks to have added some strength in his trunk and core over the last few months, though some will still label him a future reliever given his listed sub-6-foot height. Winkler has a solid build with a repeatable motion -- he could be equally effective as a starter or power arm in the pen for Team USA, and will likely slot-in behind Purke in a solid TCU weekend rotation next Spring.

22. Scott McGlouth:

http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=3 - RHP, Scott McGlouth, Oregon, Jr to be, 6'1 185, crafty pitcher with know how, 87-93, mostly 90 some arm side run and plus control, command at times got away from him with breaking ball, true cb and also cutter, funny how a few kids went from Pennsylvania out to Oregon since the Ducks restarted their program? That amazes me, as did this righty who has better days ahead for sure. Very quick and easy arm.

7-16-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/16/team-usa-defeats-korea-8-1 - Scott McGough (Oregon) struck out nine batters in five innings of work as the Collegiate National Team took game two of the five-game international friendly series against Korea, 8-1 Thursday night. McGough and Team USA’s pitching staff held Korea to just two hits while striking out 13 total batters.

7-25: - www.fanhouse.com: - Fanhouse Top 70 Prospects - 23. Scott McGough, RHP, Oregon

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Scott McGough - RHRP So. Univ. of Oregon - Trials Notes: McGough is one of two "true" relievers on the squad and should log significant innings at the back-end of the pen. The Oregon reliever was 88-90 mph, touching 92, and struggled some to hit his spots. He also threw an upper-70s slider that broke 80 mph with some tilt. The bite on the slide piece was inconsistent, though McGough showed a high level of comfort with the pitch and was willing to throw it in various situations. He throws with a slight shoulder tug that can affect the consistency of his release, which may be the culprit in his spotty fastball command and inconsistent bite on the slider. While he is quick enough to home (1.22-1.34) to make stealing a challenge, he can also become preoccupied with baserunners at the expense of his focus at the plate.

23. John Stilson –

3-18 from: - www.rivals.com: - John Stilson is a name to remember the rest of the season. The Texas A&M right-hander pitcher is off to a start most pitchers can dream about. In eight appearances for the Aggies, Stilson has struck out 34, walked six and has a 0.81 ERA in 22 1/3 innings of work. The righty also has limited opposing teams to a .087 batting average. But not until last weekend’s series against Washington State did Stilson allow a run… In a recent outing against Washington State, Stilson kept his fastball between 95-98 and also approached hitters with an 81-82 MPH slider and a curveball and change in the mid-to-upper 70s.

3-21 from: - http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2218 - While I knew junior RHP Barrett Loux was starting for the Aggies, my hope was that I would get to see hard throwing sophomore RHP John Stilson out of the bullpen. As sometimes happens, things worked out perfectly. Loux pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, striking out 10 Tech hitters (his third straight double figure strikeout game, giving him 48 K’s in only 27 innings) before leaving after throwing 104 pitches. He raised his record to 3-1 on the season with an outstanding 1.29 ERA.

Stilson then came in from the bullpen and threw the final 3 1/3 innings, striking out five more Tech hitters. The 6-3, 190 lb transfer from Texarkana JC is establishing himself as perhaps the most dominant pitcher in college baseball this spring. Stilson is now 4-0, 1.04 with 3 saves. In 25 innings he’s allowed only 8 hits and 7 walks while striking out 39 hitters.

John Stilson: This is the first year that Stilson has concentrated primarily on pitching, although he has still started three games at shortstop for the Aggies. He was a three-sport star in high school in Texarkana, TX, and was the starting shortstop for Texarkana JC last year while also going 12-1, 2.44 on the mound. He was drafted by the Twins in the 19th round of the 2009 draft. Stilson’s delivery, to put it mildly, makes you want to say “Wow…that interesting”. It’s high energy with a pretty severe head jerk and lots of recoil after release. I think the only way that Stilson can get away with it and repeat it well enough to throw strikes is that he is such a good athlete. Of course, all hitters are seeing are arms and legs flying around and it has to be very deceptive. Stilson’s stuff, also to put it mildly, makes you want to say “Wow….that’s awesome”. He sat between 94 and 98 mph and it wasn’t your normal straight high velocity fastball. It had some arm side running action and when Stilson threw to his glove side the ball just ran away from right handed hitters. Stilson’s 83 mph slider was twisty and inconsistent, although it flashed some bite and to his credit he tried a couple of change ups, which wasn’t a pitch he looked too comfortable throwing by looking at his body language after he threw the ball. Stilson will definitely need work developing a true slider, something that he could probably throw in the upper 80’s, but his deception and sheer velocity are enough to overmatch most hitters. The 2011 class is pretty loaded with top half of the first round talent but Stilson’s name certainly belongs in that company.

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP John Stilson (Texas A&M): Stilson created some late-spring draft buzz last year while at Texarkana (Texas) JC, but playing shortstop when not pitching kept his raw stuff from reaching the premium area. That’s changed this spring and Stilson has overwhelmed hitters (6-0, 0.96, 4 SV, 58 K’s in 37 IP) with his mid- to upper-90s heat and deceptive delivery.

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - Relief Pitcher - Best Player: John Stilson, Texas A&M, 2.53 FIP, 12.99 K/9, 2.62 BB/9. The 2.53 FIP doesn’t really do it justice, as Stilson had a 0.80 ERA in 79 innings with the Aggies, striking out 114 batters. A junior college transfer, Stilson went from pitching in the low-90s in junior college, to regularly throwing 97-99 mph in the Aggies bullpen. He has a knockout slider, and relentlessly attacks hitters. We didn’t see a reliever taken in the first round this year, but in 2011, we might see one taken in the top ten picks.

8-11-10 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com - In the final game of the day, Robert Stephenson (Alhambra, Martinez, CA) led the Brewers White to a 6-1 victory over the Reds. The 6-2, 185-pound righthander struck out six batters without allowing a walk or run in three innings. The Aflac All-American was popping his fastball in the low 90s in one of the more impressive outings of the day.

8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - Robert Stephenson, rhp, Alhambra HS, Martinez, Calif. - Several scouts voiced concern over Stephenson’s near maximum effort delivery. His stuff, however, is of high quality. A projectable 6-foot-2, 185-pounder, Stephenson relies heavily on his 90-92 mph fastball, which peaks near 94. That pitch shows late jumping life as it reaches the strike zone. Stephenson adds a 77 curve and 74 change, both of which show promise but need to be sharpened.

8-12-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=117 - Right-hander and Aflac All-American Robert Stephenson (6'2" 185) from Alhambra HS-Martinez (CA) started the game and went three scoreless innings. 7-27-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=98 - Ricardo Jacquez, RHP/SS, El Paso Franklin (TX) HS - Jacquez is only 5’9”, but I see an especially quick arm and project him as a reliever. Super-athletic with a fluid arm-action, Jacquez can deliver in the low-90s for a couple innings and has the makings of a knockout big league slider. Jacquez’s athleticism comes through at shortstop and he may have the tools to play there all the way up, but he’s “only” an average runner and the bat is not nearly as superlative.

7-27-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/27/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-players-to-watch - Tony Zych (Louisville)- He is having a solid summer without receiving a decision, but has picked up nine saves in 13 relief appearances. He has held opponents to a .203 average while having an ERA of 1.10. He has struck out 24 batters in 16.1 innings of work. Tony struggled this past season with Louisville going 5-2 with a 5.13 ERA in 59.2 innings of work. He spent the summer of 2009 with the USA Collegiate National Team where he was 0-1 with a 2.93 ERA in six bullpen appearances.

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • Tony Zych, RHP, Louisville -- Clearly the best raw arm in the All-Star Game, Zych showcased an explosive 95-98 mph fastball from the right side. There is an obvious caveat with Zych, however. His arm action and violent delivery is enough to make even a casual observer cringe. So you have to be willing to take a leap of faith that he can stay healthy and durable. But with his harder 86-87 mph slider and that dominant fastball, he fits quite neatly into the big league closer profile.

8-13-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/08/12/louisvilles-tony-zych-named-top-reliever-and-pro-prospect-in-ccbl - Right-handed pitcher Tony Zych (Louisville) was Bourne’s go-to closer all season, and last week he was recognized for his performance. Zych was presented the Russ Ford Award as the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Outstanding Relief Pitcher and also earned the Robert A. McNeece Award as the Outstanding Pro Prospect, two of the most prestigious honors the league has to offer. The sophomore allowed only two runs in 20.1 innings this summer for a 0.89 ERA, recording 12 saves, while striking out 29 and walking just four. He pitched a shutout inning at the Cape League All-Star game.

8-2 from: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=4921 - Aflac All-American RHP John Magliozzi retired the Royals in the bottom of the 5th inning as the Yankees retained their 2-1 lead. Magliozzi pitched in the 90-94 mph range with his fastball with his customary deceptive 80 mph change up. Magliozzi tends to lower his release point a bit on his change up but it is a very effective pitch with very good late life down in the zone. The diminutive right hander still needs work on a soft curveball.

John Maggliozzi, rhp, Dexter HS, Milton, Mass. - Somewhat undersized at 5 foot 11 and 185 pounds, Maggliozzi still fires a hard low 90’s fastball that peaks at 93. “He is a little guy, but he has a chance to be a very special little guy—kind of like Tim Hudson," the scout said. "I saw him in Florida recently and he seems to be throwing with more effort out here. Still, the arm works very well.”

31. Austin Dicharry:

32. Mark Pope:

6-18 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/6/17/1523259/summer-league-roundup-week-1 - the outing of the week so far easily goes to Georgia Tech's Mark Pope, a 2011 name that could sneak into the back end of the first round next June. Pitching for Falmouth on the Cape, he threw 7 shutout innings on Tuesday, as well, scattering just a pair of singles and a single walk, striking out 11 in the process. Pope kicked Brandon Cumpton out of a weekend rotation spot late in the year and pitched very, very well, and I think he's the front-runner for Tech's Friday job next spring over Jed Bradley. He has a solid-average 90-92 mph fastball most of the time, but he has an above-average to plus slider and a quality changeup, so it looks like he's starting to break out a bit. If these outings continue, he could be next year's Chris Sale, building himself into a top prospect on the back of a great summer on the Cape. He's not on the Team USA trials roster, so he'll be on the Cape all summer unless something happens.

6-21-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/06/21/cape-cod-baseball-league-players-of-the-week-2 - The first pitcher to secure the Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week award is Falmouth’s Mark Pope (Georgia Tech). Pope was lights out in his first appearance, his only to date. In a 1-0 victory over Cotuit, the righty fanned 11 Kettleers over seven shutout innings, surrendering only two hits. The 11 strikeouts recorded by Pope have been matched by only three other pitchers over the first week of games.A bright future lies ahead for the Georgia Tech sophomore. As a freshman, Pope was the Yellow Jackets’ closer, recording 18 scoreless innings in 25 appearances, good for a 5-1 record and eight saves for the season. In 2010 as a starter, the versatile Pope went 8-1, ending the season with both a complete game and a save. He was selected in the 18th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, but elected to attend Georgia Tech instead.

33. Anthony Meo:

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - One of the stars of this spring has been Coastal Carolina ace Anthony Meo (4.17 FIP), who won 13 games for the Chanticleers on Friday nights. He’s blossomed quite a bit in two years, reportedly reaching 96 mph with his fastball this spring.

6-12 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/06/11/ncbwa-announces-district-players-of-the-year - Nine of college baseball’s finest student-athletes have been named 2010 National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America District Players of the Year, as the NCBWA announced these 11th annual awards today. One was District IV: SP Anthony Meo (Coastal Carolina) - Meo has been the mainstay on a Coastal Carolina staff, which helped CCU roll to the national lead in overall victories with 55 in its first 63 games this season. He is tied for first place in NCAA individual pitching wins with 13 (13-2) to go along with a 2.63 ERA, 16 starts 95 2/3 innings pitched, 80 hits allowed, 94 strikeouts, 34 walks, and 2010 All-America laurels. The sophomore right-hander from Cranston, N.J., was named Big South Pitcher of the Year and hopes to pace the Chanticleers to a first-ever appearance in the NCAA World Series if they can get past Southeastern Conference power South Carolina. He is a solid candidate for the CBF 2010 Pitcher of the Year as well.

34. Jordan Cooper – Wichita State

1-28-10 from www.baseballdraftreport.com: - SO RHP Jordan Cooper (2011) is coming off a fantastic freshman season and should once again thrive as Wichita State’s Saturday starter. His hard work on campus has helped him further develop his pro body and clean up his loose, easy, and repeatable throwing mechanics. He has a low-90s fastball, decent slider, an emerging changeup, and a curve still in its infancy. There isn’t a standout pitch in his arsenal just yet, but the ability to throw four (though closer to three and a half) pitches for strikes make him appealing as a potential back of the rotation starter. Another big year in 2010 will earn him his rightful promotion to Friday starter in 2011.

6-14-10: Named to 3rd Team NCBWA 2010 All-America Team - Jordan Cooper – 10-3, 2.01

35. Luke Crumley -

11-2-09 from www.thehardballtimes.com: - Luke Crumley, RHP, 2011, Cleveland, Ga., Royals Baseball Club - Crumley has the ideal projectable pitchers body; 6-foot-4, 180. His fastball right now sits 88-90 mph, with the potential for a lot more as he fills out. He also showed a pretty nasty curveball that definitely looks like a future plus pitch. Just a high school junior, Crumley is already committed to Georgia (according to Mom). Mechanically, there is a bit more effort in the delivery than you’d like to see, and his arm jerks a bit on the finish. His draft day is 19 months away, and anything can happen between now and then (and let that be known for any 2011 player discussed here). But if he’s already hitting 90 with room to grow and a good looking second pitch, he’s a guy you want to follow.

36. Aaron Sanchez – Barstow HS (CA.) – 6-3, 170… 93-94 fastball… good consistency…

Shorewood HS, Washington

38. Shawn Gilmartin – Florida State – freshman 2009: 12-3, 3.49, 83-K, 98.0-IP

12-20-9 from www.collegebaseballblog.com: - named to the 10th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Athletic Preseason All-America team. Gilmartin went 12-3 with a 3.49 ERA while striking out 83 batters and walking 37 in 98 innings as the Seminoles finished first in the ACC Atlantic Division and advanced to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAAs.

7-14-10: from: - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100714&content_id=12244294&vkey=recap_usab - Sean Gilmartin (Florida State) fanned five as Team USA picked up its first win of the summer, 8-3, Tuesday night over the Fayetteville Swampdogs of the Coastal Plain League. Gilmartin (1-0) went five innings in the start allowing two runs (both unearned) with one walk to secure his first win of the summer tour

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Sean Gilmartin RF/LF/LHP So. Florida St. Univ. - Trials Notes: Gilmartin's future is most likely on the mound, but he is listed as one of two utility players on the CNT roster and could see some time in an outfield corner or even at first base depending on what is needed during tournament play. He has some raw strength and loft and can put a charge into the ball when he barrels it, but he can get long in his load and can fall into the trap of dropping the bat into the hit zone, limiting its contact time. Quite simply, he needs to see more in-game reps to continue to grow at the plate -- there's some room for growth but he needs the at bats. Gilmartin is adequate at both the outfield corner and first, and shows some arms strength and carry out of right.

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Sean Gilmartin - LHSP So. Florida St. Univ. - Trials Notes: Gilmartin is a good-sized lefty with a sturdy frame, a four pitch arsenal and an improving understanding of how to mix his pitches. During Trials, his fastball was generally 89-91, hitting some 92s and showing solid arm-side life. His best breaker was a slider that dives at the back foot of righties, but he also threw a 1-7 curve that could be a solid average or better pitch with work. For now, the curve has a tendency to roll, though at its best it flashes decent bite, depth and 2-plane action. Gilmartin shows some feel for his change-up, though he did not throw it often. The FSU Friday starter showed several impressive pitch sequences, but is still figuring out how to harness his stuff and put it together with consistency. His command of each offering needs to improve, but the raw stuff is there for him to work his way into 1st Round consideration next June. Along with Anderson, Johnson and Mooneyham, he could provide valuable innings out of the pen.

39. Hawtin Buchanan:

6-27 from: -http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=2 - One of the taller pitchers around, RHP Hawtin Buchanan, slightly taller than 6'6 and 230, down hill plane fb, up to 92, some sink when down on the knees, lots of pitches up in the zone, Biloxi HS Miss is on the map for 2011 follow.

7-18 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/7/17/1574115/all-questions-answered#comments - rhp - Extremely tall, and he still manages to have projection despite already packing on some 230-240 pounds on his 6’8’’ frame. He has a very deceptive above-average fastball when he’s on, and his release point is so close to the plate that his 88-90 mph fastball looks more like 91-93. His curveball is a potential plus pitch, too, and I’ve heard of a few average changeups thrown in when he was here at East Cobb a couple weeks ago. If he had 3-4 more miles an hour on his fastball, we’d be talking about him as a top ten pick.

40. Andrew Gagnon:

7-6 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/07/06/cape-cod-playerpitcher-of-the-week-76 - Gagnon delivered seven shutout innings, striking out nine and surrendering only two hits in a 1-0 win over Hyannis. In his second start, he allowed only one run on five hits, while striking out eight in seven innings against Orleans. Gagnon has been one of the league’s brightest stars this season. He leads in wins (3) and strikeouts (27). He was also named to the All Big West second team last season, accumulating a team-leading 3.28 ERA.

7-18 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=3870 - On Long Beach State righthander Andrew Gagnon (4-0, 1.69, 35-10 K-BB in 27 IP): "Andrew Gagnon is one to watch for next year: loose arm, 89-92, pretty good feel for a changeup, his slider's in development. He pitches to both sides of the plate and he comes at guys. I think he was the Friday night guy this past year at Long Beach, and I foresee him being really good this year."

7-19 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/7/17/1574115/all-questions-answered#comments - RHP Gagnon is one of those college pitchers that can put up very good numbers against wood bats because of his command. His fastball isn’t anything more than solid-average, and while he has a solid-average slider and above-average changeup, that’s not going to project for much more than a #3/4 starter at the Major League level. If he firms up the slider, he could be a late first round option in a lot of classes, but in this coming class, he looks like a 2nd-4th round arm.

7-27-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/27/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-players-to-watch - Andrew Gagnon (Long Beach State)- Heading into the summer, I hadn’t heard of Gagnon but he has been having a solid summer as he was named the Eastern Division starter. He is 5-1 with a 2.15 ERA in seven games (six starts) for a total of 37.2 innings.

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • Andrew Gagnon, RHP, Long Beach State -- One of the more complete pitchers to throw on Wednesday, Gagnon showed off a crisp 90-92 mph fastball with good two seam action. He also mixed a quality 78-79 mph changeup and generally an excellent feel for all his pitches.

41. John Simms:

7-20 from: - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100719&content_id=12419754&vkey=recap_usab - John Simms (Woodlands, Tex.), Daniel Camarena (Bonita, Calif.) and Lance McCullers (Tampa, Fla.) combined on a five-hit shutout to lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team over the St. Cloud All-Stars 3-0 Monday night at Faber Field. Simms (3-0) tossed six shutout innings allowing just four hits with four strikeouts. Simms continued to get ahead in the count and frustrate the St. Cloud batters. The Woodlands, Tex., native benefited from a pair of outstanding defensive plays to keep St. Cloud off the board.

7-26 from: - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100725&content_id=12638244&vkey=recap_usab - John Simms (The Woodlands, Tex.) struck out 11 in six shutout innings to lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team over Italy 10-0 Sunday in USA's second game of the 2010 IBAF "AAA" (18U) World Junior Championships. USA scored 10 runs on eight hits to defeat Italy in seven innings due to the 10-run rule, improving the U.S. to 2-0 in pool play. Simms (3-0) was dynamic in six shutout frames, posting his second double-digit strikeout game in four outings this summer. The right-hander worked efficiently allowing just two hits and issuing just one walk. Dillon Maples (West End, N.C.) tossed one scoreless inning to seal the victory.

8-1 from: - http://web.usabaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100731&content_id=12865732&vkey=recap_usab - The USA Baseball 18U National Team over Korea 4-2 at Baseball Central Saturday. USA improves to 6-1 in 2010 IBAF World Junior "AAA" (18U) Baseball Championships with the victory. John Simms (The Woodlands, Tex.) pitched seven strong innings, allowing two runs, both unearned, on just two hits with six strikeouts. Simms was efficient in the early going, tossing a perfect slate through the first 3 2/3 frames. The Woodlands, Tex., product labored in the fourth, but wriggled out of the inning unscathed with a timely pick off.

42. Bryan Brickhouse:

8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - Bryan Brickhouse, rhp, The Woodlands (Texas) HS - Brickhouse is built like his surname: strong, mature and powerful. He fires a lively 92-94 mph fastball, and can add some cutting action to that pitch. To his credit, Brickhouse has several other pitches in his repertoire, including an 84 slider, 85 change and a 76 curve. Brickhouse was touched up a shade in the second inning of his first start. Aggressive and blessed with a unique arm, once Brickhouse learns to command all of pitches he has a chance to be dominant.

8-12-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=117 - Perhaps a preview of the 2010 ALCS? Could be, but none of these players would be in that game... though Rangers right-hander Bryan Brickhouse (6'2" 190) from The Woodlands HS-The Woodlands (TX) would not embarrass himself if he were in a MLB game right now. Brickhouse has been the most impressive pitcher, maybe not in terms of overall projection, but for present day stuff and plus pitches. Brickhouse is a good old fashioned Texas power arm. He touched up to 94 and sat 90-92 for most of his two innings. He also has a wipeout slider and a present day average (MLB) curveball.

43. Kyle Hendricks:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Kyle Hendricks, Dartmouth, 6'2 185, has arm strength and throws strikes, command and consistency on release biggest keys to success and exposure over the summer.

44. Zach Wentz:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Zach Wentz, North Dakota St, 6'3 220, strike thrower and wants the ball, will show occ 91-92, upside to add more with more pitching time and exposure, watch him this summer.

45. Nick Tropeano:

6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - Small School Sleeper: Nick Tropeano, Stony Brook, 3.74 FIP, 9.57 K/9, 2.62 BB/9. THIS is how you follow up a good summer. Named the top prospect in the Atlantic Collegiate League by Baseball America, Tropeano followed it up with a brilliant spring for Stony Brook. Teams love his projectable 6-foot-4 frame, and he already has feel for a curveball and changeup.

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Nick Tropeano, Stony Brook, 6'4 210, R/R, also plays 1b, 87-93, mostly 90-91 again with live fb, heavy when down, can get life when up and deceptive enough.

46. Cole Wiper:

6-27 from: -http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=2 - Day two at TOS - RHP, Cole Wiper, showed arm strength and whip, up to 92, most 89, some straight and some with arm side run, needs to fill out, breaking ball suspect still, but throws strikes. From Washington HS ranks too. Have to see him again!

8-11-10 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com - Cole Wiper (Newport, Bellevue, WA) topped out at 91 with his fastball, 83-85 with what a scout told me was a cutter, and a 78 mph curve he left up in the zone that was pulled for a triple down the right-field line. He has thrown three innings overall, struggling with his control on Sunday when he walked three of the seven batters faced.

47. Blake Snell:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Blake Snell, Shorewood HS, Shoreline WA, 6'4 200, another good arm, mostly 88-89, touches 91, U of Washington early commit too.

8-14-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=126 - Starting pitcher, LHP Blake Snell (6'4" 180, Shorewood HS, Shoreline, WA) is more along the lines of a prospect the scouts want to see, particularly with that body, being left-handed and having good present day stuff, with the ability to project more in the future. Snell was 87-90 mph with the fastball and has a good, big overhand curveball (73-75 mph) that he can use for outs or for strikes and can use to right or left-handed hitters. He also has a usable 78-79 mph change-up. Being from the Northwest is a bonus for Snell because those kids are usually a little behind kids from warm weather areas in terms of their overall development curve so scouts can feel good about projecting them even further. Snell is and will be a real good one. He attacks hitters and pitches very well off his fastball.

48. Michael Palazzone - Georgia

3-10-10 from http://baseballdraftreport.com: - SO RHP Michael Palazzone (Georgia) had a rough Sunday. The draft-eligible sophomore was pounded by Florida State: 1.1 IP 5 H 6 ER 2 BB 1 K. Teammate SO RHP Cecil Tanner, channeling a young Bobby Jenks (Georgia) had an even rougher go of it: 1 IP 1 H 6 ER 6 BB 0 K 3 WP

7-18 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=3870 - On Georgia righty Michael Palazzone (1-1, 1.40, 25-3 K-BB in 26 IP): "It's crazy how an aluminum bat can really destroy guys' seasons. He can really pitch, he's got command to both sides of the plate, an average to maybe a tick above-average changeup, a breaking ball he can throw for strikes. He repeats his delivery, he's got very good command, and he keeps them off balance. He's been drafted twice before, I can see why. He's 91-92 with a good body and a loose arm. And he's a great kid."

49. Quintavious Drains:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Quintavious Drains, Jackson St, 6'2 195, from Atlanta hotbed, another name given to me to see for the summer, will show low 90's on occasion, has had enough exposure being down south and at times he's lights out and other times very hittable, started out as a reliever and became top starter this spring. More upside than Edwin Jackson at same age, will turn 21 late October.

50. Derek Benny:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Derek Benny, Fresno St, 6'5 220, smooth righty with 93 fb, mostly 89-91, know how, also 77-81 slider and makings of ave str change.

51. Andrew Foushee:

5-24 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/24/big-south-players-of-the-week-12 - Presbyterian College hurler RHP Andrew Foushee (2011) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week. Foushee led the Blue Hose to a victory in their season finale with a complete game four-hit shutout at VMI last Friday. He struck out 10 batters and walked just two hitters, and retired the final 16 batters he faced to earn his second win of the season. Foushee struck out the side in the second inning and held the Keydets to a .133 batting average on the night.

52. Bubba Gardner:

Gamer too, kept runners on bases at bay. From Illinois, not in same league at this point to Folty, but he has to be seen in 2011.

54. Adam Griffin - RHP OF Forsyth Country Day Clemmons NC

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Adam Griffin, Forsyth Country Day, NC, 6'0 1/2 175, quick arm with live upstairs run, 88-97, mostly 91-92, working on cutter, also has hard cb that needs more command. UNC early commit.

55. Benton Moss:

6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Benton Moss, Rocky Mount HS, NC, 6'2 170, live arm, up to 94 this spring with sink, more of a thrower still, rushes delivery, still wiry frame to fill out in time to add more velo and breaking ball at times explodes, other times rolls.

56. Hunter Scantling:

6-21-10 from: - http://baseballdraftreport.com - 2011 MLB Draft Players to Know – Florida State - SO RHP Hunter Scantling* (5.00 FIP; 7.98 K/9; 2.66 BB/9; 44 IP) - Scantling is huge (6-8, 270 pounds) and athletic, but his stuff still doesn’t quite match his imposing frame. That could change in a hurry, but for now he’s still sitting in the same upper-80s with iffy breaking stuff that he was at back in high school. It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll get more consistent innings as a starter or if Florida State opts to keep him coming out of the bullpen in 2011.

57. Daniel Bennett:

6-21-10 from: - http://baseballdraftreport.com - 2011 MLB Draft Players to Know – Florida State - JR RHP Daniel Bennett* (3.56 FIP; 10.06 K/9; 3.18 BB/9; 34 IP) - Bennett has been counted on in many big spots as the Seminoles primary non-closer relief pitcher. His deceptive sidearm delivery, above-average fastball, and impressive junior year peripherals make him one to watch. The former Tallahassee Community College standout should get first crack at reclaiming the closer’s job he lost to Mike McGee this season in 2011.

58. Tristian Montgomery:

6-23-10 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - Day 1 at TOS: - RHP Tristian Montgomery for NABF showed his fantastic arm strength, with some 93's mostly 91's with hard bite on his power cb. Also was in the zone and had hitters swinging and missing. He's moved up on many lists to watch for 2011. I have him ahead of Maples on paper now.

59. Courtney Hawkins:

6-27 from: -http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=2 - Day two at TOS - RHP, Courtney Hawkins, 2012, CC Texas, 6'1 205, max effort arm, rather loose, seems to push up hill, was 86-88, most straight and spinner breaking ball, easy to read, in pre-game showed pop in his bat, might be best to take a position in OF and swing away. Has 2 years left.

60. Derek Starling:

6-27 from: -http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=2 - Day two at TOS - RHP, Derek Starling, Gardner Edgerton HS, Kansas, 6'3 plus 180 plus, was up to 89 with sink, also bite on slurve, will end up being a slider, 4 year route best bet to develop and move up draft stock. Lots of movement during windup that needs tweaking, wasteful use of energy with delivery at present. Solid arm strength though.

61. Parker French:

6-27: - With the conclusion of the Tournament of Stars in Cary, N.C., USA Baseball has now announced the trials rosters for the 18U national teams. - Parker French RHP L/R 6-1 180 Dripping Springs HS, Austin 2011

62. Kyle Smith:

6-27: - With the conclusion of the Tournament of Stars in Cary, N.C., USA Baseball has now announced the trials rosters for the 18U national teams. - Kyle Smith RHP R/R 6-0 180 Santaluces HS, Lantana, Fla. 2011

7-27-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=98 - Kyle Smith, RHP/SS, Santaluces (FL) HS - Smith is Florida’s version of Ricardo Jacquez. His small-framed 5’10” build and plus athleticism points to the infield, but his stuff says the mound. I lean to Smith as a pitcher but not without hesitation. His arm-action is beautiful and I believe his curveball can become a plus major league pitch. He also showed low-90s velo at the Tournament of Stars. Smith has good infield actions, enough to consider shortstop, but he might not become much more than a contact hitter at the highest levels.

63. Matty Ott:

7-27-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/27/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-players-to-watch - Matty Ott (LSU)- He has been one of the best relief pitchers in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer with 2-0 record in 13 games while accumulating a 0.50 ERA, and holding opponents to a .121 batting average. He has also struck out 16 batters in only 18 innings of work. Ott was impressive as a freshman in the 2009 College World Series, but had a tough 2010 season with the Tigers going 2-4 with a 6.38 ERA as he made 28 appearances while getting eleven saves. If Ott can find his freshman form then the LSU Tigers will be fine next year as they will probably need to replace Anthony Ranaudo, who had a solid summer down the Cape and is expected to sign with the Boston Red Sox in the near future.

8-8 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/08/01/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-random-thoughts - Matty Ott from LSU has returned to his form from the 2009 season in which he went 4-2 with 16 saves in 50.1 innings of work while holding opponents to a .237 batting average against. He pitched a scoreless fourth inning giving up one hit. In the 2010 Cape season, Ott has been outstanding with a 2-0 record in 14 relief appearances while picking up six saves in 18.1 innings and striking out 17 batters. If Ott can return to his 2009 form, the LSU could possibly have an absolute stud closer or another solid weekend starter for next season.

64. Nick Ahmed – Connecticut…

11-9-9 from www.baseballdraftreport.com: - The Huskies feature one of the nation’s most intriguing pair of two-way talents in SO RHP/SS Nick Ahmed (2011) and SO RHP/3B Kevin Vance (2011). Ahmed turned some serious heads in summer league play with a fastball sitting in the low-90s, a low-70s curve with promise, and a presently league average change.

65. Kevin Vance – Connecticut…

11-9-9 from www.baseballdraftreport.com: - The Huskies feature one of the nation’s most intriguing pair of two-way talents in SO RHP/SS Nick Ahmed (2011) and SO RHP/3B Kevin Vance (2011). Ahmed may have been the hotter name over the summer, but Vance’s stuff is currently a touch better. He has similar velocity to Ahmed (normally sitting 90-92 with the FB), but a better overall breaking ball and plus command give him the overall edge.

66. Evan Brock:

7-9 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/08/usa-baseball-national-team-trials-game-3-recap - Blue jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Red squad 6-1 Thursday night in Game 3 of the Collegiate National Team (CNT) Trials at the National Training Complex (NTC). Evan Brock (UC Irvine) followed up his inning of no-hit performance on Tuesday by allowing one run on four hits in three frames and a pair of punch outs.

67. Tyler Pill – Cal Sate Fullerton – 2009: 11-3, 4.06, 74-K, 102.0-IP

12-20-09: named to 3rd team 2010 NCBWA AA team

7-22 from: - http://www.rightfieldfog.com - In the Cape Cod League, Harwich beat Orleans 2-1 for its fourth win in a row. With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the ninth, Tyler Pill (Cal State Fullerton) hit a solo home run to give the Mariners the lead. That set things up for Matty Ott, who closed the door and picked up his sixth save.

68. Adam Smith -

11-11-9 from www.thebaseballdraftreport.com: - Texas A&M - SO RHP/SS Adam Smith (2011) and the bazooka launcher attached to the right side of his body. If you’ve been following the draft over the past few years the name Adam Smith should sound familiar. No, not the Wealth of Nations guy. The highly sought after 2008 recruit who wound up in College Station playing for the Aggies. Smith has always had a crazy strong arm, but only recently has he had the chance to showcase it regularly on the mound. I still believe he can play a capable SS/3B and hit enough to be productive at either spot, but I couldn’t fault a team that instead saw him as a potential closer-type throwing easy 97 mph fastballs off the bump.

69. Adrian Houser

7-25 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/7/24/1585669/all-questions-answered#comments - I have a good amount of info on Houser, as he’s done the showcase and tournament circuit before. He was very impressive here in the Atlanta area for the 17u WWBA championships pitching for the Dallas Yankees, and I think that’s the main reason why he was named to the Under Armour game. His fastball is already in the 88-92 range, and it touched 94 here. He has some projection, but he looks more like a potential #3 starter than a TORP. His curve is solid-average and it could get better, and he definitely puts some zip on it compared to a lot of prep curveballs. I have one report of there being some potential mechanical issues, but I’d like to see more video to make my own opinions.

8-12-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html - RHP - Locust Grove (Okla.) HS Houser is a solidly built, athletic righthander who commands three pitches and has advanced feel for his secondary stuff. A recent jump in velocity has him running his fastball up to 94 mph. His breaking ball is a big downer with tight rotation.

70. Tyler Lasko –

3-11-10 from: http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/03/18/acc-recap-for-march-17th-2 - Sophomore RHP Taylor Lasko allowed one run in 6.0 innings of work to lead the Boston College baseball team to an 8-2 win at Bryant on St. Patrick’s Day. Lasko allowed one run on five hits for his first collegiate win. He struck out two and walked one.

71. Kaleb Merck -

3-15-10 from http://pnrscouting.com/rankings_2010_houstoncollegeclassic.html - Top 10 Players (2011 Draft Class) - Kaleb Merck, RHP, Texas Christian Univ. - Just one appearance on the weekend, but made the most of his 2.2 IP notching 3 SO while allowing 2 H and 0 BB and took just 34 pitches to record 8 outs, with just one of the outs coming in the air; 89-91, touched 92 mph with his fastball and added a 78-80 slider that flashed late bite.

72. Jordan Prias -

RHP - 4-7-10 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/04/06/cb360-primetime-performers-of-the-week-7-april-6 - Stanford sophomore righthander Jordan Pries has been named the Primetime Pitcher of the Week. Pries went the distance on April 2 in game-2 of the series at #2 UCLA, as the Cardinal handed the Bruins their first loss of the season (8-4). The 6-0, 190-pound righthander allowed three earned runs on eight hits and four walks, with four strikeouts while facing a potent UCLA lineup that featured four players hitting above .390 for the season. The 133-pitch complete game saw Pries sparkle through the first 7.2 innings, as he allowed only an unearned run and four hits until late in the 8th inning. Twice in the game, Pries retired seven in a row – and his first six frames featured two 1-2-3 innings and four others in which he induced a double-play ball.

73. Branden Pinder:

4-12-10 from: http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/12/big-west-players-of-the-week-2 - Long Beach State’s Branden Pinder (Torrance, Calif./Santa Ana CC) delivered the first complete game shutout of his career to capture Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades. Pinder went the distance as the 49ers salvaged the final game of a three-game series, winning 11-0 against UC Davis on Saturday. Pinder tossed a three-hitter and allowed only one walk while throwing just 100 pitches in an efficient performance. He also struck out three. The sophomore faced the minimum 12 batters over the final four innings of the game and got a double play to remove the only Aggie baserunner in those final four frames.

74. Marcus Stroman:

7-29 from: - RHP Marcus Stroman sat 93-96 with a hard slider. I've seen Marcus before for Duke. He's got a very good arm for a little guy, 5'9 180 also not a bad hitter, plays SS/2b/3b, will be utilized more next spring on the bump, was a closer this spring mostly, saw only 88-92 for him during the two outings I witnessed with sharp slide piece as you mentioned, he also had a change that has some deception on it when he doesn't slow his arm down. Throws strikes.

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • Marcus Stroman, RHP, Duke -- Heading into just his sophomore season, Stroman was clearly one of the standout arms at Wednesday's event. The 5-foot-9 righty has the look and arsenal of a future closer, and he showed off his dominance against college baseball's best. Stroman sat 93-97 mph with his fastball, and mixed a sharp, plus slider at 80-82.

8-8 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/08/01/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-random-thoughts - Duke’s Marcus Stroman improved his draft stock this summer with his performance in the CCBL and in the All-Star game on Wednesday night. He ended up pitching one inning on Wednesday giving up a hit while striking out a batter. In the entire 2010 season, Stroman is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA as he hasn’t given up a run in 23 innings while picking up eight saves. In those 23 innings, he has only given up nine hits.

75. Cecil Tanner -

2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com - Add one more towering, fire-ballling righty to the mix of those eligible to go in the first round of the 2011 draft: Georgia’s Cecil Tanner. Georgia’s depth in pitching may allow the team to use him as either its closer, set-up man or both, as he and equally towering lefty Alex McRee could give the Bulldogs the most intimidating bullpen to deal with in games that are close and late. If he remains in a late-inning role, Tanner may follow in the footsteps of big-bodied closers with equally big arms in Jonathan Broxton and Bobby Jenks.

4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - Not every college player in the 2011 draft class has performed to expectations this spring. Here are five that may need to pick up their pace to preserve their high standing: RHP Cecil Tanner (Georgia): Tanner has flashed first-round potential in the past, including a mid to upper 90’s fastball, but has seen his command completely evaporate this spring. He has gone just 1-2, 14.18 with 26 walks in 13 innings. His command has never been particularly outstanding (27 BB in 35 IP as a freshman), but it’s worth noting that Tanner is not very experienced, especially for a Georgia high-school prospect, as he threw only 28 innings as a high-school senior in addition to last year’s 35 innings.

76. Matt Sisto:

http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/03/wac-players-of-the-week-10 - Hawai‘i’s Matt Sisto has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for April 26-May 2. Sisto, a sophomore from Anaheim, Calif. (Cypress HS), pitched 5.1 shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five to get the win in UH’s 1-0 victory over Nevada in the second game of its May 1 doubleheader. Sisto retired 12 of 13 batters between the second and sixth innings, posting four three-batter innings between the third and sixth stanzas.

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP - Matt Sisto, Hawaii, 6'4 1/2 230, power arm for Rainbows, not a strike out guy, gets popups and grounders and knows how, just needs to stay within himself. Should have breakout year.

77. Scott Lyman:

5-4-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/03/big-west-baseball-player-of-the-week - Scott Lyman (Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) tossed eight shutout innings for UC Davis in a 16-0 blanking of Cal State Northridge, garnering Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades. The sophomore allowed just three hits and struck out a season-high six batters in the outing, throwing 105 pitches. Lyman’s performance came on the heels of two potent offensive showings by the Matador offense. UC Davis pitching allowed CSUN to score 20 runs combined in the first two games of the series. In addition to his mound command, Lyman flourished at the plate, going 7-for-18 (.389) with three doubles, a home run and six runs scored.

78. Josh Martin:

5-10-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/10/southern-conference-players-of-the-week-6 - Samford’s RHP Josh Martin has been selected as the league’s Pitcher of the Week for all games from May 3-9. Martin held Wofford scoreless for 6.2 innings, allowing just three hits in Samford’s 13-0 win in the final game of the teams’ SoCon series on Sunday. Martin combined with two other Samford pitchers to post the school’s first shutout in Southern Conference play and its first shutout overall in more than two years. The sophomore struck out four Wofford batters to register his fourth victory of the season.

79. Brandon Woodruff

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html - RHP - Wheeler (Miss.) HS Woodruff is a big, strong athlete who overpowers inexperienced hitters at the high school level. He has an easy, low-effort delivery that leads to consistent 90-94 mph velocity. He has the makings of a good breaking ball and is athletic enough to draw two-way interest from college recruiters as an outfielder with lefthanded power.

8-16-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#storyjump - Brandon Woodruff, RHP, Wheeler HS (Miss.) - Committed to Mississippi State, Woodruff is a strong athlete with a durable frame that showcased three above-average pitches at the event. With a drop and drive type-delivery, Woodruff worked at 90-92 with solid-average command and some good run on the pitch. His curveball is a sharp 11-5 breaker that ranged from anywhere from 74-80, and he complimented that with a very good feel for a straight change-up at 79-81. There was a little bit of effort in his delivery, as he picks his arm up with his elbow, but overall, nothing jumps out as worrisome.

80. Eric Harrington – Lamar – 2009: 15 appearances, 8-1, 3.01, 63-K, 83.2-IP…

11-24-9 from www.collegebaseballblog.com: named the 57th top college player for the 2010 season.

81. Max Pearlman:

7-13-10 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/07/12/westlake-perlman-take-cape-cod-weekly-honors - Wareham comeback kid Max Perlman (Harvard) has secured this week’s Coca Cola Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week award for his performance against Brewster. Perlman pitched six shutout innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead. Although the bullpen could not hold the lead, his nine strikeouts and two hits surrendered were enough to earn him this week’s award. The 6-7 right-hander showed plenty of promise in his first season as a member of the Crimson, earning All-Freshman third team honors. An elbow injury in his first start as a sophomore derailed his second season and much of his junior year, but his success this summer indicates that he has returned to form. He is also a Cape League veteran. He pitched well enough for the Gatemen in 2008 to be selected as an All-Star alternate before his injury.

82. Trevor Fitts:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - RHP - Trevor Fitts, Pelham (Pelham, Ala.), Pitcher - The Birmingham News Metro Player of the Year, Fitts struck out 151 batters in 92 innings pitched and was 14-0 with a 0.91 ERA. He has committed to play at Mississippi State.

83. Zach Davies:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team – RHP - Zach Davies, Mesquite (Gilbert, Ariz.), Pitcher - An all-state pick by the Arizona Republic and an all-area selection by the East Valley Tribune, Davies was 9-1 with 1.58 ERA for Mesquite. He had 84 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched and also batted .318 with 26 RBI, 10 doubles and 6 home runs.

84. Tyler Davis:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Tyler Davis, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), Pitcher - Davis was unflappable on the mound for Archbishop Mitty, which finished ranked No. 3 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 final rankings. He was 11-0 and struck out 82 batters in 78 innings with a 2.87 ERA.

85. J.D. Davis:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - J.D. Davis, Elk Grove (Elk Grove, Calif.), All-Purpose - Helped Elk Grove reach the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship game and earned All-Metro honors by the Sacramento Bee after batting .483 with 62 RBI, 56 hits, 10 doubles and 8 home runs.

86. Michael Kelly:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Michael Kelly, West Boca Raton (Boca Raton, Fla.), All-Purpose - All-county by the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Kelly went 10-4 with a 2.06 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched. He also batted .323 with 17 RBI and has committed to play at Florida.

87. Jake Floethe:

7-18 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=3870 - On Cal State Fullerton righty Jake Floethe (2-1, 0.84, 17-9 K-BB in 21 IP): "He may have the best stuff. He's 90-93 with heavy sink and a good changeup. The slider's something he needs to refine a little bit, but he looks like he's playing catch. It's an effortless delivery."

88. Ben Grisz:

7-22-10 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - RHP, Ben Grisz, Duke, 6'1 220, pitching for Thomasville, first got a glimpse of Ben at TOS a couple years back, threw a lot of relief for the Blue Devs this spring, has def arm strength, most fb very true, velo range from upper 80's to as high as 93, mostly 90-91 with again, not much movement, slider when he leads with elbow properly is solid out pitch, other times flat and easy to read, he competes and for the most part has enough bounce back stamina to stay as a reliever and be effective at the next level ala Matt Herges. Control is good, sometimes too good.

- RHP - Ben Grisz, Duke, 6'1 220, have seen some progress and maturity since his HS days and at TOS 2 years ago. Will bump 93 on occ, mostly 89-91 with command. Also out of pen a lot.

89. Jordan Jankowski:

7-22-10 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - RHP, Jordan Jankowski, Miami-OH, 6'0 200, pitching with Grisz at Thomasville this summer, another name I was surprised was not drafted this year as a D/E soph, he will touch 92, but mostly pitches at 88-89, his niche would be to be a middle guy or if he can gain a bit more stamina and use his lower half better in his extension-follow thru could add a couple mph to velo. Breaking ball rolls at times and other times sharp, again depends on release points. On a club that will get a lot of exposure this fall and next spring in MAC conference. He's not a secret would be a low "A" draft at the least. Command is ok, control again is ok, workable.

90. Carter Capps:

7-22-10 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - RHP, Carter Capps, Mount Olive, 6'4 215, playing for Fayetteville this summer, will be draft eligible next year, from what the press at BA stated, he bumped some 94-95 on the gun, but I haven't seen that, he started this spring 13 games for MOC and the game I was at before the tourney he was 87-89 consistently, topped out at 91, he's got pretty good tilt to the breaking ball but it's still a work in progress, his asset is he's tall and he comes down hill and throws strikes, he won't beat himself. He's got some left in his tank and will probably be one of those guys who comes on next spring after a good fall this fall. He's still 19 and will turn 20 soon. In HS at tourney he was mid to upper 80's so there is progression in his velocity and arm strength and he's learning to be very effective at developing his breaking ball.

91. Tyler Anderson:

7-23-10 from: - http://pnrscouting.com/articles_teamusacollegiate_finalroster_07212010.html - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Tyler Anderson - LHSP - So. Univ. of Oregon - Trials Notes: Anderson was generally 88-90 with his fastball, touching 91/92, and working it most effectively to the outer half of the plate against lefties. He showed some trouble working inside to lefties, catching too much of the middle, and didn't spot particularly well against righties. His curve was 78-80 mph with average depth and flashed potential as a freeze offering, and his slider gave him another look coming with low-80s velo and some tilt. There is some deception in his high kick and arm action, though he can also get long to home due to each (1.76 - 1.82). He flashed a solid change at 77 mph, as well.

92. Skylar Janisse:

7-25 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/7/24/1585669/all-questions-answered#comments - Very new to the major prospect scene, so my information about him is somewhat limited. He’s a tall, projectable Canadian that was named to the Under Armour game, and I have him as a kid that pretty much sits 88-90 with definitely more to come. Has a promising, but erratic breaking ball that has been described to me as both a curve and slider, so I wonder if he throws both or if it’s a slurvy type of pitch. I’m guessing that he’s flashed both, but don’t quote me on that. Anyway, it’s a potential above-average pitch, but is more often below-average.

93. Scott Lyman:

7-25-10 from: - www.macksmets.blogspot.com: - Scott Lyman- UC Davis (SP, OF, CL)- Lyman is another potential five (5) tool guy, but the question is whether he will pitch or be an OF. Similar to Crocker he is a big and strong 6'2" 210lbs. As a freshman he only pitched in relief getting 2 saves in 39 IP, but there are control problems walking more than he struck out and also nearly walking one per inning. On the flip side he sits 91-92 touching 94 and his velocity in the 7th inning isn't noticeably lower than the 1st inning. His secondary pitches are a work in progress as he gets in trouble while batter's sit on his fastball. In 2010 he became a two way player displaying similar wildness (6+ ERA) to 2009, but with many more K's. In addition, he hit .356 in the middle of the line-up for the Aggies with 5 HR's in a cavernous Dobbins Stadium. Scott's older brother Jeff is a SP in the Braves organization and to me is a for sure top 5-10 round pick depending on whether he goes position player or on the hill.

94. Alex Meyer:

Has to progress this coming season.

95. Madison Boer:

96. Ryan Harris:

97. Randy McCurry:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP - Randy McCurry, Oklahoma St, 6'1 190, also SS for Cowboy program, has 91-94 fb, mostly true, needs to make commitment to bump.

98. Tanner Peters:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP -Tanner Peters, UNLV, 6'0 160, little righty with big cb and good fb, low 90's mostly, competes, stamina is ok and will be watched closely this coming year for sure.

99. Andrew Kittredge:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP - Andrew Kittredge, Washington, 6'1 200, good arm strength and live fb, development of secondary pitches has improved as well.

100. Chase Johnson:

7-26 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702&p=4 - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - RHP - Chase Johnson, Fallbrook HS, Cal, 6'3 185, loose arm that will touch 91-92 on occ, mostly upper 80's, has grown a bit since soph year and not much press on him just yet.

101. Colton Murray:

7-27-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/07/27/2010-cape-cod-baseball-league-all-star-game-players-to-watch - RHP Colton Murray (Kansas)- He has been one of the best relievers in the Cape this summer with the Brewster Whitecaps as he is 0-1, including six saves, with a 0.59 ERA in 15.1 innings of work. He has held opponents to a batting average against of .185 while striking out 19 batters. Colton worked out of the bullpen for the Kansas Jayhawks in 2010, making 27 appearances with a 1-2 record and a 4.87 ERA.

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • Colton Murray, RHP, Kansas -- A true swing-and-miss threat, Murray showed off perhaps the best breaking ball of the day. Sitting 91-94 mph with his heavy moving fastball, Murray was able to finish hitters with a devastating, plus 82-84 mph slider. If he can continue to throw those two pitches for strikes he can be very effective in the back of the 'pen. He does mix in a decent changeup, but his high-effort delivery doesn't make him a great starting candidate.

102. R.J. Alvarez:

7-30-10 from: - http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/29/scouting-notes-cape-cod-league-all-stars - • R.J. Alvarez, RHP, Florida Atlantic -- Heading into just his sophomore campaign, Alvarez stood out as one of the best pure arms in the proceedings. Alvarez sat 94-95 mph with his fastball, reaching 96 a handful of times. He has worked exclusively in relief on the Cape but Alvarez showed the secondary pitches to potentially be a successful starter at the next level. He mixed a sharp, downer curveball at 78-80, which flashed plus, as well as a quality changeup at 80-84.

103. Carl Edwards:

7-29-10 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=8531042802 - RHP, Carl Edwards, talk about your stringbean pitchers, this kid has a very quick arm with hard bite on his 12/6 cb, from Newberry SC, 6'2 1/2 150 soaking wet, was upper 80's mostly and threw strikes. He's also one of the oldest participants as he turns 18 soon and will be a 2011 senior.

104. Joseph Flynn:

8-2 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/08/02/cape-cod-baseball-league-players-of-the-week-6 - COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Joseph Flynn (2012), Wareham RHP - Joseph Flynn (Franklin Pierce) of Wareham has embraced his new role as starter, earning the Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week honor in his first week on the job. Before the beginning of this week, Flynn had been a reliable middle reliever for the Gatemen, allowing five earned runs in 12.1 innings over nine appearances. But in his two starts this week, Flynn proved he belongs in the starting rotation. On July 25, he received a no-decision for six strong innings, allowing only one earned run. Five days later, he earned a win with seven shutout innings of three-hit ball. His efforts lowered his ERA to 2.13, good for third on the Gatemen staff. The Plymouth native was a two-time Boston Globe Player of the Year. He went 5-2 in 12 starts as a freshman this year Franklin Pierce University.

105. Patrick Hope:

8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - Patrick Hope, rhp, Broken Arrow (Okla.) HS - Scouts always enjoy watching a pitcher who has a hellacious curveball, probably since they don’t have to try to hit it. Hope’s wicked, low 70s hammer was the best breaking ball on display in Long Beach, showing near-perfect two-plane break, depth and tilt. Not that Hope is just a curveballer. At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Hope has the requisite angular and projectable frame, plus he is able to locate his fastball well. With his fastball, Hope lures hitters into a false sense of security, delivering a consistent series of 89 mph four-seamers. Suddenly, Hope will step on the gas pedal and fire a fastball in the 91-92 range.

106. Rio Ruiz:

8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - Rio Ruiz, rhp, Bishop Amat HS, La Puente, Calif. - Ruiz suffered through a poor tryout at Westmont College in Santa Barbara and did not make either Brewers AC team. Named to the Yankees squad, he has come to life in Long Beach, showing flashes of exciting bat speed as a hitter and a power pitching arm. Stoutly built at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Ruiz shows hitters no mercy by pounding home a 91-93 fastball that peaks close to 94. His 75 mph curve is a bit of an afterthought. A member of the 2012 class, Ruiz has two more years to exhibit his intriguing array of skills. At this stage, scouts seem evenly split on whether they prefer Ruiz as a pitcher or position player.

8-12-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=117 - Yankees infielder Rio Ruiz (6'2" 190, L/R, 2012) from Bishop Amat HS-La Puente (CA) for some reason was not included on the Brewers (Blue) team but it is not because he isn't good enough. In one at-bat he smacked a 91 mph fastball for a 2-RBI triple off Brickhouse. He has a plus arm across the diamond as well as having plus bat speed and fringe average speed. Ruiz also pitches and was a steady 91-92 in one inning, with a usable breaking ball.

107. Jerrick Suiter

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html - RHP - Valparaiso (Ind.) HS Suiter is an athletic, three-sport star with a solid 6-foot-3 frame. His fastball has gotten up to 93 mph and there is more velocity in his future. Suiter's secondary pitches are developing, with the makings of a quality curveball and changeup. He has also showed some promise behind the plate as well.

108. Carson Baranik

8-12-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html - RHP - Parkway HS, Bossier City, La. - Baranik is a big, strong righty with an impressive three-pitch mix. His fastballs sits comfortably in the low 90s with life and his curveball is a knee-buckler with tight rotation and good depth—a legitimate swing-and-miss pitch. He also shows feel for a changeup with good arm speed. He's committed to Louisiana State.

109. Trevor Megill:

8-13-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=122 - The Brewers had three new pitchers toe the slab today and all were solid, but none of them were throwing up big time stuff, then again, two of them are 2012 grads to keep tabs on for the future. RHP Trevor Megill (6'7"7 220, Marina HS, Huntington Beach, CA) and LHP Cole Irvin (6'4" 170, Servite HS, Yorba Linda, CA) are their names. Megill was 85-89 with good movement on the fastball and a usable 73-74 mph curveball. He also likes to use his change-up that has a chance to be an average pitch.

110. Sam Johnson:

8-14-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=126 - The one with the best present day stuff was RHP Sam Johnson (Westview HS, Beaverton, OR). He is a 6'0" right-hander, which is normally a death sentence description for a pitcher, but is isn't for Johnson because he has BIG stuff. He was firing easy 91-93 mph fastballs and mixing in his power 76-79 mph curveball and buzzed right through the Yankee hitters. The amazing thing about Johnson is the ease with which he generates that velocity out of a very average body.

111. Cody Poteet:

8-12-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=117 - Right-hander Cody Poteet (6'0" 170) from Christian HS-Bonita (CA) was impressive with one of the best pure curveballs we have seen so far. He was 87-89 mph with the fastball but his moneymaker is a 74-77 mph overhand hammer that he has feel for.

112. Kevin Moriarity:

8-13-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=122 - The last Nats pitcher was a kid that I felt was a real talent, but a projection-type pitcher that still had some ways to go before catching the pro eyes. Well, RHP Kevin Moriarity announced that he has arrived ahead of schedule because he was steadily 88-90 in his one inning today, which is a bump from the 84-86 mph he was the throwing two days ago. I was speaking to a scout friend of mine that covers the Northwest and he said he loved Moriarity, but as a projection guy, and he hoped he didn't start to show that well until the spring. We had a text message exchange during the game when I was giving him the velocities for Moriarity, to which he said, "Really? I didn't want him to show that well here!" This kid is going to keep on throwing harder and harder. The cat is out of the bag.

113. John Curtiss

8-12-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-school/events/under-armour-preseason-all-america-tournament/2010/2610524.html - RHP - Carroll HS, Southlake, Texas Curtiss has a tall, lean frame that is ideal for a righthander. His fastball sits comfortably in the 90-92 mph range and has touched 95 at times. He spins his breaking ball well and mixes in a workable changeup.

114. Nick Piscotty:

8-14-10 from: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=126 - RHP Nick Piscotty from Northern California was also sharp again. He was in about the same velocity range as the other night (87-88) and once again very effectively used his good overhand curveball to ease through the Yankee hitters. One thing that works really well for Piscotty is his delivery. His lower half comes at the hitters before his upper body and his arm, which throws off the timing of the hitters and creates good deception. He was uncommitted heading into this event and no doubt will have all kinds of college opportunities now.
