LAST GAME: Binghamton and Altoona battled for 12 innings

before the Curve came away with a 6-5 victory courtesy of

Miles Durham two-out RBI single in the 12th off Eric Niesen.

The bulk of the game’s run-scoring came in the fourth when

Altoona broke on top 4-0 against Robert Carson. Hector Gimenez

capped the frame with a two-run double to deep center.

Binghamton retaliated in the bottom of the frame with

three runs of their own off Justin Wilson. Jordany Valdespin

started the scoring with a two-run double to right. The B-Mets

rallied to tie in the seventh on Valdespin RBI single. Both

teams tallied runs in the eighth to keep the score even at five,

sending the contest into extras. Michael Dubee picked up the

win for Altoona with two scoreless innings of relief. Valdespin

led Binghamton with a three-hit showing, including two RBI.

Carson allowed four runs over six innings in the start.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Chris Schwinden will

make his 15th start of the year for Binghamton tonight. His

last start was a masterpiece at Harrisburg August 11 when he

limited the Senators to a run on two hits over six innings, but

took a no-decision. Schwinden is 4-7 with a 5.56 ERA over

79.1 innings. Opposing hitters are hitting .306 against him.

He opened the year with St. Lucie (High-A) and went 3-0 with a

1.83 ERA over 34.1 innings. He spent most of 2009 with

Savannah (Low-A) where he was 9-6 with a 3.28 ERA over

115.1 innings. Schwinden was the Mets’ 22nd round selection

in the June 2008 draft out of Fresno Pacific University.

LHP Rudy Owens is due for his 24th turn in the Curve’s rotation.

He worked five scoreless innings in his last start August

15 versus New Hampshire. He allowed five hits and struck out

six in the no-decision. Owens is 9-6 with 2.64 ERA over 133

innings and has issued just 22 walks. The southpaw ranks

second in the Eastern League in ERA, fifth in strikeouts (112),

first in WHIP (1.01) and second in BB/9 IP (1.49). Owens was

named the South Atlantic League’s most outstanding pitcher

last season when he went 10-1 with a 1.70 ERA over 19

starts (100.2 IP) with West Virginia (Low-A). The Pirates took

him in the 28th round of the June 2006 draft and signed him

as a draft and follow.
