B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon was tagged for a career-high 11 runs on 11 hits, including two three-run home runs in a 11-3, rain-shortened loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats last night. Cohoon lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up seven extra-base hits. The Fisher Cats jumped out early with a seven-run second inning as every batter that got on base came around to score, capped by Mike McDade’s three-run home run. After Binghamton collected a run in the top of the third on Josh Satin’s RBI double, New Hampshire answered back with an RBI single by Mark Sobolewski in the bottom half of the frame and a three-run home run from Moises Sierra in the fourth. Battling the ever-present rain and a large deficit, Brahiam Maldonado plated two runs with a double off Fisher Cats starter Zach Stewart. With the game official after 4.5 innings, the teams waited through a 36-minute delay before the contest was officially called.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brad Holt makes his eighth start of the season and fourth against the Fisher Cats. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks in a loss to the Trenton Thunder in his most recent start on May 13. In three starts this year against New Hampshire Holt has logged 17.0 innings, compiled a 0.53 ERA, struck out 15, and earned three no-decisions.

RHP Rey Gonzalez will make his eighth start of the year and second against the B-Mets. The Cuban is on a four-game win-ning streak, having allowed one run on six hits in 6.0 innings in his previous start against the Reading Phillies on May 13. Gonzalez gave up one run in 6.0 innings in a no-decision ver-sus the B-Mets in the second game of a doubleheader on 5/8.

GOOD RIDDANCE, MANCHESTER: The B-Mets will be happy to play their final regular season game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium today. In eight games on the road, this season, Bing-hamton has gone 2-6. In those six losses, the B-Mets have been out-scored 34-12 and out-hit 52-36.

ONE TO FORGET: Mark Cohoon’s 11 runs allowed last night set a new career-high. His previous highest total came when he gave up seven runs to the Portland Sea Dogs on July 28, 2010. The 11 hits allowed matched a career-high which he set against the Akron Aeros in his first start as a B-Met on June 26, 2010. Cohoon actually earned the win in that game.

FIVE-INNING TIDBIT: Rain shortened last night’s game to five innings. The last time a B-Mets’ game was ended after just five frames came on June 28, 2004 when Binghamton lost to the Akron Aeros 1-0 at NYSEG Stadium.
