May 13, 2011 – The New York Mets have announced that they have acquired OF BUBBA BELL in a trade with the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations. New York has also signed INF LUIS FIGUEROA to a minor league deal. Both players have been added to the Bisons active roster.
To make room, OF LUCAS DUDA has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 11, and C SALOMON MANRIQUEZ has been transferred to Double-A Binghamton.
Bell, 28, began the season with Triple-A Columbus. In eight games, the outfielder hit .292 (7-24) with two RBI. Last season, Bell hit .293 (104-351) with six home runs, 49RBI and 13 stolen bases in 104 games with Triple-A Pawtucket.
Figueroa, 37, most recently played with Triple-A Nashville in the Brewers organization. He was signed by Milwaukee on April 17 and played nine games before being released. In that time with the Sounds, Figueroa hit .296 (8-27) with three RBI.
Figueroa split the 2010 between Triple-A Las Vegas and Salt Lake and combined to hit .319 (146-457) with five home runs and 71RBI in 115 games.
Duda was hitting .241 (20-83) with three home runs and nine RBI in 24 games with the Bisons. Manriquez averaged .306 (11-36) with a home run and six RBI in 18 games.
