Press Release: - Trenton 3, Binghamton 2

Jeurys Familia fired seven scoreless innings, but was robbed of a win when Austin Krum hit a walk-off, two-run triple to beat Binghamton 3-2 at Waterfront Park Sunday afternoon. The late-inning heroics gave Trenton the series win 3-1.



Binghamton (13-21) carried a 2-0 lead into the ninth when Erik Turgeon was summoned to close it out. However, the Thunder came out swinging. Jose Gil led off with a double off the wall in left and was chased home when Melky Mesa hit a two-bagger to right-center. With the tying run at second and nobody out, Jose Pirela sacrificed Mesa to third for the first out. The B-Mets brought the infield in with the tying run 90 feet away. Ray Kruml stepped in next and scorched a groundball at first baseman Allan Dykstra, who looked the runner back and forced Kruml at first.



Turgeon then walked Addison Maruszak to put the winning run on base leading to Krum, who smacked a fastball off the top of the wall in right field for a triple. Mesa and Maruszak scored to give the Thunder the walkoff win. It was Turgeon’s second blown save of the season and the 10th for Binghamton.



Familia was dialed in from the get go as he retired the first four hitters of the game before allowing his first hit. The hard-throwing Dominican cruised through seven innings and registered six strikeouts before giving way to the bullpen.



Trenton (20-17) countered Familia with top prospect Dellin Betances, who also impressed. He cruised through the first two innings with four strikeouts before suffering a bout of wildness in the third. Jean Luc Blaquiere led off the frame and reached on an error by shortstop Jose Pirela. After Carlos Guzman flied out, Jordany Valdespin singled and Raul Reyes walked to load the bases. Betances went to a full count on Josh Satin before the B-Mets leading hitter worked an RBI walk to put Binghamton out in front 1-0.



Betances left on the hook after allowing an unearned run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings. Cory Arbiso followed and allowed the B-Mets an insurance run in the eighth inning. Satin led off with a double and moved to third on Brahiam Maldonado’s groundout to short. Arbiso proceeded to walk the next two hitters to load the bases for Blaquiere. The catcher lined a single to center to score Satin, but Dykstra was thrown out at the plate by Mesa from center trying to score from second.



Roy Merritt and Ricky Brooks combined to retire the side in the eighth to send the game to the ninth where the game unraveled on the B-Mets.



Tim Norton earned the win for the Thunder with a scoreless ninth, which featured three strikeouts.
