OF Cory Vaughn A-Savannah: - Vaughn’s season in Savannah this year reminds me a lot of Matt den Dekker’s last season. Both seem to just blow themselves through the competition, which is how you earn yourself a bump up. There really isn’t a list where everyone gets a turn. The ones that go on are the ones that prove their talent stands out above the rest of league they are currently playing in. That’s what Vaughn has already done this year. He’s leading the Sally League in OBP and seems the be able to drive in runners at will. His only shortfall so far this season is the fact that his teammates that hit before him haven’t gotten on base enough. Thursday’s game was a perfect example. CF Darrell Ceciliani led off the game with a walk and Vaughn knocked him in. There was no one on base the next time he got up, so, what the hell, he hit a home run anyway. As you know, I didn’t like this pick, but I was wrong. I was never wrong about the person though. He’s a great kid and he needs to move to Florida.
SP Darin Gorski A+ St. Lucie – BABIP is a funny stat that needs to be looked at carefully. A good BABIP is below 3.00. Here’s Gorski’s problem. He strikes out one out of every three batters he faces. Of course his BABIP will be high. He’s already reduced the base number in third. The Mets didn’t even start him out this season in the rotation, which changed when Kyle Allen hiccuped a few times. Last night, he decided to up his BABIP even more by striking out almost 50% of the batters he faced. That translated into 13-Ks in 7.2-IP which gives him a seasonal total of 63-Ks in only 41.2-IP. That’s crazy. Did I mention he’s a 6-4 lefty?
2B/1B Josh Satin was asked to play AA this spring so he could get more time in the field. Seems the club had been enjoying his time as a DH in the system, but a boy does have to field in the majors, right? Josh said fine, and went back to where he hit .308 last season, has hit .305 so far this season, and has only committed seven errors playing both first and second. Reese Havens should be done with his St. Lucie rehab sometime this week and Satin needs to pack his backs for Buffalo. He deserves it.
