Pelotero is an interesting look at the world
of International Free Agency, specifically in the Dominican Republic. The two
players that are looked at closely in this movie are lesser known Jean Carlos Batista and top prospect Miguel Sano. I enjoyed it, which is rare for me with
documentaries. The movie takes a look at the harsh reality that exists in the
Dominican. The Sano family had to endure a long investigation that really had
no conclusion. After that, he was able to sign and begin his career with a team
he chose, not the fate he was nearly forced into by the film's antagonist, Rene Gayo of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I won't get
too deep into how it unfolds but it is an enthralling story that was told very
well by the film makers. - http://www.mlbprospectguide.com/2012/07/ballplayer-pelotero-review.html
MLB - Mets:
Joel
Sherman - Ruben Tejada keeps having good ABs.
Fell behind Hudson 0-2, worked 8-pitch AB b4 lining out to RF
Adam
Rubin - It's the shortest
outing and most runs allowed by Chris Young since
June 14, 2009 with the Padres vs. Angels
.
.
The Mets will pick up
an extra pick at 76th overall in 2013 because they did not sign 2nd
round pick Teddy Stankiewicz.
AAA – Buffalo:
RHP Jeurys Famila takes
the hill for his International League-leading 19th start of the season tonight.
The righty is coming off his best start of the season in Syracuse on July 6. In
that outing, he allowed just one run in a season-best 6.1 innings of work. On
the road this season, Familia is 5-2 with a 3.53ERA and 42K in 43.1 innings of
work.
Tonight –
W, 8-2
See, this is the kind
of outing that just confuses the shit out of you… 6.0-IP, 0-R, 6-K, 1-BB, 88-62…
imaging if he could just command like this consistently and walk out of the
clubhouse next spring, next to Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler, to
the sounds of the soundtrack from “Three Amigos”?
2B Josh Satin (.293) (told ya he’d end the season over .300) hit his 10th home run of
the season. It sure took a lot of games over a lot of years for Josh to get
back to playing where he started.
AA-Binghamton:
RHP Cory Mazzoni (2-2, 4.50) makes his fifth start with
the B-Mets and first against the SeaWolves. Mazzoni tossed seven shutout
innings in a win over the Altoona Curve in his last start on July 7. Mazzoni
allowed three hits and struck out six to snap a two-game losing skid. Mazzoni
is searching for his first win at NYSEG Stadium after going 0-2 with a 10.80
ERA in his two starts during Binghamton’s last homestand. Selected in the 2nd
round of the 2011 draft out of North Carolina State, Mazzoni started his season
with the St. Lucie Mets (High-A), going 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA in 12 starts in the
Florida State League.
RHP Patrick Cooper (2-2, 4.71) makes his eighth start of the
year with the SeaWolves and second against the B-Mets. The Kentucky native
comes off a loss to the Harrisburg Senators on July 8. He conceded two runs on
five hits over seven innings. Cooper started the season with the Lakeland
Flying Tigers (High-A) before getting promoted to join the SeaWolves bullpen on
April 12. He has three stints with Erie this season. The Kentucky native went
1-0 with a 2.53 ERA in five relief appearances with Lakeland. He was selected
in the 14th round of the 2010 draft out of Bradley University.
G-2 - LHP Mark Cohoon (4-7,
3.86) takes the mound for his 14th B-Mets start of the year and third versus
the SeaWolves. Cohoon earned the win in his most recent start against the
Richmond Flying Squirrels on July 6. The southpaw allowed one run over seven
innings to collect his first victory since May 27. In two starts against Erie
in 2012, Cohoon has gone 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Cohoon made two starts with the
Buffalo Bisons (AAA) in June, going 0-2 with a 14.63 ERA. Tonight’s game marks
the most starts for Cohoon with the B-Mets in one season.
RHP David Kopp (0-0, 9.22) makes his first start in an Erie SeaWolves
jersey after making seven relief appearances. Signed by the Detroit Tigers as a
minor league free against in mid-May, Kopp made his debut with Erie on June 6.
He faced the B-Mets on June 22 at Jerry Uht Park and was tagged for six runs on
six hits over 1.2 innings.
Tonight –
Game 1 – W, 2-0
Game 2 – W, 5-4
SP Cory Mazzoni pitched a 7-inning GC gem. This is 14
scoreless innings over his last two outings, after his AA ‘welcome’ of 10-IP,
13-R in the previous two outings.
The other important AA
news is Wilmer Flores (DH) is holding his own.
One hit… BA to .358. YOU ALL GOT THAT,
RIGHT? “AA”… WHERE YOU SEPARATE THE MEN
FROM THE BOYS… .358… 19-YEARS OLD
Nice outing my SP Mark Cohoon – 6.0-IP, 0-ER, 6-K, 1-BB, 97-62
BIG DEAL HERE…
WILMER FLORES IS PLAYING 1B
Look, I
know there a bunch of you out there in the Internet-land that love Robert Carson. Folks, you have to
move on here. Robert Carson is not going to be a major league pitcher. Harry Carson has a better chance and
there are odds being taken on Johnny Carson, who is dead. Josh Edgin just threw 0.2
scoreless innings in Atlanta. Pick a new hero.
Jefry Marte walkoff win.
A+ - St. Lucie: -
Tonight –
L, 2-8
Let’s just say that SP Erik Goeddel did
not have any fun, Hamilton Bennett had a
frustrating time giving up three unearned runs, and John
Church closed with two excellent innings at a level he should be way past.
DH Jason Bay went 0-3 which is
fine. Save them for the Dodgers.
A – Savannah: -
Tonight –
W, 10-6
Savannah got sot of
lucky here. Both SP Alex Panteleodis amd Marcos Camerena did not have a quality outing, but the
bats brought the Sand Gants an away game win.
DH Dustin Lawley (2-4, 3-R, 3-RBI), LF Greg Pron (2-4, 2-doubles, 2-RBIs) and RF Charles Thurber (2-5, 1-R, 1-RBI) did have fun.
Regarding ‘Pants’, this
was his 13th start of the season. He has only gone past five innings
once in the past 10 starts. Stretching it, I give him three QCs in the past
10-G. That isn’t going to hack it, folks.
A-Low – Brooklyn:
Tonight –
L, 2-5
Errors by 1B Alexander Sanchez (7) and RF Jonathan
Clark (1) cost them this game.
Rookie – Kingsport:
Tonight –
Rained out again. I can’t
believe it. They’re going to have to move to another city to get this season
in.
DSL Mets:
DH Miquel Leaf – 1-2, 1,R, 1-RBI, .348
RP Gaby Almonte – 3.2-IP, 0-ER, 7-K, 1.33
LF Vincente Lupo – 1-3,
.355
