John From Albany - All Time Mets Opening Day Lineup

With the 2020 Mets Opening Day scheduled for today, here is a look at the All-Time Opening Day Lineup based on number of Opening Day Starting Lineup appearances.

Pitcher: Tom Seaver 11 Opening Day Starts.  Other Notables include Dwight Gooden-8; Opening Days Johan Santana-4; Tom Glavine-4.

Catcher: Jerry Grote-9 Opening Day Starts followed by MikePiazza-7; Todd Hundley-6; John Stearns-5; and Gary Carter-5

First Base: (Tie) Keith Hernandez-6; Ed Kranepool-6; CarlosDelgado-4; Ike Davis-4.

Third Base: David Wright-12 (the Mets All-Time Opening Day Player); Howard Johnson-7; Hubie Brooks-4; Robin Ventura-3.

DH – Michael Conforto-1.  That’s right, in 2016 the Mets opened the season in Kansas City and Conforto was the DH.  Looks like YoenisCespedes will give him company in the all time Mets Opening Day List when he DHes in today’s game.

I wonder what Gooden and Seaver were combined in their 19 opening day starts, which equal one third of all OD starts in Mets history, amazingly.
