On Tuesday, Baseball America released
their mid-season updated Mets Prospect List which I list below.
Lots of great prospects. But I have a problem with Baseball America’s
list and other similar prospect lists. No
Wilmer
Reyes.
Seriously?
As
I have said before, how many current Mets minor leaguers or Mets
top prospects were the hands down MVP of a team that won a championship?
How many are clearly the most exciting player on the field with
great defense, hitting, and very aggressive base running?
Wilmer’s
2019 numbers: .333/.350/.441 - .791 OPS; 5 HR; 33 RBI; 12 steals; 61 games;
229 at bats; 74 Hits; 32 Runs; 8 2B; 3 3B; 12 SB;
Wilmer is a very good fielder and he plays the game in a
manner that fans will love. He is
extremely aggressive on the bases and he backs up that aggression with speed.
Could be his age?
Wilmer will turn 23 in December. Signing as an 18 year old in the Dominican
Republic in 2016, Wilmer will also be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this
year.
It could also be that last year Wilmer hit 63 points higher
than he previous best season (2017) and had a OPS 77 points higher than his
best (2018).
Maybe he is the next un-herald Mets prospect like Jacob
deGrom, Pete Alonso,
and Jeff
McNeil to come up and make an impact.
If other teams simply go by the Baseball America list, guess
we won’t have to worry about losing him.

I wonder where Wilmer Reyes even is right now, Is he in Brooklyn in camp? It would be weird if he were not there, given he was the star of the Brooklyn team last year.
He has a long way to go to match up to Gimenez, though.
I see Tylor Megill slipped off the Top 30 list. Still # 30 on Mets prospect list, and it says this about Megill:
He rewarded the organization with a promising pro debut, then climbed from Columbia to Binghamton while averaging 11.6 strikeouts-per-nine in his first full season.
At 6-foot-7, 230 pounds, Megill, much like his 6-foot-8, 235-pound brother, is an imposing presence on the mound. Though he averaged a little better than 93 mph and touched 96 with his fastball in 2019, Megill’s heater consistently plays at a higher effective velocity due to its high spin rate and the right-hander’s massive extension toward the plate. He complements his impressive fastball with a hard, mid-80s slider that flashes above-average with a ton of spin, and together the two pitches helped Megill strike out 30.5 percent of the batters he faced in ’19. A changeup gives him a third pitch, albeit a below-average one that will need to be developed.
The crossfire in Megill’s delivery helps to enhance his stuff, and hitters seldom look comfortable in the box when facing the towering right-hander. It can detract from his fastball command at times, causing him to miss arm-side with the pitch, but scouts generally like his arm action and ability to generate velocity without too much effort. He will continue to work as a starter for the time being, but could reach the big leagues in a hurry if the Mets move him to the bullpen.

Really miss minor league games. It would have been great to see Mr. Megill in Binghamton this year and others in Syracuse and Brooklyn. Hopefully they will figure this COVID stuff come fall and set up the expanded Fall leagues as have been discussed.

Reyes has never been 'red' prospect to me. Maybe I have been blinded by the brilliance of both Mauricio and Gimenez.
I don't worry about his age, other than the fact he will only play as high as Binghamton next season.
I don't know what his future as a Met will be. Rosario, Gimenez, and Mauricio seem to have the three infield positions blanketed.
I wonder if Mauricio is filling out - still looked twiggy back in March.
