Good Morning. Happy Birthday to Nelson Doubleday and Ty Kelly.  The Mets lose 6-0 against the Yankees, and Ownership Bids may be down to two.

Mets Links:

Yankees 6 Mets 0 (Box Score). Mets only had 3 hits total – two from Amed Rosario (including a double) and one from Robinson Cano. Yankees hit 5 home runs – including two from Aaron Judge.  

Corey Oswalt started went 3 innings giving up two solo home runs (Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez), 5 hits, 2 Ks, 2 BBs. 
Hunter Strickland came in men on 2nd and 3rd, no outs, and bailed out Oswalt in the 4th by striking out Matt Duffy and Thario Estrada and getting Aaron Judge to pop up to end the inning. 


Drew Smith pitched a scoreless 5th Inning then gave up two home runs before Chasen Shreve got the final out in the 6th.

Seth Lugo threw two scoreless innings.

Mets.Com: Céspedes' outfield test not quite as planned.  "The only ball hit even remotely in Yoenis Céspedes direction was an Aaron Judge homer that sailed well over his head, over the wall and into the seats."

NY Post: Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes looks ‘natural’ in return to left field. “The drop step going back that he did tonight — unfortunately the ball went over the wall — but it looked natural for me,’’ manager Luis Rojas said.

NY Post: Mets explain mind-boggling Robinson Cano lineup decision. “With Cano, having him in the middle of the order, we want to get as [many] at-bats as we could get with him missing a little bit of camp,’’ Rojas said of Cano being absent for unspecified reasons during spring training 2.0. “His profile is to hit there in the middle. He showed up in great shape and with his bat, we all feel comfortable he will deliver for us.”

1965: Seven is a lucky number for the Braves as they score seven runs in the 7th to beat the Mets, 7 - 1. Hank Aaron's two-run homer, off Larry Miller, is the capper on the scoring.

1985: Driving in seven runs on two homers, Darryl Strawberry leads the Mets to a 16 - 4 drubbing of the visiting Braves. Straw's first home run is a grand slam in the 1st inning and his next is a three-run home run in the 4th. The Mets also get homers from Howard Johnson, Danny Heep and Clint Hurdle.

1995 - Mets OF Brett Butler strokes four hits, but it is not enough to prevent an 8 - 6 New York loss to the Cardinals. The hits give Butler 15 for his last four games, one shy of the record of 16 set by Brooklyn's Milt Stock in 1925.

2014 - In his fifth major league start, Odrisamer Despaigne comes within four outs of throwing the first no-hitter in the history of the San Diego Padres. The Mets' Daniel Murphy breaks his bid with a two-out double in the 8th, and David Wright follows with a single that ties the score at 1 - 1, ending Despaigne's day. Joaquin Benoit is the winner after the Padres score in the bottom of the 9th for a 2- 1 win.

Gsellman down depth chart but still important. Get well quick.

Hitting will come. Of course Speed and defense does not slump as often if at all.

The Yankees look focused on the sprint ahead. The Mets seem to think they’ll turn it on when they need to. Ramos absence hurts, as does the Mets insistence that Cano bats third - especially after missing three weeks. The new owner needs to hire Buck Showalter and tell BVW to build the team and that’s it. No more opinions on his buddies and no more trading for them. I just don’t think Rojas has the status to stand up to Cespedes, Cano, and some of these well known Latin players.

One obvious move--put Smith at 1B and get rid of the overhyped bum who can't hit (2 K, 2 weak GBs last night) or field. If he had saved a few of the throwing errors in the 2 games we might have kept the games close. Yeah, he hit a bunch of homers last year, but last year is over and we have to move on.

UGH!
