It has basically been a soap opera and a struggle, but now
the sale comes down to two Parties to purchase the Mets, Steve Cohen or Harris –
Blitzer. The A-Rod and J-Lo group is running a close third and it has got to a
point where everybody would like to see a deal put together now. It has gone on
for too long. You can imagine it has been exhausting for the Wilpon family
during these difficult times before the season or what is left of it begins.
They will no longer invest significant funds in the team if they do not find a
buyer for the 2021 season.
Josh Harris and David Blitzer were serious about making a
run to buy the team and add the club to their portfolio of teams, which
includes the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, but they
decided to purchase a $140 million minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers,
which makes me believe that they will not be the party to purchase the Mets.
A-Rod and J-Lo do not have as much money as the others, but
they do have enough for a chance to purchase the team. Mike Repole, a member of
A-Rod’s group takes pride as a marketer and feels that baseball needs a
marketing wake-up call. I think he is right about that since some fans may have
lost interest in the sport. Baseball basically needs to be re-invented. Repole
also feels that since he and the others are from the New York City area they could
help bring New York City back from the devastation that the pandemic caused.
Some of the owners would like to see A-Rod purchase the team,
because they feel he has done a great job of self- education, which helped put
himself in position to be part of the process. They feel with his experience
from playing the game and a good head for business he might be able to bring
some perspective that other ownership groups wouldn’t have. A-Rod has worked
very hard at it.
A-Rod prepared
himself quite well for a business opportunity like this as he attended
high-profile investment conferences and has started his own investment firm,
A-Rod Corp which had helped him find success as a businessman recently plus he
has invested in real estate deals. I think
he is destined to become a successful owner.

I think A-Rod is all show and no go. They may not want to face the publicity of minority owner Cohen pulling the rug out from under them, so I think the Blitzer sports conglomerate is the real front runner.
We could use a Blizk Krieg at Citi, led by Pete Alonso.
I have my doubts that the Arod group money wise will be any different than the Wilpons. That’s why I want Cohen to be the owner. Give Arod a seat at the table for a minority share like Jeter has with Marlins and let him Run the baseball team and JLo run the some of the marketing.

I'm so rooting for Cohen to buy the Mets. Deep, deep pockets, life long Mets fan, and seems to be fanatical about winning. I want the Mets to be the team going got it and not worried where the next debt payment is coming from. If we have learned anything from Jeter and the Marlins, having the capital is crucial to winning.
Tom, In my opinion, I think Cohen will eventually buy the Mets. He has the most money. Since Blitzer just bought the Steelers I don't think he would be able to be able to outbid Cohen.
May the one with the deepest pockets and greatest commitment to winning be the one to buy the Mets.
