Scouting Report - RHP - Jake Hunter

 Jake Hunter

RHP 6-4 210 East Rowan HS (NC)

11-9-20 - PG -

Jake Hunter (2021 Rockwell, NC) is as competitive as any pitcher in the class. He finished his travel ball career in stunning fashion throwing a ton of quality strikes using his refined three pitch mix. Given his stuff, 6-foot-4 frame, and pitchability he is a great candidate to continue to make jumps.

8-23-20  -  Salisbury Post -

The tall, talented 17-year-old has been firmly committed to East Carolina’s baseball program since the summer of 2019 and the NCHSAA has a plan in place for him to have a senior season that will start in late April and run into June.

Hunter will be expected to provided Strasburg-like mound outings for East Rowan and eventually for East Carolina. He’s almost 6-foot-4 and he’s a 90-mph guy. He’s hit 91 on the radar gun. More importantly, he can work consistently at 89-90 and command three pitches.

Jake Hunter is a 2021 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Rockwell, NC who attends East Rowan. Large frame with broad, strong build; ran 60 yard dash in 8.16 seconds. Primary righthanded pitcher, lower slot slinger arm stroke, stabs through back but stays inline, hides the ball very well, fastball worked 76-80 mph with lots of life from that tough slot, showed slider with good bite, mixed in changeup as well with good dive and flashed curveball. Hits from even-based stance with toe tap trigger, steep entry to hitting zone, torques hips well, showed ability to keep head on ball, contact skills are solid. Worked out at first base, showed ability to throw accurately from multiple arm slots, clocked up to 74 mph across the diamond.

Jake Hunter, RHP, South Charlotte Panthers

Hunter had less of a breakout than he did a cherry on top to cap off an outstanding year on the circuit. Hunter seemed to dominate in every start he showed up at over the summer and he did again on the big stage in Fort Myers with a complete game, eleven-strikeout performance at 8 am against one of the favorites in the event. He’s got an impressive repertoire with real feel command as his combination of youth and size could lead to a rise up boards come next spring.
