Tom Brennan - A Mere 192 Runs Behind at the Half Way Point

A Jaylen Palmer picture posted by Mack when Palmer was drafted.

If the Mets were stockings, they wouldn't have any runs in them.

Puns aside...

Run Disparity is simply enormous.

As in...

Astros….467 runs.

Mets…275 runs.

Difference? 192 runs.

Yes, I know, Houston has played 6 more games.

But I know this, too…the Mets' offense is spectacularly bad.

What to do?

Perhaps trade them en masse?

Or...just be patient, as they keep telling us to be.

Heck, it's only been a half a season so far that they've sucked.

So...be patient.  It's the peanuts that are making you crazy.

Other Thoughts:

When St Lucie is currently one of the Mets minors teams playing daily, why not put Adrian Hernandez back down there, rather than playing at a level higher, in Brooklyn, where he is hitting .133 in 75 at bats, with just 2 RBIs and a multitude of Ks?

Jaylen Palmer is hitting much better of late for St Lucie, and his Ks are down nicely.  His OBP is rising fast, too into the .370s. Very high OBP since June 1 - well over .400.

Also, he stole just one out of 4 tries in 2019, but is already 18 for 20 in fewer games in 2021. Good size at 6'4", 210.  I was down on him earlier, due to his K rate, but I am totally up on him now.

Lastly, my guy Jose Peroza has 32 RBIs in 143 at bats, with his .429 OBP.  Not shabby. Quadruple those ABs to 572 ABs, and he's have 128 RBIs.  Pete Alonso had 120 RBIs in 597 ABs in his killer 2019, as a point of comparison.

That's why Jose is in my Top 10 for now.  After watching the Mets not score runs all year, it is nice to see a guy who can drive runs in.  And Palmer is playing more and more like a Top 10 guy too.  Once Sherveyn Newton got hurt, it freed up more playing time for these guys.  They're both HOT.

Good day, fellas.

1. Minor League development is never about stats.

2. You can't demote players to a lower level just because they hit better there. They need to develop at the current level they are on.

3. So little time in the life of a minor league player is spend developing their game out of game day playing. Sure, they shag a few balls and hit 5-10 50 mph pitches in the cage, but that is about it.

4. As for pitching, usage of new pitches are done in game causing elevated ERAs. That's fine if, by the end of the season, that new pitch has command to it.

5. Less than 5% of the players drafted make it to the pro level and most come from the first 3 rounds.

6. You just have to sit back and enjoy minor league baseball.

Mack, I hear you, but Adrian had just a few ABs in the Gulf League in 2019, skipped over what in 2019 would have been 2 levels and straight to Low A. Greg Guerrero on the other hand just started playing for that GCL team, a demotion. Granted that it was after a long injury period.

They also demoted Quinn Brody from AAA to AA, which seemed to help him. I would do it with Hernandez, based on how much he is struggling so far.

We would'nt hit water if we fell out of a boat it's gotten that bad and the old saying "it's summer we'll start hitting now" line is getting old but again how about signing Puig as we don't have to give up anything.
