The Brooklyn Cyclones pummeled the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by a final score of 14-5. The Cyclones are on fire as of late, winning 7 in a row and 9 of their last 10 to improve their record to 29-42. Hunter Parsons (1-0) earned the win, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, walking 1, allowing 1 hit, and striking out 2. His ERA improves to 5.03. BlueClaws starting pitcher Jonathon Hughes (3-5) was credited with the loss after allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and 5 earned runs in 4.1 innings.
DH Edgardo Fermin went 2-3 with 2 walks, 5 RBIs, and 4 runs scored out of the 2 hole. He hit two home runs of his own, both of which came right before a home run from Mauricio. First baseman Jeremy Vazquez went yard leading off the 4th inning and 2B Luis Gonzalez added a 2-run homer in the 5th.
Mets top prospect Francisco Alvarez had another good night at the dish, going 2-4 with a pair of run-scoring singles and crossing home once himself. As a Cyclone, the 19-year-old catcher is now up to a .791 OPS and 115 wRC+.
Shortstop and Mets top prospect Ronny Mauricio, hitting third, went 2-4 with a walk, 2 solo home runs, and 3 runs scored, raising his season OPS to .748. Mauricio's first home run came in the 5th inning, a 113 MPH blast that cleared the right-field concourse. It was his 12th of the season, a new career-high. Ronny made it a 13-5 ballgame the very next inning when his 13th HR of the year, another solo shot that just cleared the wall in right-center. It was also the 6th home run of the night for the Cyclones, which set a new franchise record.
Mauricio is catching fire and he has been a big factor in the team's recent hot stretch. It is his sixth time in the last ten games getting at least two hits.
On the pitching side of things, Jaison Vilera had another rough outing, allowing 5 earned runs and 7 hits in 4.2 IP. It brings his season ERA up to 8.36. Relievers Hunter Parsons, Conner O'Neil, and Brian Metoyer combined for 4.1 innings of shutout ball, surrendering a combined 1 hit and 1 walk and notching 8 strikeouts.
The Cyclones will look to carry this success over into the remaining 5 games in the series before they return home to host the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Matt Eddy of BA pointed out that the main reason Alvarez was promoted here was to work on framing with real umpires rather than the robot version at lower A
I was at the double header sweep and no hitter loss the Cyclones suffered right before they got hot...maybe that was the low point that got them going. Pitching has been great since then as well.
