Maybe Babies:
Tobi Stoner – SP – AAA – tough outing on June 24… 2.2 IP, 4-ER, 7.27… Stoner has had difficulty going up in levels, but he always straightens out his game. He takes a very intelligent approach to the game and utilizes his talent well, without fanfair. I still think his future as a Met is in the pen or he will be part of a package deal someday.
Eddie Kunz – RP – AAA – pitched 2.0 scoreless innings on June 22 and lowered his ERA to 2.56… June 25: another scoreless inning… Kunz has appeared in 19 games this year and is no longer involved in the closing process. It seems like everybody on this team has had a flight to Queens, and he keeps pitching well (2.48) waiting for another chance to prove he was moved too fast last year.
Josh Thole – C – AA – June 23 vs. Bowie: 2-4, 1-triple, 1-RBI… June 24: 1-4, 1-RBI… June 25: 2-4… Josh had a slow week batting only .324… he he… the Mets constantly work on his catching skills, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with this 13th round pick in 2005. Remember, he still has played more games at first base for the Mets, instead of catching.
Ike Davis – 1B – AA – was promoted from St. Lucie to AA-Binghamton on June 22… June 23: 2-2 in first AA game, plus 2 walks… June 24: 2-4, 2-RBI, walk-off double… I have a funny feeling Ike may be graduating real soon from the “maybe baby” list. I never liked this pick but I’m praying every night I was wrong.
Jimmy Johnson – RP – A+ - pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless ball on June 22, in the 2nd game of a doubleheader… lowered ERA to 3.68… on June 23, gave up one earned run in 1.1IP and jumped to 4.15… 6/25… gave up 4 ER in 3.1 IP… 6.00… not a good week for Johnson.
Reese Havens – SS – A+ - came off the DL on June 22 and went 0-3 in the first game of a doubleheader… 1-4, 2-K on June 23… June 24: 1-3 in game one… 6/25: 0-4… has batted only .212 in his last ten games, which date back to May 23.
Robert Carson – SP – A – Carson (.263 in 13 starts) has settled down pretty good in May after a rocky start this year, but has returned to rock side of the road in June… 9-ER in last four starts (21.0)… has not pitched past the sixth inning
