Mets Bats, Kris Benson, Facebook Clones, Maine... and Cora

Mets Bats:

Have you noticed that the Mets’ bats have quieted down this past week? The answer is simply… this is the time of the ST year where better pitchers pitch more innngs in spring training games… and the Mets bats are only so strong against quality pitchers… not saying they aren’t good enough to win 90 games, but this is also when your own pitching is supposed to get better… Mack

Kris Benson:

The Diamondbacks have signed RHP Kris Benson to a minor league contract, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Benson, 35, has made only eight major league appearances since 2006. He posted an 8.46 ERA and 2.01 WHIP in just 22 1/3 innings with the Rangers last season and probably can't much help Arizona. Instead, he will likely wait in the minors for an injury. - link

Facebook Clones:

Don't forget...Facebook fans can get $7 Box Seats (while they last) to the 7/1 game by entering the code FACEBOOK7K on this page: http://tinyurl.com/c4x89z

Maine:

Maine is in a rather similar situation to Oliver Perez, although it's a bit more precarious considering that Maine has not only battled inconsistency, he's battled injuries for two years now, and he lacks the security of tenure and a guaranteed contract. On the upside, he's not viewed as quite the albatross that Perez is, because most people seem to point to the fact that he's been injured so often. But, then, that's what makes him so key. Like Perez, the Mets are basically handing him a starting spot without any real backup plan. And not only has he been injured, but when he's healthy, he's only been somewhat effective over the past 2 years. There are flashes of brilliance, but more often than not… link

Cora:

You know what struck me about Saturday's game?... No, it's that the newly created shortstop battle between Alex Cora and Ruben Tejada has a sponsor. Seriously. "This battle for shortstop is sponsored by the new movie The Bounty Hunter" is what was read during the television broadcast with the accompanying graphic. Leave it to the Mets to turn a season changing injury into a profit. It's strangely admirable. - link
