4-6: Ex-Mets:- Neal Musser, Shawn Bowman, Pedro, Darryl on Bay... and Miquel Pinago

Neal Musser:

This was Musser’s second time around with the Mets, though he really didn’t stand much of a chance this time.

Musser was a 2nd round draft picik by the Mets way back in 1999... and went to Kansas City after a miserable 2005 season (6-11, 5.02) in Norfolk.

He did fianlly make the bigs in 2007, but posted 0-1, 4.38 in 17 appearances. He pitched one more for the Royals in 2008, and that was it.

I was excited when he was originally drafted and I smiled when the Mets brought him back last month, but like many others, his time had past.

Shawn Bowman:

Bowman had to be removed from the 40-man to make room for five new players going on. This was simply bad mathematics for Bowman, who the Mets will try and trade him somewhere for something. I hate to see him go. Bowman should have owned third base long before anyone heard of David Wright, but two major back injuries put him on the shelf for three years. That simply is too long for one prospect to remain on the front burner of any organization. Sadly, for Shawn’s sake, he passed throughthe Rule V draft, probably because the rest of the league didn’t want to roll the dice on someone with two major back surgeries. There never was a plan for him to play anywhere other than third base, so he simly had no chance to win a utility spot in Queens. Shawn was easily the minor league veteran in the system and this would have been his 8th season in the organization. God speed, Shawn. Come back and kick our ass anytime.

Pedro:

Pedro Martinez plans to begin a throwing program this week with the intention of signing a free agent deal around the middle of the season. "I’m in good shape, real good – it doesn’t take me that long to get ready,’’ Martinez told the Boston media after throwing out the first pitch at Sunday's Red Sox season opener. He's been linked to the Phillies and could sign a contract similar to last year's prorated $2 million deal. - rotoworld

Darryl on Bay:

Strawberry, who was an instructor for the Mets during spring training, was enthusiastic about the new faces on the team this year, especially slugging outfielder Jason Bay. "I think Jason's a low key person," Strawberry said. "He's going to do real well here." The Mets' career leader in home runs and RBIs, Strawberry thinks the presence of several teammates from the World Series clubs he was on, including Class A Brooklyn manager Wally Backman, will help the current players "learn about winning in New York." - espn

Miquel Pinago:

The Yuma Scorpions have signed an agreement with the Venezuelan Baseball Federation, which has allowed them to begin signing new players. One is ex-Met P Miguel Pinago.
