4/6/10

4-6 v2.0 DRAFT: - Drew Smyly, Mark Canha, Michael Kvasnicka, Mike Foltynewicz... and C.J. Cron

Drew Smyly:

4-5 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/05/sec-players-of-the-week-8  - PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Drew Smyly• Arkansas Sophomore • LHP • Little Rock, Ark. - • Quieted a Kentucky offense that had scored 12 runs the day before…held the Wildcats to one run on four hits in seven innings. • Seven-inning performance matches his longest outing of the season…five strikeouts pushes his season total to 41…lowered his ERA to an SEC-best 1.60.

Mark Canha:

Cal, 1B - 4-4 from: http://www.baseballrumormill.com/2010/04/mlb-draft-notes-dixon-anderson-and-other-updated-scouting-report/#more  - Probably a high Day 2 draft, a polished college hitter who doesn't profile well at first base or in left field. He doesn't have great bat speed and sets his hands up high and back by his rear shoulder, giving him a long path to the ball and limiting his time to make adjustments. He has shown some patience and pitch recognition and has some track record of performance.

Michael Kvasnicka:

4-5 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/05/big-ten-players-of-the-week-8  - PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - Michael Kvasnicka, Minnesota - Jr., OF, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North - Kvasnicka takes home his first career weekly honor after leading Minnesota to a series win on the road against Purdue. The outfielder hit .583 against the Boilermakers, reaching base at a .643 clip and slugging 1.000 for an OPS of 1.643. Kvasnicka scored three runs in the series and drove in seven, recording two doubles. The junior had multiple hits in all three games of the set, including a 3-for-4 performance on Friday. In the series finale on Sunday, he hit the go-ahead double with his team trailing 5-4 in the ninth, driving in two runs to put the Gophers up for good. Kvasnicka ranks among the Big Ten’s leaders with a .613 slugging percentage on the year and is second in the conference with 11 doubles.

Mike Foltynewicz:

4-5 from: - perfect game  - RHP Mike Foltynewicz we moved into early round position (#20) after seeing him during the off season. Oddly enough it was at the same exact event that Odorizzi made a giant leap while in high school. It’s really great when you see a talented kid, you’ve been following for a long time, step it up the way he has. They went from being a very good draft prospect to becoming one of the best.

C.J. Cron:

4-6-10 from: - http://collegebaseball360.com/2010/04/06/utahs-cron-gets-usa-team-trials-invite  - Utah sophomore baseball player C.J. Cron has received an invitation to the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Trials, head coach Bill Kinneberg announced today. “This is a great opportunity for C.J. to put his skills against the best players in country,” Kinneberg said. “If he makes the team, what an experience that will be for him.” Cron, who plays at both first base and catcher, currently leads the Mountain West Conference with a .429 batting average and is second in the conference with a .725 slugging percentage. He is tied for the MWC lead with seven home runs, ranking third with 32 RBI
