5 4 4-7: - Chemistry, Jenrry Mejia, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Brandon Moore... and Jose Update

Chemistry:

"Chemistry is not the major measuring stick for success," theorized (Jason) Bay, "but it can help you through rough patches in the season. For me, I think it helped me because to tell you the truth, I was more nervous during my first spring-training appearance than I was today. I already feel like I have been playing with these guys a long time because we are all very comfortable with each other." - adam rubin

Jennry Mejia:

4-4 from: - http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/notes/mets-today/final-cuts-analysis/408146524594 -  (made the team) – No question he has “electric stuff”. Doubtful he’s ready for prime time; see Bobby Parnell this time last year. A combination PR / desperation move to “prove” the Mets have top prospects and a bone thrown to Jerry Manuel so he can’t blame the front office for not allowing him to have top talent on the MLB roster. The latest news is that Mejia won’t be in the setup role; so what’s the point? You’re going to waste a kid’s development in the minors so he can pitch garbage innings? Again, see Parnell — imagine how far along Parnell might be right now if he pitched 150-160 innings in AAA last year, developing his command and secondary stuff?

Kirk Nieuwenhuis:

OF: The Mets' 2008 third-round pick excelled in '09, leading the Florida State League in doubles, total bases and OPS, and also stole 16 bases. Nieuwenhuis, who was a Florida State League All-Star, ended the year by hitting .406 in an eight-game cameo with Binghamton. - minorleaguebaseball.

Brandon Moore:

Crawfordsville 2004 graduate Brandon Moore is making his way up the minor league baseball ladder. After spending the last two seasons with the Class A short season Brooklyn Cyclones, Moore confirmed Monday night this season he will pitch for the Class A long season Savannah Sand Gnats. Moore, who was drafted in the 14th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets, had been in the Mets’ Spring Training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., leaves for Savannah today.- journalreview

Jose Update:

Jose Reyes' rehab continued in Florida last night, as the Mets shortstop played all nine innings in the field in an extended spring-training game against St. Lucie. He went 2-for-5 with two singles, two walks and a run in seven plate appearances. Coming back from a thyroid condition, he is eligible to come off the 15-day DL on Saturday, but GM Omar Minaya said, "We have to see how he does." - nyp
