Brooklyn 5, Connecticut 2

from press release:

The Brooklyn Cyclones (35-16) beat the Connecticut Tigers (27-24) on a sunny afternoon in Coney Island by the score of 5-2. Brooklyn's offense five runs on nine hits, while starting pitcher Yohan Almonte was dominant through eight innings.

SS Justin Schafer led the Cyclones with three hits and two RBI. LF Will Cherry went 2-for-4 with two runs, and 2B J.B Brown, RF Cory Vaughn, DH Joe Bonfe, and LF Cody Holliday checked in with one hit apiece.

Almonte (6-3), recently named to the NYPL All-Star team, quelled the Tigers over eight strong innings, allowing a run on seven hits while striking out nine batters. Almonte earned his sixth win of the season and has now allowed only one run over his past 22.0 innings. Southpaw Adam Kolarek relieved Almonte in the ninth inning and allowed an unearned run on a hit, a walk, and a throwing error before closer Ryan Fraser was brought in to get the last out of the ninth inning and earned his team-high eighth save.

The Cyclones head out for a long road trip before the New York-Penn League All-Star break begins on August 16th. Brooklyn will have eight All-Star representatives as well as the entire Cyclones coaching staff.
