Cutnpaste: - The Jerry Bandwagon, Strawberry's Grill, Delgado, Rylan Sandoval... and Jefry Marte

The Jerry Bandwagon:

link  - If the Mets have any chance of changing the culture in the clubhouse, they need a new message from above, starting with the manager: Bobby Valentine is exactly whom the Mets need, but as we’ve speculated before, the Wilpons don’t have the stomach (or, likely, the cash) to hire him. Wally Backman very well could get the job, as he’s proving (again) that he’s able to get the most out of young players. Backman’s Class A Brooklyn Cyclones have the best record in the New York-Penn League.

Strawberry’s Grill:

link  - Wednesday night marked the opening of Darryl Strawberry's Sports Grill in Douglaston, a short cry from the stadium where he built his legend. Situated next to the LIRR stop in Douglaston, the establishment is easily accessible via public transportation and both the Long Island Expressway and Grand Central Parkway. Partnered with Eytan Sugarman who owns Southern Hospitality BBQ with Justin Timberlake, the two have created an enclave in Queens where families and baseball fans can enjoy great food and New York baseball memorabilia. Omnipresent when you enter are Strawberry's locker from Shea Stadium and two adjacent stadium seats from the former Mets home.

Carlos Delgado:

link  - Boston has been giving catcher Victor Martinez occasional starts at first, but recently signed former Blue Jay, Marlin, and Met first baseman Carlos Delgado to a minor league deal with hopes he can help the team soon. The underrated-in-his-prime Delgado was unsigned in the off-season and spent the first part of the season rehabbing from off-season hip surgery. He doesn’t have a ZiPS RoS projection given that he hasn’t played in the majors yet this season. Given his layoff and rehab issues, I think it’s fair to use his CHONE pre-season projection of .337 wOBA true talent (ZiPS projected .364 prior to the season), which, his poor defense at first base aside, would make him about as valuable offensively as Lowell over the rest of the season assuming he could start right away — about a win or more worse than Youkilis.

Rylan Sandoval:

8-7 from: - link  - Sandoval ranks third in the league in home runs (9), hits (58), and total bases (97). He ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.551), and runs scored (34), fifth in extra-base hits (21), and seventh with a .330 average (58-for-176). Sandoval -- a 22-year-old native of Castroville, CA -- was signed as a non-drafted free agent in February of 2010, after working out for Wally Backman at a showcase in Yuma, Arizona.

Jefry Marte:

link  - Jefry Marte, 3B, Grade C+: .264/.333/.401 for Low-A Savannah. Not awful, not great, just 19 years old. Currently out with a bad hamstring.
