Cutnpaste: - Lucas Duda, Firing of Jerry, Joe Bonfe, Eric Niesen... and David Cone

Lucas Duda:

link  - Duda is hitting .373 with 6 HR and 30 RBI with RISP at Buffalo. Compare that to Martinez, who just batted .210 with 4 HR and 25 with RISP. The Mets clearly need someone to “clutch up” after they were just 7-for-29 with RISP during the Phillies series and 4-for-27 against the Braves. Defensively, Duda gives you more versatility off the bench as he can play a corner outfield spot and first base. However, Duda doesn’t have much experience in the outfield being a natural first baseman.

Firing of Jerry:

link  - Departing Manager: Jerry Manuel - Arriving Candidates: Joe Torre (LAD) , Tony Pena (NYY), Don Mattingly (LAD), Bobby Valentine - Reason: Jerry Manuel managed well enough to remain with the Mets to see the opening of Citi Field. Yet he has labored through his first two full seasons as Met manager, he struggled in 2009 in part because of injuries to Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, and Johan Santana and the struggles of David Wright didn't help either. Yet, look at Terry Francona, he has fielded a winning product this season despite not having his best players. It's not a great comparison but yet Manuel had a second shot, returning in 2010. 2010 hasn't quite worked out either, after a pretty good two and a half months or so into the season, the Mets have taken a nose dive in the standings and have paved the way for Jerry Manuel's exit. He could also be taking general manager Omar Minaya with him.

Joe Bonfe:

8-7 from: - link  - Bonfe ranks third in the NYPL with a .337 batting average (55-for-163). In 45 games, he has scored 22 runs, hit 10 doubles, two home runs, and has 19 RBI. Bonfe has also stolen seven bases. Joe -- a 22-year-old native of Woodbury, MN -- was the Mets 21st round pick in 2009, out of Sierre College (CA).

Eric Niesen:

link  - Eric Niesen, LHP, Grade C+: 4.83 ERA, 45/49 K/BB in 60 innings in Double-A, 57 hits. Another live arm undone by command problems.

David Cone:

link  - Date: August 27th, 1992 - Deal: Traded by Mets to Blue Jays for Jeff Kent and Ryan Thompson - Stats After Acquisition: -- Cone: 7 Starts, 4-3, 2.55 ERA, 8.0 K/9… Kent: .239 BA, 3 HR, 15 RBI… Thompson: .222 BA, 3 HR, 10 RBI (ML Debut) - The definition of a rental player, Cone spent under three months with the Blue Jays, and was on to his next stop in Kansas City as a free agent the following season, but he more than made his mark on the Blue Jays. On a pitching staff that already featured Jack Morris, Jimmy Key, Juan Guzman, and Todd Stottlemyre, Cone made what was already the best rotation in baseball even better as he logged 22.1 innings over four postseason starts, doing his part to help bring a championship to the Jays.
