As always great post this morning. Look I know its only spring training and y/days game was all the kids but dam 9-1 to the friggin Marlins.... really. Anyway, as all us Met fanatics get our first "fix" of baseball after 5 looong months I promise to remain optimistic. As SS seems to be our most pressing need by far I would play Flores a lot in Spring then send him to Vegas to play only SS and give Tejada the SS position and lets see if there's any improvement from last year's disaster and leave the door open for Drew in June. If Reuben totally craps out and Drew is gone only then would I go the trade route. If you were the GM what would u give up for Owings or Franklin and what is your current view of both players? Also if both Duda and Davis have good springs who gets traded? Thanks and lets go Mets. Gary Seagren Mack - Hey Gary, welcome back! My Monday Morning Report already ran a liitle long, so let's discuss your question as a different post. Gary, shortstop is really in the crapper right now. Ruben Tejada pulled himself out of game three, even knowing how critical it is that he doesn't hit a speed bump here. So far everyone who has played either SS or 2B is hitting, like, below .100 and, frankly, it's time to start getting guys like David Wright and Daniel Murphy back in this lineup. It's getting embarrassing reporting these early pre-season games. None of the 'usual subjects' jump out of me, but, if I can't have Stephen Drew (would you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeese sign him for two ears!!!!!), than I'd want Owings. Right now, Jacob deGrom stright up could pull it off. Regarding Davis and Duda, Ike looks HORRIBLE and all the old habits are back. Moreover, he will get no sympathy this time from either the clubhouse or the beat reporters. He will be a man on an island just like Oliver Perez was before they cleaned out his locker. I think you're going to see a decision made here sooner than later and you'll see Davis moved to a team like Pittsburgh for a very low-end A-ball prospect. That's where his game projects right now. But, as I said before, this is not Kiev and Boras isn't Putin. The Mets can still get the Drew deal done if they want to. It's not like we could use a little more offense in the lineup right now... |

I saw a DePodesta interview where he touts the farm system (rightly) and seems to infer that there will be a surplus to start trading off, and the surplus will allow them to be aggressive. That could be the alternative to Drew - trade for somebody good for SS. Mack, I do not wish to be contradictory, but one 2B/SS that is doing well at the plate is MUNO - counting that 1st intrasquad game, he has been on base most of the time. (No, I am not Muno's agent nor his cousin - just sayin')
Thomas, Muno isn't ready and, if he someday could become a major league asset, he nneeds another year in the minors at Vegas.

I share your same sentiment towards Muno. I think he could be a very strong bench piece at the bare minimum. At the same time....Mack is right. Muno's stick is not ready for the bigs right now.
His eyes certainly are....but his bat is not. Plus this team will not be carrying more than 1 Middle Inf on the bench since EYJ is the back up 2B
your middle infielder coming off the bench is already on this team...

Agree on Muno. I am sure he wished he had 50 more games under his belt (that suspension had to hurt). Ruben as a 2014 back up works for me. If he falters down the road as a back up, pull another guy in there in his place.
