Saturday afternoon the Diamondback’s jumped out to a 3
nothing lead and it held up, the Mets fall to the Dbacks in Flushing 3-2. Zach Wheeler started and after a rough start
settled in quite nicely. Wheeler allowed RBI singles by Martin Prado and Cody
Ross to make it 2 nothing after two. In the 3rd a Wilmer Flores error allowed Paul Goldschmidt
to reach and again Prado provided the
RBI hit to drive him in to make it 3-0.
Josh Collmenter was the starter and winner for Arizona, The Mets made it
3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd on a long RBI ground rule double to
center by Curtis Granderson. In the 5th David Wright, who had 3 hits
on the day, lined a solo homer (3) off Collmenter to make it 3-2…but that is as
close as the Mets could get despite getting their chances. The Mets had runners
on first and 2nd and one out in the bottom of the 7th and
8th and failed to cash in both times. Wheeler went 6 2/3 allowing 6
hits 3 runs (2 earned) he walked only 1 and stuck out 7…he get the loss falling
to 1-5. Collmenter picks up the win he’s
now 3-2. Addison Reed pitched the 9th
to notch his 13th save. Wright and Granderson continue to surge. With
his 3 hits Wright is now batting .307 and Granderson added 2 hits and is now
batting .222. The Mets are now 21-26 and 10-15 at home. Sunday the Mets look to
win a double dip and take the series. In game one Rafael Montero (0-2 6.97) faces Bronson Arroyo (4-3 4.45), in game 2 Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-0 2.14) faces Zeke Spruill (0-0 0.00) goes for
the Dbacks.
