Wednesday night at Citi Field Jonathon Niese pitched 6
strong innings and Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud hit their first homers on the
year the Mets cap a 3 game sweep of the Phillies with a 6-1 win. For the second night in a row the Phils
jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI ground out by
Chase Utley, but after that, it was all orange and blue. Juan Lagares came through with an RBI single
to tie the game in the bottom of the 2nd. d’Arnaud homered (1) down
the left field line to make it 2-1 in the 3rd. In the 4th,
Niese got into the act with an RBI single to make it 3-1. In the 5th,
Lucas Duda hit a long bomb (1) to right center to make it 4-1 and Eric Campbell
hit into a force play that brought home Michael Cuddyer to make it 5-1. The
Mets capped their scoring in the 6th when Duda doubled home d’Arnaud
to make it 6-1. Niese went 6 1/3
allowing 9 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4. Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 ending the 6th,
Alex Torres pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th to end it. Offensively Curtis Granderson, d’Arnaud, Duda
and Lagares all had 2 hits apiece, Duda also had a pair of RBI. Granderson’s were both shift defying liners
to left field. Everyone in the Mets starting nine hit safely with the exception
of Ruben Tejada. Niese gets the win
improving to 1-0. Jerome Williams takes the loss falling to 0-1. The Mets are
now 6-3 on the year and 3-0 at home and have now won 4 straight. Thursday night the new-look Marlins come to town. Dillon Gee (0-1 9.00) goes for the Mets,
Jarred Cosart (0-1 1.50) goes for the Fish.
