New Met Guppies

The Mets were busy on Thursday signing potential additions to the opening day AAA-Syracuse 25-man roster.

C Dustin Houle

The 25-year old Houle was an 8th round pick in 2011 by the Brewers, out of the British Columbia.

He has played his entire professional career (6 seasons) for the Brewers organization, hitting .234 with only 7-HR in 1100-AB.

Last year, for three teams (A+, AA, AAA), he hit ,258 in 124-AB.

RHP Casey Coleman

Coleman is a 31-year old minor league journeyman that has played for two major league teams (Cubs, KC), five minor league systems (Cubs, KC, TB, Sea, Hou), and had a 6.91-ERA last year in 100G, 5-ST for the Cubs AAA-Iowa team.

So, why sign Coleman with these kind of numbers?

Well, maybe it was because he was tearing up the Mexican League this off-season with a stat line of: 36.1-IP, 37-K, only 5-BB, 22-saves, 1.24, 0.66

OF Rymer Liriano

The 27-year old Liriano was signed in 2007 as an international free agent ($300K bonus), by the Padres.

He has had 150 at-bats for two major league teams (San Diego, CWS) and hit .220.

His production in the minors, eight seasons, have had a stronger return: 3,319-AB, 96-HR, 452-RBI, .277/.349/.440/789.

RHCL Arquimedes Caminero

The 31-year old was an undrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic.

Stats have been impressive... 3.83 for three major league teams (Miami, Pitt, Seattle)... 20-7, 3.70, 389-K -n 216-IP for eight minor league seasons... and 2.42, 29-saves in 57-G for the 2017 Yomouri Giants of the Japan Central League and 5.79-ERA in 2018 before being shut down.

'Cammy' can sling it. He's been clocked as high as 99.

Interesting lot of "penny stocks"......if they go bust, you move on. But, if one of them "hits", then you add talent for
a very low cost.

I am a fan of this "back end of the roster turn over"........however, unlike his predecessor, BVW should also use other avenues
to improve the roster.

Still waiting for another lefty for the bullpen and a true CF'er, but there is some time before ST.

It's interesting that BVW felt Travis d'Arnaud could play various positions around the diamond but for around the same cost (and superior offense) Wilmer Flores could not.

Reese -

I'm not sure d'A will be a Met on opening day.

Lock him up at ARB salary and build it into multi-player trade

Archie Caminero looks interesting, the rest look like filler.

Flores could have made a lot of $$ if he could catch like (better than) TDA.
