We are
all still trying to make heads or tails out of baseball’s new coronavirus
edition of eligibility works in both high school and college baseball. Let’s
look at college today.
On
Monday, the NCAA voted to allow spring-sports students an additional year of
competition. This includes an extension of their period of eligibility due to a
loss of a year to the coronavirus crap.
The number
of players allowed on each team has also been increased. Currently, each
college is allowed 11.7 scholarships per team that can be distributed between
27 players, at a minimum of a 25% scholarship to all players.
The
real good news with the new rulings is that current college seniors will be
able to play another season if they chose. The set up of the next draft and how
many rounds it will be is still a work in progress, though I can’t see a clear
road for most of these seniors turning pro this year.
A lot
of draft eligible juniors will come back for another season. So will this
year’s seniors And what about high school seniors that want to play college
ball.

by the announcement. Minor leaguers who had come to the U.S. and have been sent
back home to the Dominican Republic (and other countries) are included in those
being paid.

So now we have Shin-Sin Choo and Daniel Murphy stepping up WHEN THE MAJOR LEAGUE BALLCLUBS DO NOTHING. It's truly shameful on MLB's part when they depend on the players to do what the league should be doing.
Not to defend owners, but no revenue and fixed costs could lead to owner failures.
Meanwhile, many very wealthy players who are unencumbered have no excuse not to help. Mike Trout can’t give $1 million? Max Scherzer? Etc.

Mack, not letting owners off the hook - if they aren't going to fail they need to shell out.
Listened to Stephen A. Bannon today - said he heard there are still flights between NY and Miami! He is advocating a hard lock down nationwide to bring this thing to its knees quickly, so our economy does not get permanently crushed. Half stepping this thing will only prolong it.
Road with the wife to our local liquor store to get grain alcohol. She is making hand sanitizer with it.
I stayed in car. She wore gloves and mask.

If the Dominican Republic gets the Coronavirus under control by the end of May, will they have a DSL this year?
I noticed that last year’s international signings by the Mets did not play in the DSL. At least most of them did not. They signed some more this spring. With another year possible of signings coming up this year how will they be able to handle some many players down there?

Most 16 year old signees do go directly to the instruct camp in the D.R. for a year. Very few debut as a 16 year old.
I expect many of last year's players cut as well as far less filler signing.

As you can see, in a normal year this is overkill.
This next draft, coupled with your list, will probably result in the top talent being assigned to both teams + the GCL team.

I have a question. Do you see baseball clubs signing a lot of free agents in this years draft for $20,000? If so do you think it will mostly be high school players who haven’t signed with a division 1 school?

My guess is the high school seniors will get another year of eligibility and will wait a year for the big bucks.
The same for college juniors.
There simply is too much being lost here to ignore it.
Watch for the MLB to fill up with college seniors and then discard them for a year.
I do not understand about your comment about high school seniors having any other year of Elibility. Don’t they graduate? Aren’t they going to college or junior college. Are you saying they can go to division 1 school and then get drafted as a freshman.
